WHERE THE SUCCESS STARTS?

WHERE THE SUCCESS STARTS?

In the London fitness club there is a sign on the wall which says, "The extra mile is between your ears." The way you think affects the results you have in your life. So if you change your thinking, if you change your consciousness, your life will change and your results will change.

One thing that unsuccessful people do is - they make excuses. So my question to you is: do you want to have excuses or results in your life?

You can become expert in making excuses. Maybe you are already an expert. What are your top ten excuses or top one excuse for why you are not the best you can be, or why you are not achieving better results?

"I do not have enough time."

Nice, that is a classic one.

"It is too hard."

"I am not good enough."

"My parents were very incompetent so the genes and environment is not conducive to my growth."

So many things you can say, but if you think deeply, you can see that all these are actually excuses.

What else do unsuccessful people do? They blame others.

How many of you are expert in blaming others?

Another one is justification. How many of you are expert in justifying your own imperfections?

So Bhagavad Gita is teaching us to stop making excuses, stop blaming others and take full responsibility for our lives.

It's story time!!! We restrict ourselves by our thoughts!

A little story. Once there was a chicken farmer who was also a very a very passionate mountain climber. One day he was climbing the mountain and he came across a nest with three large eggs and the eggs were beautiful, so he was thinking: shall I take one?

He had a henhouse and he was thinking that maybe I can put it there and the chicken can hatch it. But he knew it is illegal, it is unethical and it is not ecological. He was in doubt whether he should do it or not but still he did it. Put in the bag, climbed up to the top and when he came back down to the village he put it in his henhouse.

The chicken enthusiastically laid on it and after some time a creature came out and the chicken was very proud because it was different from other chicken. And this little creature looked at the other chicken and started living with them and identifying with these chicken, thinking that he is a chicken. It was doing what other chickens do, pecking around a courtyard, sometimes trying to fly a few metres like chickens do. They do not fly very much.

For many years this bird lived with the chicken, like a chicken, doing things like them. But one day this bird saw something in the sky and was so impressed, and asked the sister chicken, "What is this?  It is so wonderful. It is like poetry in motion."

And the chicken said, "This is an eagle, it is the king of the sky, the king of the birds. And we are not part of his life. We are just meant to do what we are doing here. He can fly so elegantly and so high."

But something was touched in him at that moment. Why? Because he was not a chicken. He was an eagle. So he looked and he was thinking, oh okay, and he continued living for years like a chicken, doing what chickens do. And this eagle - he lived and died as a chicken because it is all he thought he was. A sad story.

So you tell me, what do you find in this story? Is there any message that you are getting?

"He did not try to find out his real identity."

"We develop desire and consciousness according to the association we get."

"He based his life on the false belief that he is a chicken."

"You do not get what you expect and if you identify with a set of restrictions then you will not be able to surpass them."

So it's our choice. If we want to remain where we are, if we are happy with what we have, we can continue as we do. But if we want to soar we can do that to, by learning and applying the timeless success principles given in the Gita.

This book gives even deeper success principles than you can find in other books, because this book is spiritual. So if you use these principles, and get assistance on how to apply them from devotees, then you will highly increase the likelihood of your success.

The opportunity is available so please take it and be happy.

Even mountain Meru is sometimes movable but not Himalayas [BG.10.29]

TEXT 24:

purodhasam ca mukhyam mam

viddhi partha brihaspatim

senaninam aham skandah

sarasam asmi sagarah

TRANSLATION:

Of priests, O Arjuna, know Me to be the chief, Brihaspati. Of generals I am Kartikeya, and of bodies of water I am the ocean.

PURPORT:

Indra is the chief demigod of the heavenly planets and is known as the king of the heavens. The planet on which he reigns is called Indraloka. Brihaspati is Indra's priest, and since Indra is the chief of all kings, Brihaspati is the chief of all priests. And as Indra is the chief of all kings, similarly Skanda, or Kartikeya, the son of Parvati and Lord Siva, is the chief of all military commanders. And of all bodies of water, the ocean is the greatest. These representations of Krishna only give hints of His greatness.

TEXT 25:

maharshinam bhrigur aham

giram asmy ekam aksharam

yajnanam japa-yajno 'smi

sthavaranam himalayah

TRANSLATION:

Of the great sages I am Bhrigu; of vibrations I am the transcendental om. Of sacrifices I am the chanting of the holy names [japa], and of immovable things I am the Himalayas.

PURPORT:

Brahma, the first living creature within the universe, created several sons for the propagation of various kinds of species. Among these sons, Bhrigu is the most powerful sage. Of all the transcendental vibrations, the om (omkara) represents Krishna. Of all sacrifices, the chanting of Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare is the purest representation of Krishna. Sometimes animal sacrifices are recommended, but in the sacrifice of Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, there is no question of violence. It is the simplest and the purest. Whatever is sublime in the worlds is a representation of Krishna. Therefore the Himalayas, the greatest mountains in the world, also represent Him. The mountain named Meru was mentioned in a previous verse, but Meru is sometimes movable, whereas the Himalayas are never movable. Thus the Himalayas are greater than Meru.

KKSblog.com - Another Dimension

Another Dimension

Posted: 07 Aug 2011 04:01 PM PDT

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, 2004)

'Asta-kalika-lila' – more or less describes how Radha and Krishna meet at different times of the day, in different groves around Radha-Kunde. There are numbers of groves that are attained by the asta saktis. Each of these groves have their kunjas, and that is where they have their loving pastimes.

Some of these descriptions can get very intimate. Some of the books from the ācāryas really elaborate on these things and it gets too much. Then it starts to really look to much like….sex….biting! If one gets to the biting part, than it gets too much…………….. This gives another dimension to it all, and can be too much……for us at this stage.

Therefore, one must be a little bit reserved about this. It's not that you can't read anything about it! I met some devotees who stayed in the Vrindavan temple, when I was the temple president at that time. They got really into this and this one devotee said to the other devotee:

"Do you want to have these books?"

He was talking about Prabhupada's books.

"Well can I just take it?"

"Yes, just take it. I never read them anyway!"

Since he was now reading all these glossy kind of literatures. This is not the idea! When it comes to reading, I usually explain it like:

"Prabhupada's books – Srimad Bhagavatam, Bhagavad Gita, Nectar of Devotion and Caitanya Caritamtra….they are like rice, dahl, subji and chapatti. And the other things are like chutneys and extra preps. If you only live on chutneys and extra preps, than how long can you live only on that? That's the point."

The reasons why we are giving all these warnings is because people like to make things black and white. It's either 'ok' and then it's like 'lets go!!' or it's 'off'….and there is nothing in between! This is the problem!

The Human form of Life

Posted: 07 Aug 2011 01:32 PM PDT

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, Sweden, 2010)

Transcribed by Madhumati Devi Dasi

So in this age of Kali the human form of life is awarded to those who are not very qualified. In Satya-yuga, the human form of life is only awarded to those who are great souls and all others are in lower species. In Treta-yuga, the standard of human life goes down and even one who is not completely perfect and pure can still be a human being.

In Dvapara-yuga, that standard still goes down, like the ones who have no piety still get human form of life. In Kali-yuga, even if one who has no good qualities at all can still get a human form of life and with that the intelligence and capacity to take up spiritual life!

Cologne Ratha Yatra

Posted: 07 Aug 2011 05:09 AM PDT

From Switzerland, Guru Maharaja made his way to Cologne (Germany) to participate in a great Ratha Yatra Festival. Many devotees travelled far-and-wide to get there too, attracted by the incredible line up of special guests namely: HH Kadamba Kanana Maharaja, HH Sacinandana Maharaja, HH Bhakti Charu Maharaja and HH Radhanatha Maharaja.

The four hour parade transcended the inner-city and then stopped next to the famous Dom of Cologne, where a good crowd of people were present. Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate after the parade, as heavy rain set in. It lightened to a dizzle but stayed with us almost until the end of the program. However, it didn't dampen the spirit of the devotees who were eager to see the different bhajanas, dancers and speakers.

The Ratha Yatra concluded with an ecstatic final kirtana led by HH Radhanatha Maharaja. Enjoy the pictures!

A Summercamp in the swiss mountains

Posted: 07 Aug 2011 03:58 AM PDT

After being separated for one week from Guru-Maharaja, I joined him again in Switzerland, where he participated in a summer-camp, high up in the Flumser alps, a calm part of the earth, in a nice wood house. The programs were mainly led by Kadamba Kanana Maharaja and Deena Bandhu Prabhu, who gave inspiring seminars and classes. Deena Bandhu Prabhu, with his ecstatic narrations about Krsna and his pastimes in the holy Dhama, took the devotees directly to Vrindavana, whereas Maharaja inspired them with philosophical classes on the topic: "On the way to Krsna, we meet ourselves."

All in all it was a peaceful camp, that gave Maharaja a good possibility to relax a little for the upcoming Ratha Yatra in Cologne. Enjoy the pictures!

Diary of a Traveling Monk

Volume 11, Chapter 17

June 30, 2011

By Indradyumna Swami

"Your New Mayor Is Wonderful"

In the spring, Nandini dasi built up a full itinerary for our summer
festival tour along the Baltic Sea coast in Poland. All the town officials
were cooperative, even vying to have the festival at peak times during the
tourist season. In many cases Nandini simply e-mailed or telephoned the town
administrations. But for some of the larger places, she had to visit the
offices.

One morning, however, she awoke and realized she'd missed her appointment
with the mayor of a large town.

"I've never done such a thing before," she told me over the phone.

"What will you do?" I asked.

"I've been calling the mayor's office all day, but no one's picking up the
phone," she said. "I may have to drive up north and see what I can do."

Early the next morning she began driving the six hundred kilometers from
southern Poland to the Baltic, arriving late at night. The next morning she
was at the town hall when it opened. She ran up the stairs to the mayor's
office and went in.

"I had an appointment with the mayor three days ago," she told the
receptionist, panting for breath. "I completely forgot about it. I'm so
sorry. Can I see him now?"

"There are a lot of people with appointments," said the receptionist. "You
can wait and see if he becomes available."

"OK," said Nandini, "I'll wait."

The receptionist began looking through Nandini's file. "I see it's about
getting permission for the Festival of India," she said. "I wouldn't get
your hopes too high. This is a new mayor, and I can tell you he's not
friendly."

"What happened to the other mayor?" said Nandini.

"We had elections this year," said the receptionist, "and the previous mayor
lost, although he had served for twenty-six years."

"He was a good friend of our festival," said Nandini.

"Well, this one's a friend of nobody," said the receptionist. "I can't
believe he won the election. He doesn't even say hello when he walks into
the office in the morning. And he gives only five minutes of his time to
each visitor when he's supposed to give ten. He just asks what they want and
provides a quick reply, which is usually a no, hardly ever any discussion.
Good luck, lady."

There was a long line of people at the mayor's door. After an hour Nandini
became impatient, as she had also made arrangements to go to two other towns
on this trip. So while smiling and explaining her situation, she made her
way to the front of the line. Most people were sympathetic.

Soon the current visitor emerged from the mayor's office with a scowl on his
face. "He hardly listened to me," he mumbled.

Nandini hurriedly went into the mayor's office.

"Yes?" said the mayor, without looking up.

"Mr. Mayor," said Nandini, "we desperately need your help. We had planned to
do our Festival of India in your town in July, but we've heard nothing back
from your administration."

"We're not interested," said the mayor, while signing his name to a
document.

Nandini just stood there, not knowing what to say.

"Just what would our city stand to gain from your festival?" said the mayor,
still not looking up.

"Our festival is a cultural event," said Nandini. "People will get to learn
about India, in particular its ancient spiritual tradition."

The mayor finally looked up. "And how much money do you hope to make?" he
said.

"That is not our objective," said Nandini. "Of course, we sell food and
other things, but our main purpose is to enlighten people about the higher
values of life."

The mayor looked at her for a few moments, then put his pen down. "Sit
down," he said. "Tell me more about your event."

"Well," said Nandini, "there's an exhibit with photos and in-depth details
of Vedic marriage, the four social classes, astrology, cow protection, the
process of creation, the spiritual world, and much more.

"There are tents with ancient Sanskrit texts translated into Polish. There
are yoga demonstrations, explanations of reincarnation and karma,
face-painting, and a restaurant with vegetarian food. And we have a
five-hour stage show, including singing God's name in Sanskrit with musical
instruments. Also..."

"That's enough," interrupted the mayor. "Now tell me something about your
philosophy."

For more than an hour Nandini talked about Krsna consciousness and answered
the mayor's many questions. Suddenly he looked at his watch.

"Oh my!" he said. "It's almost lunch time. We'll have to continue our
discussion another day."

"Mr. Mayor," said Nandini, "before you go, may I ask if we have permission
for our festival?"

The mayor smiled gently and nodded. "Yes," he said, "of course you do."

"Thank you," said Nandini.

She paused for a moment then continued, "But there is a problem," she said.

"What's that?" said the mayor.

"Our event is quite large, Mr. Mayor," she said, "and there's only one place
in town big enough. It's a prestigious piece of land just off the boardwalk
near the beach. But the land is in five titles and not one of the owners is
eager to let us use it for our three-day event."

The mayor's face became serious. "Don't you worry about them," he said.
"Consider it done. You have that place for your festival."

"Uh... Mr. Mayor," said Nandini, "I know I'm asking a lot, but well, would
you consider becoming a patron member of our tour?"

"Yes, of course," said the mayor. "And what's more, the town hall will
promote it."

"Well, uh, there's one last thing, said Nandini. "I'd like to..."

"You don't have to ask," said the mayor. "I will definitely open the event.
Here's my card, and if there's anything more you can call me any time. "

Nandini stood up to leave. "Mr. Mayor," she said, "you have been very kind
to us."

"Yes," said the mayor, "because everyone else comes here to take something
from us. But you people have come to give, and to give something very
valuable."

As Nandini left the room the people who were still waiting looked at her. As
she walked by the desk, the receptionist leaned over. "Why were you in there
so long?" she whispered. "Was he scolding you?"

"No," said Nandini. "Your new mayor is wonderful. He's now an official
patron of our festival tour."

Everyone jumped as the receptionist's phone fell from her hand with a crash
onto the table.

Nandini smiled. "See you at the festival," she said.

Srila Prabhupada writes:

"Our only hope is to chant Hare Krishna and rectify the whole situation. I
think this is possible. It has been proved in Calcutta that the Naxalites
were very much against us holding our Hare Krishna festival, but still later
on they became sympathetic and did not cause any harm for us. If we follow
the same principles everywhere ... [governments] all over the world will
come forward sympathetically for advancing this movement."

Know what you do&why you do?

The basics of deity worship!
Our gross body is made of the five elements
earth, water, fire, air, ether. Our five senses are interacting with these
elements. Each of our senses correspond to one of the five
elements.Eyes-fire,nose-smell from earth,ears-hear sound through
ether,tongue-taste(water),touch-air.
The emotions of the soul are now through the mind.Mind is the chief of
all the senses&is also callled the sixth sense.Accepting&Rejecting are
the activities of mind. Since we are not in a position to Chant the
holy names constantly with pure heart all the time, deity worship
engages all our senses to keep our consciousness pure.During the
arati,
Nose-to smell the incense, garlands offered to the Lord,eyes-to see the
beautiful form and decoration of the Vigraha(arca
murti-avatara-incarnation of the Lord), ears to hear the auspicious
sound of bell, conch shell, sankirtan.(Srila Prabhupada recommended to
produce most of the sound of conch shell, bell, sankirtan in the old
buildings bought for ISKCON temples to drive away evil spirits
residing)
Limbs to dance for the pleasure of the Lord, camara to produce air for
the deities, sprinkling the sacred waters offered to the deities. The
ghee lamp offered to the deity represents our consciousness. When the
consciousness of fire burns high, the false ego of wick and our vasanas
of ghee are burnt out to ashes.
And the namaskaras before the Lord are of two types.
1.Sashtaanga(falling before the Lordships with the whole body touching
the ground)
2.Pancha-anga(falling with 5 parts of the body-2 elbows,2 joints of
legs,fore-head-for women)
Falling infront of the Lord signifies that we are dropping our false
ego with the idea that we are servants completely dependent on the
Lord-Master for everything.
Deity worship helps us to purify our consciousness and which in turn
helps to focus better on chanting the names of the Lord. Therefore
it's very important that we do everything with proper
knowledge.Otherwise it becomes ritualistic. And when it becomes
ritual,it's mere sentimental and it will not go for long.
We are not doing deity worship as a show but to reciprocate our Love
for the Lord. A woman when she really loves the husband will serve the
husband practically by cooking nice foodstuff and satisfying him.
Merely saying that she has so much Love for the husband will not help.
Many fools say that Love should be in the heart and that need not be
shown outside. Also some rascals invented something like "helping
hands are better than praying lips" To them, we have "Prayers can move
mountains". They cant save their own self with their hands what to
speak of other living entities?
There's no limit to the sky and foolishness of the people accepting
all these childish words.

I like to watch the videos of Prabhupada. If you don't have them yet, then
I would advise you to get them, because there is a whole lot of dimensions
there! You can read the 'Lila Amrita' of how Prabhupada was speaking to the
journalist. You can read the recorded transcriptions of the conversation
but you don't see how he is simply sitting there….so casual! That is how
you don't see what he does, and that is very important. If you don't see
that part then you don't get the full picture!

Real freedom comes in relationship to Krishna

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, Sweden, 2010)

Transcribed by Madhumati Devi Dasi

So, this desire to be free is there in every living entity. But there are
always some obstacles in our freedom. For the children, it is the parents
who are constantly blocking them from moving around. The parents constantly
grab them and stop them, and at one point when they grow to maturity, they
move away from their parents, and think:

"Freedom at last!"

But there is still no freedom. Like even if there is no one to tell us what
we should do or should not do. Even then we are so bound and limited in
that material energy, and we encounter the limitations of our mind;
limitations of the senses; limitations of the intelligence; limitations
after limitations and that we are always driven. The Vedic scriptures say
that there are six waves that are just dragging us along hunger, thirst,
lamentation, old age, infirmity and death. So these six waves are over
powering forces and we cannot do anything and we simply have to respond and
thus life goes on.

Eight million four hundred species of life, and all are hungry in the
morning….. starving but Krishna makes arrangements for their sustenance. So
here it is explained that real freedom comes in relationship to Krishna,
because as we turn away from Krishna, we become minimised in our power and
currently we are very much minimised in our power!

Simplicity is Vaisnavism

From: Jyoti Pahuja
Although many persons may come to hear Srimad Bhagavatam, who is
actually hearing? To whose ears do these words penetrate and go deep
into the heart? There are many that are posing to be hearing, but
actually they are not hearing. The words are entering into one ear and
going out the other. It never penetrates to the heart because they
have no faith. They are crooked persons. They are not simple. This is
the only reason. They have no faith in the revealed scripture. They
are doubtful persons, so how can they get the result?

There was a village where Bhagavat-parayana was going on, recitation
of Srimad Bhagavatam for seven days, saptaha. Many people from
neighboring villages came to hear the recitation from seven o'clock to
nine o'clock each evening. There were two women who were regularly
coming. One was an old woman about seventy years old with gray hair.
The other was a young girl sixteen years old. She was the
daughter-in-law of the elderly woman.

One day in his lecture the speaker sang in Oriya, ananda bolo hari
hari, hari karibe upaya — "Chant the name of Lord Hari with pleasure!
Hari! Hari! Hari! Hari! That Lord Hari will enable you to cross over
the dreadful ocean of material existence." Both the mother-in-law and
daughter-in-law heard the speaker, but from that very moment the
daughter-in-law started chanting, "Hari! Hari! Hari! Hari!" She put
complete faith in those words. Although both of them heard, the
mother-in-law did not sing the song. Why is it that the
daughter-in-law was able to put full faith in the words of Srimad
Bhagavatam and start chanting, "Hari! Hari! Hari! Hari!" from that
very moment while the old experienced mother-in-law could not do so?
Because the old lady was not simple, she was crooked. She had no faith
in what she heard. This is a question of samasyatma, doubt. She was a
doubtful person. The young girl was very simple. She was not crooked,
so immediately she put faith in what she heard and started chanting,
"Hari! Hari! Hari! Hari!"

When the recitation finished, the ladies had to return to their home.
On the way there was a tidal river that they had to cross. When they
had first come the water was knee-deep, but when they were returning
it was neck-deep. The daughter-in-law was walking ahead and the
mother-in-law was following her. Chanting, "Hari! Hari! Hari! Hari!"
while she was walking, the daughter-in-law easily crossed over the
river and stood on the other bank. Meanwhile, the mother-in-law was
drowning in the middle of the river. She shouted, "Oh! Oh!
Daughter-in-law! You are there on the other bank! I am drowning here
in the river!"

The young girl replied, "You should chant, 'Hari! Hari! Hari! Hari!'"

The mother-in-law replied, "You rascal! Are you my master? Are you
teaching me? I am your master! You are my daughter-in-law, I am the
mother-in-law!"

The young girl said, "Didn't you hear? That speaker said, ananda bolo
hari hari, hari karibe upaya — 'Chant the name of Hari with pleasure.
That Hari will enable you to cross over the dreadful ocean of material
existence.' So what is this tiny river? Why will Lord Hari not be able
to help you cross this small river?"

The mother-in-law got angry. This is a practical consideration of
faith and simplicity. The young woman was simple, so immediately she
was able to put faith in the speaker's words and by chanting she
easily crossed the river. The old woman was faithless and doubtful.
Although she was experienced and old, she was a crooked person. There
was no simplicity in her heart. This is the point. The only thing
required is to be simple. Give up all of your crookedness and put full
faith in Krishna. Put full faith in His words, put full faith in the
revealed scriptures, and put full faith in the words of acaryas,
sadhus, and mahajanas. Then you will achieve success. This is most
important. You should be as simple as a child. By nature a child is
very simple. But when he grows up he becomes crooked. Why? Because of
association with crooked persons.

Some people will say, "Oh, if we become so simple then we will be
cheated. Therefore we will not be simple, we will be crooked". But
Krishna says, nayam loko 'sti na paro na sukham samsayatmanah – "If
you have no faith then you cannot get any happiness, either in this
life or the next." [Bg. 4.40] Why should you be crooked? Will it bring
you happiness? Will it keep you from being cheated? You are being
cheated, and you are not getting happiness, why? Why not be simple and
put faith in Krishna's words and achieve success in life? Sri
Chaitanya Mahaprabhu likes those who have simplicity. They are natural
vaisnavas. Simplicity is vaisnavism.

Lord Chaitanya's reward for selfless service

From: Jyoti Pahuja

Vedic culture in Russia- part six

Lord Chaitanya's reward for selfless service

Absorption during book distribution can make a devotee fearless.
Ananga Mohan Prabhu, being absorbed in this seva landed up at the
underworld den in Moscow. A neighbour warned him and his partner to
not enter the building.

Undaunted, the duo entered the premises and rang the bell. A mean
looking man opened the door and asked them their names. Ananga Mohan
Prabhu mentioned his legal name which in Russsian meant 'shark'. No
sooner had he mentioned his name fifteen men pulled out their guns and
pointed at Ananga Mohan Prabhu. 'Shark' was the rival gang leader with
whom these thugs had serious fights. Even the police feared these two
prominent gangs.

Ananga Mohan Prabhu was fearless, and he told the men pointing guns
at him about the kali yuga emergency, and the desperate need to take
shelter of Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu who has come to deliver all the
fallen souls of this age by awarding them the priceless gift of
congregational chanting of Krishna's Holy Names. Meanwhile Ananga
Mohan Prabhu's partner was nervous and kept pulling him back, to leave
the place immediately. However Anaga Mohan Prabhu was focussed in his
preaching, and believe it or not, after his twenty minute emphatic
presentation of the Krishna consciousness philosophy, he distributed
fifteen copies of 'Teachings of Lord Chaitanya' to these ill famed
gangsters. Later as they came out of the building,

Ananga Mohan Prabhu's partner was still shivering from the scary
experience of seeing over a dozen guns pointed at them. He asked
Ananga Mohan Prabhu if he wasn't frightened on seeing the guns. Ananga
Mohan Prabhu was surprised that these men had guns, for he was
oblivious to it and thought they were high on liquor but never noticed
the guns. This was the extent of his absorption in his service.

Last August, after having distributed Srila Prabhupada books in Russia
daily (even during the minus 40 degrees winter), for over twenty five
years, Ananga Mohan Prabhu shocked the temple president with a news,
"Prabhu, last night Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu appeared in my dream and
told me that He is very pleased with me. He also mentioned to me that
I should come back to Him for he has some other important services for
me elsewhere."

The devotees were wonderstruck and asked him to describe further. He
revealed how the Lord has a beautiful golden complexion and is dressed
in dazzling yellow garments and is performing sankirtana. As the
devotees were happily transported to the spiritual world by his
descriptions, he shocked them by repeating the Lord's instructions, "I
think Prabhus I've to leave. The Lord is calling me back. Please
prepare my papers." (In Russia you need special government papers to
perform your final rites in a Vedic way). As the temple president and
other devotees dissuaded him, Ananga Mohan Prabhu was emotional, "I am
sure this was no ordinary dream. It was a divine vision.

The Lord wants me for another service. I know I am sinful and
completely unqualified to receive these instructions, but it is true."

A few days later as Shri Gaura Hari Prabhu and other devotees prepared
the papers they got the news about a car accident where Ananga Mohan
Prabhu left his body on the spot, seated next to the driver. On
reaching the accident site, the devotees discovered there were no
injuries or marks on his body; just smilingly, his hand on the bead
bag he was gone. Devotees knew Lord Chaitanya had called him for
another service- a reward for his tireless two decades of dedicated
and selfless service.

"Just distribute my books throughout your life, and even if you don't
think of Krishna at the time of death, then Lord Caitanya will force
His way into your mind and carry you back to Godhead."

Women and Culture!

Traditionally,Women used to wear ornaments, use cosmetics to appear
pleasing to their husbands. And we find instances in Krishna book, where
mother Rohini when taking shelter in Gokula at Nanda Maharaj's place,
didnt decorate herself so well. Thats the practice.Srila Prabhupada
once said,"When the husband is not there, who are you trying to
attract?"
But today it has become fashionable for women to attract the whole
public where all kinds of degraded, unscrupulous men are ready to
exploit women.
It's not good for women themselves and for the whole society as
well. When women are chaste, they are very powerful and even more
attractive and affectionate to their husbands.
Even today we find in the arab countries that women are to maintain
their dignity by covering themselves with furdah. Its good for the
society at large.

I request you to add any further points you find suitable in this regard.

CONNECTING WITH YOUR DHARMA

The word dharma means duty. It means truth. It means occupation.

For us it is important to find something that we are excited about. Something that we want to do for Krsna with love. Something we can put our heart into.

When we join Krsna consciousness, we are taught to do the needful. Srila Prabhupada gave us this principle and it's a very useful principle. But we see that devotees who have lasted in Krsna consciousness - not only survived but thrived - that they specialize in something. They find something they are excited about and they become better and better at it.

So it is important we find something we like to do and become an expert in it. And that we can give a nice contribution. We are creative beings. We want to express ourselves and we can use our talents in Krsna's service.

KKSblog.com - To Chant Very Concentrated Rounds

To Chant Very Concentrated Rounds

Posted: 04 Aug 2011 12:24 PM PDT

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, 2004)

It is so hard to be focusd. We have such little ability to focus. The mind is so uncontrolled and so strong – its everywhere and anywhere. It's very difficult. But we are going through emotions, kind of. If you record yourself….. I don't know if you have ever recorded yourself chanting, but I've recorded myself chanting:

"Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare, Hare, Hare".

There were extra few 'Hare Hare'. I don't know how it happened….obviously the mind was somewhere else for a moment, where there were an extra 'Hare Hare…..Ram Ram Hare Hare' – there are all the other varieties: We don't pronounce properly; miss syllables; we add syllables; we skip beads; chant a round and finish in 3 minutes – that was quick! That means probably the beads and the mantra not being synchronised. It happens, which is a bit of a problem when we are not fully attentive, than the beads will be at one speed and the mantras will be at another speed…..and that's one of the problems in chanting.

We have to really try to make it a habit to change exactly on the point where the one mantra ends and the other mantra begins, because the tendency can develop after a while to already change a little before. A round can even change….it can happen, if we have to change exactly on the proper points. So the similar amount of energy should also go to the bead also – to properly move around the beads. Otherwise we develop bad counting habits, and we are chanting 16 rounds in 1 hour and 20 mins…..so good…and yes I skip beads!

So if the rounds stay less than 2 hours than the possibility of skipping beads is certainly there and something to look at. If you finish one round in 5 minutes that means that you got to like chant very concentrated rounds. So it's possible to chant 5 minutes rounds but it's a serious business. Its like driving in 200km an hour and there is not a moment to be looking at the sides….the eyes are on the road. That's how it is. If you chant casual 5 minutes round, then either you are swallowing mantras or skipping beads……or both!

BEING INSPIRED

Sent to you by dinesh via Google Reader:

via GITA COACHING by akrura@gmail.com on 28/07/11

Devotees sometimes say, "I am not inspired. I am not inspired by the classes. I am not inspired by the Mangala Arati, by the kirtanas."

I say to them, "It is your responsibility to be inspired every single day. It is your duty to ensure that you are enthusiastic every single day. How are your going to do it? It's your task."

We can find ways to be inspired every day, but we have to become diligent. The mind has to become diligent, and has to want this state. "I want to be inspired every single day." And it's not some artificial hype-up thing.

For example, when you are chanting your rounds in the morning, this can be a wonderful process to become super inspired for the whole day. And if we listen to our rounds, we can be very much inspired. The whole day is amazing.

How can I be inspired, when I had a wonderful morning chanting and dancing with the devotees, or at my home, then I have to go to this stupid work?

Someone who works can be inspired like anything, if he sees his work differently. And if he sees preaching opportunities in his work. If you see that you can do something at your work that will bring people closer to Krsna consciousness, then you are excited to go there and find these opportunities and do something that is very valuable or significant.

WHAT YOU LIKE TO DO

Good one to think about!

Sent to you by dinesh via Google Reader:

via GITA COACHING by akrura@gmail.com on 28/07/11

Srila Prabhupada wrote to one uninitiated devotee that he should ask his Temple President to find him an activity that he is inspired to do. Srila Prabhupada says that it is advantageous to do to something we like to do, we are inspired to do, and it even positively affect following the principles.

This principle of doing something that you like to do is very important, but neglected. Because we run the movement, we need to do so many things, and we try to fit people into different projects, but we tend to forget about the people themselves.

When I do coaching I focus on the benefit of the individual. I ask devotees, "What is your dream? What ar you really excited about? Ideally speaking, what would you like to do for Krsna?"

In the beginning they don't always know, but as we go on with sessions something emerges and they really become excited. I keep on asking, "What would you really like to do for Krsna?" And then they come up with something.

Sometimes people are afraid to desire. I encourage them to desire something, even if the desire is not 100 percent pure. Let's say a devotee says, "I want to become a famous book distributor." This is not pure desire. He wants to do service but he also wants some fame. I teell him, "Go for it! If you become too proud, Krsna will sort you out. Don't worry! He will show you what is false and what is real."
