Thoughtfulness is an important quality for a devotee  because everyone has to consciously choose for Krishna.

Ultimately, as Srila Prabhupada said, everyone is flying his own plane. Prabhupada explains, that when a plane is on the ground, so much support is there. The staff is there, filling up the petrol and whatever, loading the plane. People are walking in and out with their earphones on and papers… it's a lot going on around the plane! But once the plane is in the air, then it's on it's own, Srila Prabhupada explained.

So everyone flies his own plane. Ultimately we all have to all ourselves make the connection with Krishna. And that connection with Krishna can only be fully established, if we let go of the material connections. So sooner or later, everyone has to say:

"Yes, only Krishna! Kecit kevalaya bhaktya vasudeva-parayanah -  Only, only Bhakti! Only Krishna! Nothing else!"

Did you know that its your choices that determines what you do, have, or become in life.
This then determines your environment, at home, work, or elsewhere. Also what kind of environment you live in, whether its positive or negative...
Now this is all determined by the people you associate with.
You cannot become successful by associating with people who do not have, or are not, what you would like to have or be.
If you wanted to be successful, would you go and speak to your friend who works a 9 to 5 Job, and is always complaining, OR would you gain knowledge and wisdom from someone who has achieved that level of success you are after, or are at least on the right track. ( Moving Forward )
You see, if you associate with these negative people, your thoughts will eventually become neagtive... AND as we become what we think about the most, What do you think your life will be like?
That's right...Negative. Full of problems and worries...isn't that so? Of course it is, but this is not what you want.
You have to become the driver in your life. You must steer yourself in the direction of your goals...whatever it is that you want out of life.
If you are a passenger, you will have very littke influence on the outcome, and you will end up following the crowd. Not because you have to, But because its easy to.
"Do not follow the masses. Create your own route to success".
Remember, your association determines your success, so choose who you associate with carefully.

I've played enough as God&I no longer like2perform dis foolish drama
where I get only kicks as in d case of a Dog.Dis dealings of mind with
matter is so unpleasant2d heart. Oh my mind,chief of all d senses,take
up d vows2restrain from Sense objects&place ur residence at d Lotus
feet of Govinda,for dat alone will be pleasing2d heart.Let me invest
my thinking@Your moon like faces so dat d burning senses be cooled.

The secret of success in Krishna consciousness is to connect each and
every minute of your day with Krishna. In this way, there will be
no gaps for maya. Once you completely block out maya by 24 hours a
day of Krishna consciousness, you will feel how you are living
constantly in the association of Krishna. This is the supreme
perfection of existence. There is nothing more sublime and
wonderful than this. There are so many ways we can connect with
Krishna. If you get tired of connecting with Him in one way, try
connecting with Him in another way. In this way, gradually,
gradually you will become so purified that you will easily remain
blissfully connected with Krishna for all of eternity.

The Rats Of Our Material Attachments

Deep down in our heart, due to material attachment, still some hankering for material happiness is there. Even while we fully grasp – philosophically that it is not possible to be happy in this material world – still another part of us is desiring it. This desiring of happiness in this material world is very deeply rooted, and such desires may plague us for many years in our spiritual life! They burden us – they are like the rats that are eating at the roots of our spiritual life!

Our spiritual life is based on roots of faith – faith in Srila Prabhupada – in his works – in his example. Faith in the books that he presented – the authorised scriptures, his translations and his purports. Faith in the holy name, and we take shelter but, although the roots of our faith have grown – the rats of our material attachments are eating at the roots – still eating at our roots, all along.

How? How can we free ourselves from these rats? That is the question.

'How can we overcome these always present lower nature, which, are always producing again and again sinful thoughts in our mind. Always, again and again pulls us a moment into considering:

"Shall I? No better not. I should! No…no.. I should try to enjoy this material energy".

But, again and again the senses of the mind is captured. Again and again it is trapped, and as soon as we think:

"Well maybe this enjoyment is alright".

Immediately, we get entangled! So, how can we just become free from such material desire?

'Anartha upasamam saksad bhakti-yogam adhoksaje'

We have to have the patience to tolerate our material desires, until the heart is purified from anarthas, which is stored there from so many lifetimes from these impurities – these stumbling blocks – the remaining sinful reactions from so many lifetimes, that are still stored there and cause sinful inclinations!

The conditioned soul finds himself in a reduced state – in a state of diminished capacity, and in this state we are still trying to fulfil the fundamental need of the soul – which is expressed in the aphorism:
' Anandamaya-bhyasat' - that the living being is eternally pleasure seeking.

Thus we are seeking pleasure with still the same intensity, but now directed towards the insignificant material energy, and thus with great eagerness and great hope, we are trying to enjoy the material energy, hoping that there we will find fulfilment, but there is no question, of how tiny and how insignificant it is. Gradually our ignorance in our conception of the absolute truth is becoming smaller day by day, until we are convinced that there is only this life!

Srila Prabhupada said:

"How can one possibly think that in one small life, one can fulfil everything? Or
How can one find fulfilment in one little life?"

And yet people are desperately trying by thinking:

"This is all I have, this one little life and with this one little life I will squeeze out all the juice that I can!"

How different is the transcendental personality, who knows very well that happiness is not found in the relationship with the temporary material nature. Who knows very well that the relation with the temporary material nature is one that can bring him mainly suffering!

Bhava, birth, should be understood to refer to the body. As far as the soul is concerned, there is neither birth nor death; that we have discussed in the beginning of Bhagavad-gita. Birth and death apply to one's embodiment in the material world. Fear is due to worrying about the future. A person in Krishna consciousness has no fear because by his activities he is sure to go back to the spiritual sky, back home, back to Godhead. Therefore his future is very bright. Others, however, do not know what their future holds; they have no knowledge of what the next life holds. So they are therefore in constant anxiety. If we want to get free from anxiety, then the best course is to understand Krishna and be situated always in Krishna consciousness. In that way we will be free from all fear.

Bhava, birth, should be understood to refer to the body. As far as the soul is concerned, there is neither birth nor death; that we have discussed in the beginning of Bhagavad-gita. Birth and death apply to one's embodiment in the material world.

In the Srimad-Bhagavatam it is stated that fear is caused by our absorption in the illusory energy, but those who are free from the illusory energy, those who are confident that they are not the material body, that they are spiritual parts of the Supreme Personality of Godhead and are therefore engaged in the transcendental service of the Supreme Godhead, have nothing to fear. Their future is very bright. This fear is a condition of persons who are not in Krishna consciousness. Bhayam, fearlessness, is only possible for one in Krishna consciousness.

So risk of impersonal realization is that because in the impersonal feature you cannot enjoy that blissfulness eternally, therefore sometimes — not sometimes, mostly — they come back again into the material world. Because by nature we are jubilant, in the impersonal feature of brahmajyoti, we cannot enjoy life. Therefore again we come back to this material enjoyment. Just like by an airplane, you want to go higher and higher, but if you don't get the shelter, a shelter in another planet, you will have to come back again to this planet.

Aruhya krcchrena param padam tatah patanty adhah anadrta-yusmad-anghrayah: [Srimad-Bhagavatam 10.2.32] "Unless you become elevated to the position of serving the Supreme Personality of Godhead face to face, simply by impersonal Brahman realization you cannot become happy. Therefore for enjoyment…" Enjoyment means variety, the varieties of enjoyment. "You come down again to the material world." We have seen it practically. Many big, big sannyasis and transcendentalists, they give up this world as mithya or false and take to sannyasa [renounced, monk life], but after some time, again they come back to this material world for executing philanthropic activities like opening hospitals or opening schools and other philanthropic activities. It so happens because they cannot fully realize the Absolute Truth as the Supreme Person, they again come to these material persons.

Therefore in the Bhagavad-gita you will find, Krishna says, bahunam janmanam ante jnanavan mam prapadyate, which means, "After many, many births, the jnanis, after speculative knowledge, when actually they come to the platform of knowledge, they surrender unto Me or they understand the Supreme Personality of Godhead."

The next line is, vasudevah sarvam iti sa mahatma sudurlabhah. One who can understand Krishna, whose another name is Vasudeva, so He is everything, He is the origin of everything, one who can understand, He is supposed to be mahatma, the liberated soul, or the great soul. Mahatma. Maha means great. Atma means soul. But sa mahatma sudurlabhah. It is very difficult to find out such mahatma. So the Krishna devotees who are engaged in these missionary activities, Krishna consciousness movement, they are not ordinary persons. They are mahatma, but very rarely to be found. Sa mahatma sudurlabhah.

So although everyone is searching after Krishna, either in impersonal Brahman or localized Paramatma, the person who has understood Krishna, the Supreme Person, he is the greatest, I mean to say, successful man within this world.

The Dormant State Of The Soul

Just as the sun is pervading the entire universe with light, in this same way the soul is pervading the entire body with consciousness. Thus, the consciousness is now reflected within the material body, and now the living being is perceiving reality through the material body, but in fact the relationship with the material body is only temporary and is not at all part of his eternal nature.

Thus the thinking, feeling and willing which we are now experiencing through the material mind, which is part of the material body, is simply a temporary experience. Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur explains that:

"When the spirit soul is entering into the material body, then that spirit soul is entering into a dormant state"

It is said that:

"Then the mind is borrowing the function of the soul – just as an ordinary bird may borrow the feathers of a peacock, and then surround with these feathers, but his is still an ordinary bird. In the same way, the mind borrows the functions of thinking, feeling and willing from the soul. Originally thinking, feeling and willing takes place on the platform of the soul, but in the embodied state, the soul enters into the body of this dormant state of consciousness and the functions of thinking, feeling and willing are now taking place through the mind, and thus we are becoming limited! The living entity becomes very limited in his perceptions".

"I Ask Only Three Steps" - The Vamanadeva Approach

We trust that Lord Vamanadeva will not mind that, for describing preaching
activities in ISKCON, we are using the famous words He spoke when He
conquered the entire universe. Since ISKCON's goal is to flood the whole
world with Krishna consciousness, I feel that this analogy is suitable and
justified.

As told by His Holiness Giriraja Maharaja:

We remember Srila Prabhupada's last days with us, and our last exchanges
with him.i Prabhupada asked me, "Do you think this movement will go on
without me?" I replied, "As long as we are sincere and chant Hare Krishna
and follow the regulative principles, the movement will go on." Srila
Prabhupada listened. Then, again with great difficulty and ever so softly,
Srila Prabhupada responded. He uttered the word, " "Organization.
"Organization and intelligence." I was startled. But later I considered the
significance of Srila Prabhupada's pragmatic reply. Although sincerely
chanting sixteen rounds and following the regulative principles are the
basis of Krishna consciousness, intelligence and organization are also
required, especially to spread Krishna consciousness and fulfill Srila
Prabhupada's and Lord Krishna's mission. (Talk given on 11 November 1999,

The mutual cooperation of all spiritual masters within ISKCON is what makes
us different from other spiritual organizations in India, and the result is
obvious. Yet it is no secret that there is still much scope for improving
cooperation and organization. The Vamanadeva Approach is a conceptual
overview of all preaching activities in ISKCON and of their interconnection
and interdependence.

First step: Contact

In this level of preaching are: book distribution, harinama, prasadam
distribution, festivals, Sunday Feast programs, Padayatra, and Krishna
consciousness in the media. These are the activities through which an
individual first comes in touch with Krishna consciousness. On this level
ISKCON is strong and effective. Most devotees are engaged in preaching on
this level, and ISKCON focuses most of its attention on this step. Yet
although it might be the strongest, without the other two it is incomplete.
Why? Because if we stress only this step, we are like a farmer who
enthusiastically sows grains here and there but does not also water and care
for the sprouted plants, or does not even remember where he planted them. In
this example, simply to plant seeds is more important than the crop yield!
In this world it is rare to meet a soul who has seriously cultivated
spiritual practices in previous lives and for whom his first contact with
ISKCON is sufficient for him to immediately become dedicated to devotional
service. Most conditioned souls need ongoing personal attention and
continued care from devotees to become serious in spiritual life.

We can give attention to someone only if we know how and where to find him
again. It's therefore essential to collect names, telephone numbers, and
email addresses of interested people. So in this context "contact" doesn't
just mean that someone came in contact with ISKCON, but that a
representative of ISKCON can contact him again. On this level the most
important task for preachers-especially those acting in the field of book
distribution, organizing festivals, and caring for the congregation-is to
understand the importance of obtaining contact information from everyone
they meet.

Second step: Cultivation

This step could be called the missing link in the preaching chain of most
ISKCON centers. Only a few keep a list of all members and friends and have a
team of devotees to systematically and professionally take care of people
who show interest in Krishna consciousness. Those persons should be invited
for temple programs, should be visited in their home, and should be assisted
in their spiritual development.

This is key for increasing the yatra's membership. (In Slovenia, fifty
percent of all guests first came to the temple on the invitation of a
friend.) Those email addresses and telephone numbers can help ensure that
new contacts don't get "lost in a crowd" and become forgotten until some
future time when they might again be met by a sankirtana devotee in the
street. In order to offer spiritual care to those who have shown interest in
Krishna consciousness, we need to keep a database of important information
about them-for example, their skills and the kinds of service they prefer,
or what special facilities or assistance they might require. Building a
personal relation with them, with special attention to fulfill their needs
and becoming friends with them, is the essence of cultivation and follow-up.

Third step: Care

On this level, new devotees receive a mentor, establish deep friendships,
begin to regularly attend Nama-hattas, Bhakti-vriksha or Counselor groups,
start advancing in the Siksa Program, study Srila Prabhupada's books, and
may join a Bhakti-sastri course. They gradually come to the point of taking
shelter of an ISKCON spiritual master.

Care can encompass emotional, spiritual, and social aspects of a person's
life; but it doesn't happen automatically. Initially it may be that we care
for others only out of duty, because we understand that it's an important
part of our spiritual culture. But in the long run, care must come from the
heart, from a deep appreciation for all living beings, the eternal parts of
Lord Krishna. By his example, Srila Prabhupada, a genuine representative of
Krishna, showed us the meaning of the word care.

To properly apply care we need to come to the level of sattva-guna and think
about the long-term benefit of the devotees.

Conclusion

The effectiveness of our preaching can be evaluated only when we know how
many people have begun chanting, how many are engaged in educational
programs, how many have become initiated, and so on. But only a few devotee
communities keep track of such data. The overall task delineated in the
Vamanadeva Approach is not necessarily easy, as all preaching programs must
run parallel to achieve the best results. Evaluating how well applied and
integrated the three steps are, gives us an idea of the development of a
yatra. ISKCON is strongest in the first step (Contact), but the second step
(Cultivation) is missing in many places. The third (Care) could be more
deeply assimilated in our culture and applied more systematically. For the
proper functioning of any yatra, it is essential that all three steps exist
and properly function-with the optimum number of devotees engaged,
investment of time spent, volume of resources used, and so forth. Our
"chain" of preaching will be most effective only if its links (all three
steps) are strong and firmly connected.

2legs,2hands,1head,v've given God a form like us.God is a person.Air
comes frm space,fire frm air,water frm fire&earth frm water&everything
comes frm Him.V cant love sky but a person.v can revive our
relationship(servant-master,friend,parent-child,lover) wid Him by
worshiping,thinking,hearing.OurLove4Him will never b lost unlike
relations here which sour/get diminished in d course of time!

The bhakta who has conquered the mind
`````````````````````````````````````
723) The sixth chapter of the Bhagavad Gita says that one who has conquered
his mind has reached the Supersoul. This chapter is told in the context of
laying out dhyana yoga. But, we practice bhakti-yoga. Does a pure and
realized devotee of Krishna (here, I mean the devotee has conquered the
mind, too) see Krishna in everyone's heart or the Supersoul? If the answer
is "Krishna," does he in any circumstances see the Supersoul?

Answer: Realization of the "Bhagavan" feature includes realization
of 'Brahman' and 'Paramatma' features. It is the most complete picture of
the Absolute Truth. A pure devotee sees the Supersoul as Krishna. He sees
the Lord in His Shyamasundara feature - in everyone's heart. This is
confirmed in Brahma-samhita:

premanjana-cchurita-bhakti-vilocanena
santah sadaiva hridayeshu vilokayanti
yam shyamasundaram acintya-guna-svarupam

When we speak of differences in realization of the Absolute Truth, it is in
terms of realizing the different features or characteristics of the *same*
Subject. When a brahman-realized person interacts with others, he sees them
as an energy of the Supreme. The vision of paramatma-realized yogi is more
evolved -- he sees everything and everyone in relationship with the
Supersoul -- which is but a clearer vision of brahman. Whereas a devotee
sees everyone as servants of Krishna, and Krishna reciprocating from within
the heart. (Recall the example of the Sun, or a hill, studied from afar,
and then closer, and further by entering into the Sun or the hill itself,
and clearly seeing the personalities there -- the subject is the same in
each case, the difference is in one's vision.)

We see according to our vision -- the same object carries different meaning
to different people according to their vision -- a loving mother sees a lot
more in her child's shoes than a stranger would.

The paramatma-realized yogi can appreciate some features of the Lord -- His
feature as Supersoul -- such as His being the source of everything, His
superintendence over material nature, His being equal to all living
entities, giving them remembrance, forgetfulness and knowledge etc, but
such a yogi does not have realization of the more intimate features such as
the sweetness of Krishna's nature or His loving reciprocation of Krishna
with His devotees. But because a devotee's eyes are anointed with pure
bhakti, He sees the Original Supreme Lord, Govinda or Krishna, even while
perceiving the activities of the Supersoul such as His maintaining the
material creation, or His being a witness to our activities.

This idea is more clearly illustrated in the description of Krishna
entering the arena of Kamsa, where different persons saw Him differently at
the very same moment - the wrestlers saw Krishna as a lightning bolt, the
yogis saw Him as Supreme Truth, the unintelligent saw Him as universal
form, Kamsa saw Him as Death personified, while His parents saw Him as
their own darling son. (SB 10.43.17)

We all look at the world through our own consciousness.


Need to stop judging and be more forgiving.


How many times do we stand before the Lord and ask for forgiveness yet when someone slips up we are like vultures circling the unfortunate jiva. Picking away at the accident caused.


Conflict occurs when you do not do what I want you to do. Or when you do not agree with me and my always right point of view.


But I find the best well wishers are those that are not afraid to tell you when you are wrong. How many friends do we have where we would dare to be totally honest in this way? Or do we shirk away from speaking the truth least we upset someone.


We are all affected by the 3 modes of material nature and our behaviour is an output of whatever mode we are influenced by. In this respect if only we could tolerate and just see the modes at work.


What a reduction in confliction we would have! As we would hate the sin but not the sinner.


Best to seek understanding of one another just as we want to be understood and accepted as we are.

Loneliness in spiritual life

Srila Prabhupada states in a letter to Hayagriva dasa in 1969 that he was lonely in the USA before he came to meet up with the young sincere hippies who helped him establish ISKCON.


Does loneliness exist then in spiritual life?


We know of spiritual loneliness - the desire to meet with Krsna and His devotees - and the pleasure/pain of being apart.


But what of devotees being lonely in their spiritual paths?


Does this denote a lack of spiritual attachment?


Not chanting deeply enough?


Poor sadhana?


Some elements are there but we can also feel lonely as we extricate ourselves from the material world and naturally attach ourselves to the spiritual world.


We no longer have anything in common with our peers, family, work colleagues...


We can also feel we have nothing in common with our spiritual colleagues as we feel some progression.


This can make us feel lonely.


We should not become superior as a result of this but always seek to try and understand and bring out the best in others.


One senior devotee told me that loneliness is like an intense emotion and this has to be given to Krsna. That longing, that aching, that emotion can all be Krsna - nized through the chanting of the holy names, through the reading of His books and through His services.

Amara Jivana (This Life)

Throughout my whole life I have been addicted to sin, never performing any pious activities. I have simply been a source of disturbance and suffering for others.



nija sukha lagi', pape nahi dari,


daya-hina svartha-para


para sukhe duhkhi, sada mithya-bhashi,


para-duhkha sukha kara (2)




For my own pleasure I never fear to commit any sin. I am devoid of pity and full of selfishness; I'm sorry at others' happiness and am an inveterate liar. Indeed, I take delight in others' miseries.



ashesha kamana, hridi majhe mora,


krodhi dambha-parayana


mada-matta sada, vishaye mohita,


himsa-garva vibhushana (3)




Endless are the selfish desires in my heart. I am prone to anger and devoted to arrogance. Intoxicated by conceit and deluded by attraction to sense pleasure, I ornament myself with pride and envy.



nidralasya-hata, sukarye virata,


akarye udyogi ami


pratishtha lagiya, shathya-acarana,


lobha-hata sada kami (4)




Afflicted by laziness and sleep, adverse to pious activities, I delight to perform any harmful act to obtain name and fame. I am very adept in duplicity, always lusty and degraded by mundane greed.





e hena durjana, sajjana-varjita,


aparadhi nirantara


shubha-karya-shunya, sadanartha-mana,


nana duhkhe jara jara (5)




Being such a miscreant and rejected by saintly persons, I have become a repeated offender. I never do good deeds but am inclined only to bad habits. Thus, I am oppressed by so many miseries.




vardhakye ekhana, upaya vihina,


ta'te dina akincana


bhakativinoda, prabhura carane,


kare duhkha nivedana (6)




Now in old age I am rendered helpless, reduced to a fallen and destitute condition. Bhaktivinoda presents his sad case at the feet of the Lord.

I read today that the way in which we approach the Holy Names is
indicative of our relationship with Krsna.

I found this very interesting.

It makes sense really as we understand the holy names are non-different
from Krsna.

In this respect we can gaze at the Deity and act out our devotion to
Him, swoon in ecstasy or become stunned into silence.

We can work 24-7 for Krsna and receive plaudits that we are such hard
workers and do sooooo much service.

But what of the way we treat Nama Prabhu?

He has mercifully descended into this dark, miserable material world as
a life line to the spiritual world. He is like an umbilical cord
connected to Krsna that gives us life and sustenance.

Yet when we associate with Him through our japa or kirtan where is our
mind?

What is our mood?

Are we looking to serve Him or be served by Him?

Do we hanker for a drop of taste from the Names or do we acknowledge He
is 'Rasa raja'? The Supreme enjoyer of rasas.

Nama Prabhu is a person - He is Krsna Himself.

Treat Him well and He will treat you well.

The object of our desires is on our lips and we allow the mind to wander
to lesser, coarser pleasures.

Keep dragging it back to the centre - to the names - once we realise
that the holy names are the goal of our practices as well as the means
to get there it will be amazing!

Trust the Holy Names and keep the faith!

Painful removal of anarthas

Sometimes we are so stubborn that we cannot see our own anarthas even when repeatedly pointed out by Krsna through His devotees.... this is when the purification process becomes painful - like having your wisdom tooth pulled out by a dentist and it is yanked this way and that way... so painful .... as the tooth refuse...s to come out.... just as we refuse to see our anarthas and thus hamper their removal.

I find that Krsna Consciousness is not for the faint hearted.

It gets to the core of who you are and yanks away the false ego - our comfort blanket for so long.

We try to become averse to the material world by becoming fanatics in the spiritual world.

But it does not work like that - Krsna Consciousness is a natural revolution of the heart - not an artificial imposition.

And like any natural relationship - it has to be worked at - slowly - respectfully.

We cannot rubber stamp ourselves as Vaisnavas just because we walk the walk and talk the talk ... oh and wear good tilak !

The core of this whole process I am finding is based around RELATIONSHIPS.

Our desire to have them, to avoid them and to control them.

We want to be selfish in deciding who we speak to, how we speak to them and when we do it. But it does not work like that... what about the other person and their free will?

In the spiritual world the objective is to serve the other person regardless of whether we get what we want... in fact our desires are fulfilled when we see the other person happy.

In the material world it is a matter of seeing who strokes my false ego the most and that is my friend -that is my well wisher.

But actually we have to work on ourselves first.

Make the change within and then our interaction, behaviour with others, speech, consciousness will all follow...

A deep subject I feel and one that requires deep friendships to get through.
