Lecture on Holy Name by HH.Jayapataka Swami Maharaj

The following is the lecture given by HH Jayapataka swami Maharaj in Chennai on 12th September 2011

 CC.Adi lila.7.73:

Translation: Simply by chanting the holy name of Krishna one can obtain freedom from material existence and simply by chanting the holy name of Krishna one can see the lotus feet of Krishna.

Commentary by HH Jayapataka Swami Maharaj

I am very happy. This week is the holy name week. This holy name is nondifferent from the lord.Thats why in  whole vrindavan  they chant the name of Krishna. When Krishna left the gopis in the rasa dance ,the gopis chanted hare Krishna. When yasoda was churning butter she chanted krishna's name."Golokera prema dana hari nama sankirtana".The chanting of the holy name of Krishna brings Krishna prema from goloka vrindavana. In Coimbatore 10000 people chanted the holy name. They chanted 108 times. Some said the voice inside them is repeating these names. When I was a new devotee in Montreal that time we went outside to maintain Srila  Prabhupada and ourselves. When I was working one workman fainted. So I chanted hare Krishna in his ear.Very soon he came back to his conciousness. He said the sound was like echo. This became louder and louder. It became much louder that it pulled him out. That sound filled the whole universe. That holy name is non different from Krishna. By chanting the holy name are you feeling spiritual bliss? Is that true? I heard that a program was conducted only for girls and they were chanting, dancing(mantra rock),feeling bliss.Recently I went to a program in Durgapur in NIT. There engineering students listened to all our presentations and lectures. Then I said how Lord Caitanya had given this process which is simply bliss. "sironmani kevala ananda kanda"I said prabhupada went to the west to give this process chanting hare Krishna, dancing, hearing some classes and eating some prasadam. Mahaprabhu has given this process chant and dance, move your chairs.Everybody danced and chanted.I went to srilanka the people asked me why are you always telling from Bhagavatam? Tell from skanda purana, siva purana. In skanda purana there is one quote. That is we should chant the two syllables hari.By chanting this hari, Krishna will steal from you all your sufferings, garbage, bad karma. Hari Hari Hari .If we chant the names of Gaura hari,Gaura hari nityananda, we get love for Krishna. So this process of chanting the holy names is mentioned in all the puranas. That was propagated by Lord Caitanya and Lord Nityananda. So they are supremely merciful."parama karuna bahuduhi jana nitai gaura Chandra".They are supremely merciful. That means parama karuna. They are the Lords.Incarnations of Krishna and Balarama.

They have nothing to achieve. They have everything. But they give their mercy. Locana dasa thakur recommends "bhajo bhajo bhai caitanya nitai".They tell us give up these illicit activity. Gambling, meat eating, intoxication, drinking wine, girls association. We are against illicit sex, but we are promoting families. On july 30th I read srila prabhupada letter "these children are sent by Krishna".We are very fortunate to help them on their spiritual platform. They are actually vaikunta kids. Brahmacaris and Sanyasis we can not help kids. So Prabhupada said don't be confused this is very important seva.? He wrote to Arundathi mataji if you don't have time to take care your child give up your pujari service. Ladies you must take care of your children.I am very happy to see here today nice kids. This is oneway of making devotees. But it also takes lots of time. Its not easy service. We should encourage them to take care of their children and make them very much positive to Krishna. So we give up illicit activity. We absorb ourself in the rasa of Krishna bhakti. Also we chant the holy names-yuga dharma. We are absorbed in Krishna consciouness and chant

" hare Krishna hare Krishna Krishna Krishna hare hare

hare rama hare rama rama rama hare hare".

Study my dear brothers you don't find no kind persons than these two with in the 3 worlds as merciful as nitai gaura Chandra.Even the animals are chanting.Stones melted. This actually happened.By Lord Caitanyas mercy the animals of jharikand also chanted hare Krishna. In the alarnath temple we also see how Lord Caitanya melted even the stone.Srila prabhupada said "Lord caitanya made animals to chant, you make atleast humans to chant.I like that all the girls are chanting. This is the week of the holyname. We have to see everybody chanting and dancing in bliss. Sukadeva Goswami says that this kaliyuga is the ocean of defects.Kalav dose nide rajan…It is not idly dosa. Its ocean of defects. But there is one good quality. What is that?

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare

Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

Only one good thing. One good quality. If you are not chanting then what it is? Nothing good. I am also happy that Sumithra Krishna prabhu and many others are giving opportunity for everyone to chant the holyname. This chanting process not only free's us from maya but also takes us to the supreme destination. So please chant everyday. By chanting your life will be perfected.

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare

Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

Prabhupada said you cannot chant any name of Krishna, any name of lord. When Prabhupada came to Calcutta in 1975,he mentioned that he talked to Islamic followers. Allah oh Akbar means parabrahma. So like that he told if you are not chanting hare Krishna you chant allah oh akbar.Like this Christians can chant the names of god in Hebrew. I heard in south America one Christian lady is chanting jeso Krishna jeso Krishna…Then she thought oh no one is watching, why not chant hare Krishna. Then she chanted   Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare

Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

And she told this is the same and it is still more powerful. In our Vedas there is only one god. One parabrahma. He has unlimited names. So like that please make everybody chant. Especially this week. If they don't want to chant hare Krishna tell them to chant whatever name they like. It should be a name of god. So like this everybody should merge in the chanting of the holyname. Now ofcourse in india 80% are hindus more or less.So every Indian tell all of them to chant hare Krishna this week. Lord Caitanya when he visited the temples of karthikeya, ganesha, durga, shiva,Vishnu he chanted hare Krishna maha mantra. He also wanted to chant hare Krishna in all the temples. Demigods are pleased if we chant hare Krishna. Infact in shiva purana it is said chanting sahasranama is transcendental. Chanting one name of Rama is equal to the thousand name of Vishnu. It is spoken by lord shiva. If you chant one name of Krishna that's equal to three thousand names of Vishnu. You don't know that sloka? Lord Caitanya like to quote  from Brhad naradiya purana.Harer nama harer nama harer namaiva kevalam…So please engage everybody to chant. This chanting is very very powerful. We cannot under estimate how powerful is it. We cannot over estimate. Is there any question of the holy name which I answer? Srila prabhupada never converted anyone from his religion. He said we are not changing anyone but we are making them to believe fully. Christians believe in one god. We don't have to reject jesus. We respect jesus. But we chant hare Krishna. Jesus is a son of god we know. But Krishna is the father. This vaisnava religion is very great it brings all together.

We are conducting big programmes and making people to chant once and they are not coming again so what is the benefit we get from that?

Coimbatore youth said they asked the people to chant one round everyday.70% agreed to chant one round everyday. They got 3000 contacts .If some people accepts chanting, please tell them to chant everyday. Also from those who are interested try to take their names, contacts. Even if they chant one time it puts them in the orbit of Krishna. So like this also by chanting one time they are inspired they again and again also come in to the association of devotees.

How to practically increase the taste for chanting?

We should chant more and more. Also get the mercy of Lord Caitanya,Nityananda.

"Sri Krishna caitanya prabhu nityananda sri advaita gadadara sri vasadi gaura bhakta vrnda"

I met one man he was chanting 16 rounds for 26 years but he felt no taste. I asked did you chant the name of Lord Caitanya. He said no,I came from some other sampradaya. I gave this panca tattva mantra and he started chanting it first and then hare Krishna. After 3 months I came back to the same place. From a distance he came running he fell at my feet. With tears in his eyes he asked what mantra you gave me? Now I got taste to chant hare Krishna. Also srila prabhupada said someone who is too sinful he can chant the name of nitai gaur. Others give their mercy to their followers. But nitai gaur gives mercy even to the non followers. Jagai,Madhai they are not followers. They were very bad people. They were even antisocial enemies. They can also get the mercy of nitai gaur."Paapi thapi thaka chilo harinama udarilo tara sakshi jagai madhai". In katwa I saw the Samadhi of jagai, madhai. It was 200m from the ganges. Everyday they go there chant and dance. They will cry

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare

Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

What mercy? What mercy? Please grab the lotus feet of nitai gaur.Haribol.

Last question.

How many rounds we have to chant to come out of the mental stress?

You keep on chanting continuously and tell me when it disappears.16 rounds works I think. Whoever chants 16 rounds daily they chant one crore names in one year.In one year you become a crorepati.12 rounds then 75 lakhs names,8 rounds 50 lakhs names,4 rounds 25 lakhs names. Exactly how many rounds removes the stress is the good experiment. I got so much bliss, on first day I chanted 32 rounds. So all my stress, all gone. So I don't want to ask. I am not the person to ask. It depends on how much anxiety, how much stress you have. Also you can chant panca tattva mantra. This will help you.

So thank you all very much

Get up! Prepare to fight and win glory-Bhagavad-gita As It Is | Part [BG.11.19]

Here comes the real personality development..you dont have to go anywhere but read Bhagavad Gita As It Is for developing you personality from the lower modes to the transcendental consciousness which is Krishna Consciousness. The Supreme Lord Himself gives the counselling. Who is more perfect than the Supreme Lord?

Bhagavad-gita As It Is | Part [BG.11.19]

TEXT 33:

tasmat tvam uttishtha yaso labhasva
jitva satrun bhunkshva rajyam samriddham
mayaivaite nihatah purvam eva
nimitta-matram bhava savya-sacin

TRANSLATION:

Therefore get up. Prepare to fight and win glory. Conquer your enemies and enjoy a flourishing kingdom. They are already put to death by My arrangement, and you, O Savyasaci, can be but an instrument in the fight.

PURPORT:

Savya-sacin refers to one who can shoot arrows very expertly in the field; thus Arjuna is addressed as an expert warrior capable of delivering arrows to kill his enemies. "Just become an instrument": nimitta-matram. This word is also very significant. The whole world is moving according to the plan of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Foolish persons who do not have sufficient knowledge think that nature is moving without a plan and all manifestations are but accidental formations. There are many so-called scientists who suggest that perhaps it was like this, or maybe like that, but there is no question of "perhaps" and "maybe." There is a specific plan being carried out in this material world. What is this plan? This cosmic manifestation is a chance for the conditioned souls to go back to Godhead, back to home. As long as they have the domineering mentality which makes them try to lord it over material nature, they are conditioned. But anyone who can understand the plan of the Supreme Lord and cultivate Krishna consciousness is most intelligent. The creation and destruction of the cosmic manifestation are under the superior guidance of God. Thus the Battle of Kurukshetra was fought according to the plan of God. Arjuna was refusing to fight, but he was told that he should fight in accordance with the desire of the Supreme Lord. Then he would be happy. If one is in full Krishna consciousness and his life is devoted to the Lord's transcendental service, he is perfect.

Yamunacharya – Alabandara – “The Conqueror”

Yamunacharya – Alabandara – "The Conqueror"

"The Life of Ramanujacharya" by Naimisaranya Das, published by the Vaisnava Educational Alternative (VEDA) in 1989. There are many nice stories in this book about this great vaisnava Yamunacharya (the predecessor to Sri Ramanuja).

In the south of India many great devotees have appeared to spread the glories of the Lord. Of all these devotees, perhaps the most famous is Sri Ramanujacharya, whose life is the subject of this book. However, just before Ramanuja there lived another great Vaisnava whose life and teachings had a tremendous influence on Ramanuja, although in fact the two of them never met. This was Sri Yamunacharya, also known as Alabandara – "The Conqueror". It is appropriate in considering the life of Ramanujacharya that we should first look briefly at this great soul, the illustrious writer of the famous Stotra-ratna.
Yamunacharya was born around AD 918 in the city of Madurai in south India, which was then the capital of the mighty Pandya kings. His grandfather was a well-known scholar and devotee known as Nathamuni, who was also famous for his mystic abilities and expertise in the practice of astanga yoga. It was Nathamuni who first compiled the songs of Nammalvara, a famous south Indian devotee, and had them set to music.
Nathamuni's son was a handsome, intelligent young man named Isvaramuni, who married a beautiful young wife. Shortly after the wedding, Isvaramuni travelled with his wife and parents to visit the holy places of pilgrimage in northern India, including Vrindavan, the birthplace of Lord Krsna. Just a few months after their return from this pilgrimage, Isvaramuni's wife gave birth to a baby boy, and, in memory of the sacred river which flows through Vrindavana, Nathanmuni named him Yamuna.
However, the joy of the young couple was but short-lived, for just a few years after the birth of the child, Isvaramuni passed from this world, leaving his young wife a widow.
Nathamuni was so distressed by the untimely death of his son that he decided to have no more to do with the affairs of this world. He left his wife and relatives to take up the life of a renounced sannyasi, totally dedicating himself to the worship of Lord Visnu. Thus at a very young age Yamunacharya was left to be brought up by his mother and aged grandmother, living a life of great poverty.
The Challenge
When he was five years old, Yamunacharya went to study at the school of Bhasyacharya and quickly won his teacher's affection, both for his sweet nature and his ability to learn quickly. He studied hard, and by the time he was twelve years old he was Bhasyacharya's best student.
In those days in India, great scholars used to challenge one another to see who was the more learned in Vedic scriptures and more skilled in the science of logic. While Yamunacharya was studying at the school of Bhasyacharya, there was a great scholar who lived at the court of the Pandya king. His name was Kolahala, and he was a great favorite of the king because he could defeat any other scholar in a debate. In fact, the king had passed a law decreeing that every scholar who had been defeated by Kolahala must pay a tax to him every year – if anyone refused he would be put to death.
Now Yamunacharya's teacher, Bhasyacharya, had also been defeated by Kolahala, and so he too was obliged to pay this tax. However, because he was a very poor man, he had not been able to pay for the past two years. One day, when Bhasyacharya was away on business and all the other students had gone home, Yamunacharya was left alone in the school. At that time one of Kolahala's disciples came there to collect the overdue tax from Bhasyacharya.
"Where is your teacher?" he demanded in imperious tones when he saw that Yamunacharya was alone in the school.
"Might I know, sir, who has sent you here?" replied Yamunacharya in a very gentle voice, anxious not to give any offense.
"What!" exclaimed the disciple, "do you not know that I am a disciple of the greatest and most erudite scholar in all of India? Kolahala is the terror of all other scholars, and even the great Pandya king is his obedient servant. All those scholars defeated by the great Kolahala must pay a yearly tax or else forfeit their lives. Has you teacher become insane that he dares to withold payment for two years? Or is it that he intends to challenge my master again, just as a moth rushes into a blazing fire."
Yamunacharya was by nature very kindhearted, and he hardly ever quarreled with his fellow students. However, he also had great love and respect for his teacher. Therefore, when he heard Bhasyacharya being spoken of in that contemptuous manner, he felt such pain at heart that he could not restrain himself and replied very strongly to Kolahala's messenger. "How foolish you are and how foolish your teacher is as well, for who but the greatest fool would train his disciple to possess such monumental pride, instead of removing such qualities from his heart. Why should my noble teacher waste his time debating with such a man? Go and tell you master that the lowest disciple of the great Bhasyacharya challenges him to a debate. If he dares to face me, let him send his reply at once."
Kolahala's disciple was so astonished and indignant that he could not think of anything to say, but left in a furious rage to inform his teacher of this insult. When Kolahala heard what had happened, he could not help bu tlaugh on hearing the age of his rival. The Pandya king decided to send another messenger to the boy to see whether he was insane, and, if he was serious about the debate, to bring him immediately. When the royal messenger came and told Yamunacharya of the kings command, the boy replied, "I will certainly obey the command of his majesty the king; but if I am to be accepted as a proper opponent of the great Kolahala, then surely a conveyance should be sent to bring me to his palace."
After discussing Yamunacharya's reply, the king and his courtiers agreed that the boy's statement was fitting and sent a costly palanquin and one-hundred soldiers to conduct him to the palace. In the meantime news of these events had spread all over the city of Madurai, and Bhasyacarya heard the whole story as he was returning home. He was very unhappy to learn of the danger his favorite student was facing, for though the king was generous by nature, it was well known that he dealt very severely with anyone who insulted the court pandita.
Yamunacharya, however, was not in the least concerned. "There is no reason, revered sir, for you to be alarmed," he consoled his teacher when he returned to the school, "for you can be certain that, by your grace, I will smash the pride of Kolahala".
While they were thus talking, the king's men arrived at the school with the palanquin. Yamunacharya worshipped the feet of his guru and calmly climbed into the palanquin, preparing himself for the great debate that was about to take place. A large crowd of people had gathered along the way, for it was unheard of that a 12 year old boy should challenge the court pandita and everyone wanted to catch a glimpse of the wonderful child. The brahmanas, many of whom had already been defeated by Kolahala, offered him blessings, saying "May you defeat this insolent pandita, just as Visnu in the form of a dwarf brahmana displaced Bali Maharaja, the king of the asuras".
Meanwhile, in the royal court a difference of opinion arose between the king and queen about Yamunacharya. The king said, "Just as a cat plays with a mouse, so will Kolahala defeat and destroy the boy."
But the queen was more thoughtful, realizing that Yamunacharya was no ordinary child. "Just as a small spark," she said, "can turn a mountain of cloth to ashes, so will this boy destroy the mountain-like pride of Kolahala."
"How can you really believe that this is possible?" exclaimed the king in amazement. "If you truly have faith in the child, then you must make a wager to back your words."
"Very well," replied the queen, "I will make a wager. If the boy does not defeat and humble the proud Kolahala, I will become the servant of your maidservant."
"This is certainly a mighty wager," said the king, "but I will match it. If the boy defeats Kolahala, as you say, then I will give him half of my kingdom."
While the king and queen were thus exchanging wagers, the palanquin arrived and Yamunacharya entered the palace. When Kolahala saw him, he looked at the queen and smiled sarcastically. "Alabandara," he said, meaning, "Is this the boy who will conquer me?"
"Yes" replied the queen quietly, "Ala-bandara. This is he who has come to conquer you."
The Contest
When the contestants were seated, Kolahala began the debate by putting simple questions on Sanskrit grammar to Yamunacharya. When, however, he found the boy could answer them with ease, he began to pose really difficult grammatical problems; but still, Yamunacharya replied to them all without difficulty.
He then spoke to the great pandita with a playful smile on his lips. "Because I am just a boy, you are insulting me by asking these simple questions. Remember that Astavakra was no older than myself when he defeated Bandi at the court of King Janaka. If you judge a person's learning by his size, then surely it follows that the water buffalo will be a greater scholar than yourself."
Although Kolahala winced at these words, he controlled his anger and replied smilingly, "Well answered. Now it is your turn to put questions to me."
"Very well" Yamunacharya responded, "I will put three propositions before you, and, if you can refute them, I shall accept defeat." Kolahala agreed and prepared to refute Yamunacharya's statements. "My first proposition is this" Yamunacharya spoke out clearly and boldly, "that your mother is not a barren woman. Refute this if you can."
Hearing this, Kolahala remained silent. "Had my mother been barren, my birth would not have been possible" he thought. "How can I refute this statement" Seeing Kolahala as silent as a dumb man, all the courtiers were astonished. Although the great pandita tried to conceal his anxiety, he could not prevent a flush from crossing his cheeks.
Yamunacharya spoke again, "Sir, if in spite of your all-conquering intelligence you are unable to refute my first proposition, then please hear my seond. It is this, that the Pandya king is supremely righteous. Refute this if you can." On hearing this Kolahala, was deeply disturbed, sensing his imminent defeat. With the king seated there in front of him, how could he deny the boy's statement? Again he remained silent, the color draining from his face as he was scarcely able to control his anger.
Yamunacharya spoke again, "Here is my third proposition – that the queen of the Pandya king is as chaste and faithful to her husband as was Savitri. Refute this if you can."
Seeing how he had once again been trapped by the intelligent boy, Kolahala could no longer restrain his anger. "You rascal" he screamed, "how can any loyal subject say that his king is unrighteous or his queen unfaithful to her husband? It is true I have not replied to your statements, but that does not mean I am defeated. First you must refute your own propositions, and, if you cannot, you should be put to death, for the implications of you words are treason against your king and queen."
When Kolahala shouted out these words, all his disciples and supporters cheered; but all those who favored Yamunacharya cried, "No, Kolahala is defeated. He is simply letting forth his anger, because he could not refute the statements of Yamunacharya as he promised to do".
Thus an argument broke out in the palace, but in the midst of the contention Yamunacharya quieted them all by saying, "Please stop this argument, for it is unnecessary. I shall refute all my propositions one by one. Please hear me." At this everyone fell silent and turned their attention to Yamunacharya, wondering how he could possibly do this and yet not offend the king and queen.
"My first statement" he continued,"was that our great pandita's mother was not a barren woman. However, it is stated in the Manu-samhita that a woman who has only one child is to be considered barren. As your mother gave birth to only one son, even though he is a man of such merit as yourself, according to the sastra, she must be considered barren. Secondly, I stated that the king of the Pandyas is a most righteous man. However, the Manu-samhita states that a king enjoys the benefit of one sixth of the religious acts of his subjects, but also has to bear the burden of one sixth of their sinful deeds. Because in the present age of Kali men are more prone toward sinfulness than piety, it must follow that our king, although flawless in his own character, is bearing a heavy burden of unrighteousness. And now to my third proposition, which stated that our queen is as chaste and faithful as was Savitri. But again, if we consult the laws of Manu, it is said that the king is the representative of Agni, Vayu, Surya, Chandra, Yama, Kuvera, Varuna, and Indra. Therefore, the queen is married not to just one man, but to these eight demigods as well. So how can it be said that she is chaste?"
On hearing these wonderful answers, all the people were filled with amazement, and the queen joyfully cried out, "Ala-bandara! Ala-bandara! He has conquered! He has conquered!"
The king immediately came forward and embraced Yamunacharya. "Just as on the rising of the sun" he said, "all the insignificant stars fade away, so you, O learned Alabandara, have conquered the proud Kolahala by your learning and skill. This fellow just a short while ago was demanding your death, now you may deal with him as you see fit. I have also promised to give you half my kingdom as a prize for this victory, and that promise I will certainly fulfill."
Of course, Yamunacharya forgave Kolahala, and, although he was but a boy of 12 years, he began at once to rule the kingdom he had won. Thus his days of poverty were over.

He and he alone is the man of God"

"He and he alone is the man of God"

Thursday, September 24, 2009

He and he alone is the man of God,
Who knows the pain and misery of others,
Who tries to help others in distress,
And who does not have pride in his mind.

He and he alone is the man of God,
Who respects and salutes all,
Who does not talk ill of others,
Who keeps his mind pure in words and action,
And whose mother is considered blessed by all.

He and he alone is the man of God,
Who views everybody as equal,
Who considers other women as his mother,
Who never tells lies all his life,
And who never yearns for other's wealth.

He and he alone is the man of God,
Who never has any attachments,
Who is strongly detached to worldly pleasures,
Who is addicted to remembering his God,
And in whose mind are all the holy places of the world.

He and he alone is the man of God,
Who has no greed and deceit in his mind,
Who has forsaken all pleasures and anger,
And whose sight is thirsted for by Narasi the poet,
For the entire family gets salvation on seeing him.

(Kadamaba Kanana Swami, lecture from 17.07.2011. at Fruska Goranga Summer Camp, Serbia)

This reciting of the Bhagavatam, or the message of the Bhagavatam, can bring about the revolution in the impious life of a misdirected civilization. So weather we are speaking about a revolution of the world at large, or we are speaking about a revolution in our own life, it is the same revolution.

Through this Bhagavatam one can make a major change, and the aim is to become saintly persons. It is not sufficient to just be a member of the Hare Krishna movement, to even be initiated from the Hare Krishna movement, to wear tilak and neckbeads and to do those things… It's not only about what we do, but it is also about who we are.

We have to be saintly persons. That is truly the aim of connecting to this  movement.

Dhotis and saris are the best!

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, Finland, 2011)

Each set of clothes brings with it a certain mood and a certain mentality. I was in Bengal on a train, and I was wearing these clothes. There was a young Bengali boy who was wearing Bermuda shorts with some designs….colourful…….and he laughs at me.

He says:

"Look at that! "

I asked:

"What's your problem?"

"Look at those clothes!"

So I said:

"Well, you know look at those clothes…look at those clothes!"

And what he was wearing.

So I asked him:

"Do you like those shorts?"

"I like them very much".

"Ok. So do you wear them everyday?"

"No, of course not. Not everyday. Only sometimes".

I said:

"Well I wear these clothes everyday because they are spiritual and therefore, they are fully satisfying. I do not need to change. But you have your shorts today, and then you wearing something else, only because you are not completely satisfied".

So if you look at the pictures of Krishna and Lord Ramachandra,They wear these clothes.

Some people they say:

"Why do we have to wear these Indian clothes in the West?"

There is a certain group of devotees who are feeling like that…and are speaking out like that. Even some senior leaders have spoken up like that.

Srila Prabhupada has explained this:

"India is a very special Country. It is very special, because in India they speak Sanskrit…traditionally it is Sanskrit. Sanskrit is 'deva nagari' – is the language spoken in the heavenly planets! It is even spoken in Vaikuntha!"

So the Indian culture is parallel to the culture of the heavenly planet, and that means that whatever is in the heavenly planets, is predominating by goodness. Whatever is going on in our regions is predominating by passion. The earthly regions are predominating by passion. So therefore, this dress, this culture has a value because it is related to the culture of the spiritual world, and that is coming through India.

So India is an amazing place. Not only is the Ganges coming from the spiritual world onto material world, but there is a whole culture within it. Both Krishna and Lord Ramachandra wears dhoti…..Sita wears a sari and therefore dhotis and saris are the best! So it's not Indian culture, but a spiritual culture!

ARCHANA (Worship of the Deity Form of the Lord)

Sent to you by dinesh via Google Reader:

via Padyavali Dasi's Facebook Notes by Padyavali Dasi on 8/31/11

Once a great Muslim scholar by the name of Mullah Badaruddin Sahib came to debate with the vaisnavas of Godruma followers of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. These vaisnava sadhus chose Goracanda dasa Pandita Babaji of Sri Mayapur to speak to Mullah and the following is part of this brilliant debate between both parties:

Mullah: We have heard that your first preacher, Chatanyadeva took all the faults out of the Hindu religion. Srill He was in favor of this 'byut' (imaginary form) worship, or worship of a material thing. We want to know form the Vaisnavas is: Why, after consulting the scriptures, have you not rejected this 'byut' worship?

Human beings are situated on different levels of knowledge and purity. A person situated in pure spiritual knowledge is able to worship the pure spiritual form of the Lord. Persons situated on lower levels of spiritual awareness understand the Lord to a lesser degree, and they who are on the lowest level cannot understand the Lord's spiritual nature at all. When he meditates on God, a person on the lowest level inevitably imagines that God has a material form with material qualities. To think that the Deity form of the Lord is a statue made of clay is the same as to meditate in the mind on a Supreme that one imagines to have a form made of matter.

Actually, for persons on that level of advancement, worship of the Deity form of the Lord is very beneficial. In fact, if there were no Deity worship, the people in general would be in an inauspicious condition. If an ordinary person eager to see God were not able to see the Deity form of the Lord, then he would lose hope that he would ever see the Lord. The followers of religions that forbid Deity worship are on a low level of spiritual advancement. They are materialistic and not interested in worshiping the Lord. Therefore Deity worship is the foundation of religion.

Pure and wise saints gaze on the form of the Supreme Lord. Their hearts purified by devotion, they know that the Deity form of the Lord is pure spirit. As the heart becomes more and more purified by devotion, the worshiper gradually comes to understand that the Deity form of the Lord is a spiritual form reflected within the realm of the material world. Thus the Deity form is the spiritual form of the Lord, a form that the great saints have arranged to be reflected within the material world. An advanced devotees can directly perceive that the Deity form is perfectly spiritual. An intermediate devotee thinks the Deity form is a mental image.

At first a neophyte devotee thinks the Deity is a statue made of material elements, but as he gradually become pure in heart, he also gradually comes to understand that the Deity is actually made of spirit. Therefore the Deity form of the Lord should be worshiped by all classes of devotees. To worship an imaginary form is forbidden. However, to worship the real eternal form of the Lord is very auspicious. Therefor the worship of the Deity of the Lord is established for all three classes of Vaishnavas. There is nothing wrong in it. On the contrary, it brings the greatest auspiciousness.

In Shrimad-Bhagavatam (11.14.26) the Supreme Lord Himself declares:

yatha yathatma parimrijyate 'sau

     mat-punya-gatha-shravanabhidhanaih

tatha tatha pashyati vastu sukshmam

     cakshur yathaivanjana-samprayuktam

"When a person purifies his heart by hearing and singing pure songs describing Me, he gradually becomes able to see spirit. He becomes like a person whose eyesight is restored by medicinal ointment."

In the material world the mind tends to be filled with material thoughts. In that condition the soul is not able to understand his true spiritual identity and he is also not able to serve the Supreme Lord, who resides in his heart as the Supersoul. By hearing and chanting the Lord's glories and by performing other kinds of devotional service, the soul gradually becomes powerful. Then the bonds of matter that hold him become slackened. As the bondage of matter becomes slackened, the soul becomes stronger, and in the course of time the soul becomes exalted. He can directly see spirit, and he can act on the spiritual platform.

Some say that one should far away all that has no relation to the Lord and one should act only to attain Him. However, one cannot become spiritual strong merely by dry knowledge. How can a conditioned soul get the power to suddenly renounce all that has no direct relation to the Lord? Can a prisoner in jail release himself simply by wishing to be free? the soul imprisoned in the material world has committed an offense to the Supreme Lord. He must find a way to lessen that offense. The spirit soul is by nature an eternal servant of Lord Krishna. The root of the soul's offense is that he has forgotten that. Therefore, somehow or other he should turn his mind to think of the Lord. By gazing at the Deity form of the Lord, hearing the description of the Lord's pastimes, and other devotional activities, the soul gradually revives his original spiritual nature.

The more the soul's original nature is revived, the more the soul can see spirit directly. Serving the Deity of the Lord, and hearing and chanting the Lord's glories are the only way for the neophyte devotee to make spiritual advancement. For this reason the great saints have established Deity worship in this world.

Mullah: Is it not better to meditate on an imaginary within the mind than to make an imaginary Deity form out of the material elements?

Goracanda: They are the same. When the mind is material, it thinks only of material things. You may say, Brahman, the Supreme, is all-pervading". Still, the material mind will think Brahman is like the material element ether, which is also all-pervading. However, if I continue to meditate on Brahman in that way, in the course of time the real truth about Brahman will be manifested in my heart. Time and space are material. If the mind's meditation is not beyond time and space, then how can the mind meditate on something that is beyond the material world.

Rejecting the Deity form as something made of earth, water, or other material elements, you meditate on an imaginary form of the Lord, a form made of time and space. That is worship of a material form of the Lord, a graven image of the Lord. A material so-called form of the Lord is not needed. The Lord is not material. His is spiritual. That is His nature. Therefore a process is given to the conditioned souls by which they can approach the spiritual Supreme Lord. By chanting the Lord's holy names, by narrating His pastimes, and by worshiping His Deity form, one gradually becomes more and more devoted to the Lord. When the worshiper attains pure devotion, he can see the spiritual form of the Supreme Lord. Philosophical speculation and fruitive work will not help one to see the Lord.

Mullah: the Supreme Lord is different from matter. It is said that Satan introduced the worship of material things in order to trap the souls in the material world. Therefore I think it is not good to worship material things.

Goracanda: The Supreme Personality of Godhead is one without a rival. No one can possible compete with Him. Everything in this material world was created by Him and is dependent on Him. The Supreme Lord may be worshiped in many different ways. He is pleased by all these different kinds of worship. It is not that He will become an enemy if someone worships Him a particular way. He is all-auspicious.

If you say that Satan does something, then I say that Satan does not have the power to do anything against the Supreme Lord's will. If Satan exists, then he must be an individual soul dependent on the Supreme Lord. However, I think that this Satan does not exist. Why not? Because in this material world nothing can ever be done to thwart the Supreme Lord's will. There is not a single individual soul who is not dependent on the Supreme Lord. You may ask, `What is the origin of sin?' I reply: The individual soul is by nature a servant of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Awareness of this fact is knowledge. To forget this fact is ignorance.

If an individual spirit soul forgets this fact, then he sows the seed of sins in the field of his heart. A person who always remains a liberated associate of the Lord does not plant the seed of sin in his heart. Instead of imagining this mythological Satan, one should honestly see the ignorance in his own heart. Therefore, even if one worships the Supreme Lord as present in the material elements, he commits no offense. Therefore Deity worship is necessary for the neophyte devotee and the source of great auspiciousness for the advanced devotee. Therefore the idea that Deity worship is not good is only a theory of some thinkers. It is not at all supported by the pure scriptures.

Mullah: Deity worship is not good for attaining love of God. It simply fills the mind with many material ideas.

Goracanda: By studying the ancient history books we can see that your conclusion is wrong. many neophyte devotees begin their spiritual life by worshiping the Deity form of the Lord. As they continue the Deity worship in the association of the devotees, they gradually become advanced, and then they can directly see that the Deity is the spiritual form of the Supreme Lord Himself. Then they become plunged in a great ocean of spiritual love for the Lord. This is the undeniable truth: Association with the devotees of the Lord is the root of all that is good. By associating with spiritually advanced devotees of the Lord, one gradually attains spiritual love for the Lord. When one attains spiritual love for the Lord, the idea that the Deity form is material perishes. As one gradually becomes advanced, he attains great good fortune. Non-Aryan religions are generally opposed to deity worship. But look! How many followers of those religions have attained spiritual love for the Lord? They simply spend their time arguing with each other and hating each other. How can they understand loving devotion to the Lord?

Mullah: If one has love for the Lord, then there is no fault in His worshiping the Deity. However, how can the worship of a dog, a cat, a snake, a debauchee, or some other kind of being be worship of the Supreme Lord? The honorable prophet has specifically forbidden worship of "byut".

Goracanda: The people in general are grateful to God. Whether they sin or not, they have faith in the supremacy of God, and they bow down before the wonders that are displayed in this world. Prompted by their gratitude to God, the ignorant aborigines bow down before the sun, the river, the mountain, or anything that is very big and grand. They offer themselves to these things and they reveal their hearts to them. Although there is certainly a great difference between spiritual love for the Lord and the worship of material things, the bewildered people who show their gratitude to God by bowing down before these material things gradually attain a good result.

Therefore if you see with the eye of reason, you will not blame them for worshiping material things. If one meditates on a formless all-pervading God, or if without any spiritual love one offers namaz prayers or other prayers, then how is that different from worshiping a cat? It is our idea that one should do whatever is necessary to arouse one's love for God. If those neophytes are mocked or attacked, then the path of gradual spiritual advancement will be blocked. Dogmatic people refuse to honor the followers of other religions. They mock and attack others who do not worship in the same way they do. They make a great mistake.

Mullah: Should it then be said that everything is God, and the worship of anything is the worship of God? Is the worship of sins worship of God? Is the worship of sinful desires worship of God? Is God pleased by any kind of worship?

Goracanda: We do not say that everything is God. Rather, God is different from all else. Everything is created by God and dependent on Him. Everything has a relationship with God. By following the thread of that relationship, any thing may lead one to become curious about God. Therefore the sutra says:

"Curiosity pushes one to taste things."

Therefore this kind of curiosity gradually pushes one to try to experience what is spirit. You are all great panditas. If you are merciful and generous, you will understand what is the truth of this. We are only poor Vaishnavas. We do not like to enter into debates. If you give permission, we will now hear the musical play Shri Chaitanya-mangala.

No one could understand what conclusion the mullah came to by hearing these arguments. After a short silence he said, "I am glad to hear your arguments. I will come on another day and ask about something else. Now it is late. We wish to return to our homes. After speaking these words, the mullah sahib and his followers mounted their horses and left for Satasaika Paragana. The babajis happily called out the holy names of Lord Hari, and entered the temple to hear the play Shri Chaitanya-mangala.

Servants of the Lord are actually the servants of society

Thought-a-Week

The servants of the Lord are actually the servants of society…They are interested in imparting knowledge of the relationship of the living being with the Supreme Lord, the activities in that transcendental relationship, and the ultimate goal of human life. That is the real knowledge, which can help society achieve the real aim of human welfare.

KKSblog.com - The beauty of Krishna Consciousness

The beauty of Krishna Consciousness

Posted: 19 Sep 2011 04:06 PM PDT

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, 2004)

You see a beautiful flower and in Krishna Consciousness this is not a problem, because we can fully appreciate it:

"Look at the beauty of this flower. Look at the amazing colours, and the way it is shaped. The smell is also wonderful!"

We can fully enjoy it because we simply offer it to Krishna. So Srila Rupa Goswami says in 'The Nectar of Devotion' book, chapter 14:

" That if one still has the desire to enjoy, then one simply should enjoy all the enjoyable things in relation to Krishna!"

So whatever things are related to Krishna are enjoyable – we can enjoy those! So it's not that we have to give up anything, we can enjoy!

Changing the world!

Posted: 19 Sep 2011 04:00 PM PDT

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, 2004)

Five hundred million of Prabhupada's books have been distributed now. They are already changing the world! Sometimes you see these things like the Microsoft clip of the child that flew out of the womb of his mother's. He just flies to the sky and turns old on the way and then descends into the grave:

'Where did they get that from?'

That's from Prabhupada's books…that's clear. Many people read Prabhupada's books. They don't tell artists that they love to read such books, because it will give them new ideas.

Politicians read them, and so does Sai Baba. Sai Baba reads Prabhupada's books. Oh yes! I saw some little brochure from Sai Baba and I could see that he read Prabhupada's books. He was claiming to be all that and Prabhupada's books was giving a list of what he Supreme Personality of Godhead should be. So Sai Baba claimed:

"Yes I'm all that!"

It is very clear that he was reading Prabhupada's books!

Please tell me why you uselessly adore and worship such false things in this world?

Oh my dear mind, please tell me why you uselessly adore and worship such false things in this world? This material world is simply composed of five gross elements: earth, water, fire, air & ether, but the pure spirit soul somehow wants to keep himself in a most degraded condition of abject ruination by remaining within this unfathomable ocean of inauspiciousness.

The spirit soul actually lives beyond these five gross elements, and he is always spotlessly pure, devoid of material designations, and abounds in auspicious spiritual happiness. He is certainly a fit receptacle for pure love of Godhead, which is beyond the range of maya's illusions. Oh my dear mind, my dear friend! You are meant to be situated in pure transcendental existence as pure spirit soul, so I ask you now—why do you become enchanted and captivated again and again within this dull material universe?

Just become a little introspective for once, and try to keep in mind the fact that a pure spirit soul is actually eternal and full of nectar. Such intelligent judgements are quite befitting you. Reassuming your real form as pure soul, just remain always in Vrndavana under the shelter of Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.

Make the worship of the Divine Couple your only object of pursuit. And in the company of Their most dear cowherd girlfriends and maidservants, just perform transcendentally joyful service unto Their pastimes for all of eternity. I am not able to predict the destination of those foolish souls who dare to neglect such a treasure as this conjugal service.

Reading from the Kalyana Kalpataru this evening I found this most beautiful jewel by Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura and somehow I felt compelled to share it with all that can hear... please relish on this nectar

Acknowledging Krishna's Favour

Now I am living in my body. If there is pain here, I can understand,
"Here is pain." But if there is some pain in your body, I cannot
understand. Therefore I am different from you. But Krsna can
understand what is pain or pleasure in my body, and what is pain or
pleasure in your body and everyone's body. That is Krsna.
Sarva-ksetresu.

That is God, not that, simply by claiming, "I am God. I am the same
God." And how you claim God? Can you tell what I was thinking? Can you
tell what he is thinking? No. Then how... What kind of God you are?
Don't accept a cheap God. These are the symptoms of God. Adv aitam
acyutam anadim ananta-rupam [Bs. 5.33]. He has got ananta,
unlimited... There are unlimited living entities. In the Vedas it is
stated, nityo nityanam cetanas cetananam (Katha Upanisad 2.2.13):
"There are unlimited living entities, unlimited eternals. But there is
one, another, one supreme eternal, supreme entity."

What is the difference between this, the unlimited number, or plural
number, and one singular number? That is also answered. Eko bahunam yo
vidadhati kaman: "That singular number one entity is supplying the,
all the necessities of all the plural number living entities." We are
plural number entities. The living entities, we are plural number.
Nityo nityanam. This nityanam is plural number, possessive case, in
Sanskrit. And He is nitya. He is one, singular number. Eko bahunam
vidadhati kaman: "That one is supplying the necessities of all living
entities."

Don't we see how God is supplying all the necessities of birds,
beasts, and everyone? Ours also. We don't acknowledge. Because we are
civilized, we are, we do not acknowledge. The birds, beasts also do
not acknowledge, but because they are birds and beasts. So we are just
becoming like birds and beasts, denying the existence of God, denying
the authority of God.

We are taking advantage. Vidadhati kaman. If Krsna does not supply us
this light, sunlight, we will die. But He does not charge anything.
But because we are human being, we should try to repay: "Oh, Krsna is
giving us so much facilities. Let me render some service unto Him."
This is Krsna consciousness. This is to acknowledge, "O God, You are
so kind. You are giving so many things. So I have collected this
fruit. It is Your fruit, I know. Still, please accept." This is
finish, your business. You are a great devotee. You are a great Krsna
conscious personality, and Krsna says, patram puspam phalam toyam yo
me bhaktya prayacchati [Bg. 9.26]. Krsna does not want from you, very
nice thing. Krsna is complete in Himself. He can produce many, many
nice things. He is not begging, but still, He is expecting something
from you because He is supplying so many things to you. Is it not?

Suppose if you have got a friend, you always give him. Don't you
expect something: "Oh, I give so many things to my friend. He does not
offer me anything?"? Don't you feel, out of love? Father, mother, they
do so many things for the children. If the children do not do anything
for the father and mother, are they not happy? Are they happy? No.
They are unhappy: "My children are so ungrateful."

Although He does not want -- Krsna is full in Himself -- but if we
supply something to Krsna... Krsna's good is to be supplied to Krsna.
The fruit is not produced by you. Krsna says, patram puspam phalam
toyam yo me bhaktya prayacchati: [Bg. 9.26] "Anyone who offers Me a
little fruit, a little water, and little leaf, oh, I accept." Tad aham
asnami, bhakty-upahrtam: "Because he has brought with the devotion and
love, I accept it." If Krsna accepts your offering, then your life
becomes sublime. That is Krsna consciousness.

Simply we should have to acknowledge. We are getting so many
facilities from Krsna. He is sitting within your heart, He is
supplying you all necessities, He is giving you sunlight, He is giving
you rainy, seasonal rains, fruits, flowers, grains, and we are so
ungrateful that we do not acknowledge?

So try to understand in this way Krsna consciousness, God
consciousness. Then your dormant relationship with God and Krsna will
be revived. Ceto-darpana-marjanam [Cc. Antya 20.12]. Lord Caitanya
says, "By revival of Krsna consciousness means the dirty things
accumulated on our heart will be dissipated, immediately vanished."
Then we shall see, "Oh, this is my position. I am Krsna's, and Krsna is mine."

KKSblog.com - The dictates of the body

The dictates of the body

Posted: 16 Sep 2011 04:49 PM PDT

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, Finland, 2011)

We should understand that we are all caught here in our material bodies, and that the material bodies are dictating so many desires to us, when all these desires are not actually ours….but we are faithfully accepting them as ours!

"This is my desires".

And we think so many times like this, but the fact of the matter is that, these are the dictates of the body. Just as a simple example of when I was ten years old, I couldn't wait for my best friend to come and ring the doorbell and ask for me to come and play outside. If that were to happen now then he would be ring the doorbell and say:

"Maharaja, come, let's go play outside"..

And I would look at him and think:

"Too much sun, or something like that".

That is a fact, that we change, and our needs change very much and with it these are simply dictates of the body!

Prabhupada's society

Posted: 16 Sep 2011 03:20 PM PDT

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, Finland, 2011)

Srila Prabhupada had created quite an elaborate support structure. He created a network of temples around the world! In 1966 he created the International Society for Krishna Consciousness.

There was a program in the 'Matchless Gifts' storefront, and suddenly, one man in a suit (who was also there) stood up and Prabhupada introduced him as a lawyer. The lawyer had a document for starting the International Society for Krishna Consciousness. They needed some volunteers to sign all the documents. So everyone was looking and thinking:

"What is this?"

I mean they were all hippies and were looking at the lawyer and thinking:

"What is all this….a lawyer…..a document….and a society?"

But Prabhupada really wanted it. So okay there were a few that volunteered to sign. Prabhupada's society was a fact. Since that time we have found that many devotees have faithfully taken up service in Prabhupada's institution, and they also faithfully worked to maintain, Prabhupada's institution!

Four days in Durban

Posted: 16 Sep 2011 08:02 AM PDT

Kadamba Kanana Maharaja left Munich on Monday noon to fly off to Johannesburg via England. Arriving there the next morning, he immediately flew to Durban, where he was to stay for four days. These days were filled with a whole variety of programs…..!!!

On Wednesday Maharaja started off with a Srimad Bhagavatam class, which he ended early due to an appointment at the Indian embassy. Later in the day he rocked the students at a local university program with a flying kirtana, followed by an inspiring talk about overcoming the bad qualities in ourselves by chanting the Maha Mantra. In the evening he then visited the nama hata program in Umlazi, an African township area in Durban, again leading a full swing kirtana and giving a talk about real solutions for the suffering in this world, both on a material and a spiritual level.

On Thursday then, there was another short university program at noon time. Then in the evening, Maharaja went to Krsna Charana's house, whose daughter had a 5th year birthday party, with Maharaja and Bhakti Caitanya Maharaja as her special guests! It was a colorful program, filled with bhajanas, a speech, theater and cake! Enjoy the pictures!

A few more days in Germany

Posted: 16 Sep 2011 07:34 AM PDT

Before his big trip to South Africa, Australia and India, Kadamba Kanana Maharaja spent a few more days in Munich, from where he eventually also flew off to Johannesburg. In Munich Maharaja gave the Srimad Bhagavatam and Bhagavad Gita classes and gave a talk at the weekly sunday feast program. It was a more or less calm stay, suitable to prepare for the upcoming journey. Enjoy the pictures!

We can only desire but the Lord only can fulfill that with His potency, Be it material or spiritual

Everything is working under the purview of the Supreme Lord. And there is not one single atom in this Universe without His supervision. All we have to do is only desire with greed to serve Him. We can only desire, He is the actual person who is executing it on our behalf, for not single blade of grass moves without His consent&His energies. And we have to understand how to live in harmony with His energies and also in a way that pleases Him...

KKSblog.com - Woodstock

Woodstock

Posted: 15 Sep 2011 04:28 PM PDT

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, Finland, 2011)

I went to Woodstock, and there in amidst of four thousand hippies who were all there, I saw all kinds of people. They had a pipe in the middle, and there was water coming out like a fountain. There was a really big fat man, who was wearing only swimming trousers or shorts or something like that. This man was lying in the mud and rolling in it. He was covered in mud. I have never seen a human being look more like a pig than him! He was literally big and fat and rolling in the mud. I thought:

"Where am I?"

Then I was in the village of peace with Indradyumna Maharaja, and suddenly Jagai and Madhai walked in, out of nowhere. Madhai was wearing a crown made from a cardboard box, and he had put wine bottles in the crown. There were all series of wine bottles like a crown on his head. And Jagai had his dreadlocks tied to empty beer cans. So he had a load of empty beer cans.

So they were walking in and they couldn't walk straight. They came in and I wanted to give them a contract. I thought:

"I'm going to sign these guys in the play and hire them as Jagai and Madhai".

I have never seen such good Jagai and Madhais like that – they were the best. About fifteen minutes later I saw them with a plate of prasadam and they were feeding each other! They were taking a bite from the papadum. It was already clear that Lord Caitanya's movement had already got them, because even if you just serve the holy name; even if you partake in the sankirtan; even if you don't chant; even if you do a little sewa….serving the holy name is already giving benefits!

Hi to Krishna,Bye to Maya!

Just like a building has pillars in cross section and in vertical
sections, our body has quite a lot of bones supporting the muscle&skin.
The building has no soul&doesnt move but our body is possessed by its
owner, the soul.So the body appears to be the self with life.
The elements of our body are the same inferior things.Beautiful or
ugly, skinny or fluffy, dark or fair complexioned, tall or short.
Regardless of all these differences,it smells miserable.Even though
everyone knows this well,we get attracted to beautiful form.A wife
even though ugly appears beautiful in the eyes of husband and
vice-versa.This attraction is because of the lust which covers the
soul. That's the power of illusory energy. From hell to heaven, all the
residents of all planetary systems are suffering with this disease
only.
The material body is made of material elements earth water fire air
ether. We can only understand these things being bound by the body
now. So the Lord mercifully comes as deities(Spiritual form in
material elements) to attract the sinful living entities who are
suffering by their attraction to beautiful forms.
We would have heard many people saying ISKCON temples have beautiful
forms of the Lord. And this is the reason why Srila Prabhupada
built so many temples to attract the conditioned souls back to
Krishna. And make them say bye to Maya! :)

More material enjoyment = More frustration

The more we engage ourselves in mundane activities, the more we get
frustrated. And when we get frustrated again we'll not stay quiet but
will find some means to overcome that. Illusory energy calls by then
and says why dont you enjoy all that's in front of you. We would've
already been maddened by our frustration and we will give way for our
madness and the result is even more frustration.
This world is designed in a fashion that one gets frustration in life.
Everyone knows it's difficult to Live in this world. But no one knows
How to get out of it. So intelligent persons do not take part in the
sources of misery, knowing well they have a beginning and an end.
Therefore, the best fortune for the living beings is to give up the
material enjoyment causing suffering&take up the cause of enjoyment,
Devotional Service to Lord Sri Krishna.

KKSblog.com - Imagine the dancing of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu! - Worth Reading...

Imagine the dancing of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu!

Posted: 14 Sep 2011 04:27 PM PDT

(Kadamba Kanna Swami, Finland, 2011)

Whenever we serve Lord Jagannath, it brings us beyond our limits. You can think:

"Well, this time I will not go completely crazy, in the Ratha Yatra".

Forget it! You will go completely crazy, and that's the nature of the Ratha Yatra. Lord Jagannath, somehow or other takes us to our limits….through our limits, and there are also no limits to how much service that Jagannath is able to receive.

Ratha Yatra, Lord Caitanya and His movement – they are very intimately connected. Of course, Lord Caitanya (in Jagannath Puri)for many years was performing Ratha Yatra. Actually it was six years in a row that Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu was performing Ratha Yatra, and later on He took twelve years in Jagannath Puri, and He was too ecstatic to deal with such things, which was another matter.

For six years Lord Caitanya was just dancing in the Ratha Yatra, which was inconceivable. He would throw himself high in the air, without considering how He would come down! Sometimes in his ecstasy He would crash to the ground – full on! He'd jump really high and would just crash on the ground! And everyone was thinking:

"His ribs would crash and completely break!"

But that didn't happen, and then he would jump straight back up and continued dancing…..and do it again! So Nityananda started to catch Him. As He was going down Nityananda was there catching Him! Lord Caitanya would jump so high…way above the crowd, who were just looking in amazement.

He would start spinning around in circles. He would go so extremely fast that it was compared to a firebrand (lets say a red hot piece of wood, and if you moved it very fast then it just looks like a closed circle of fire). Sir Caitanya Mahaprabhu was moving so fast that it just looked like a closed circle.

So who could imagine the dancing of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu?

Spontaneous devotional service Part 3

Posted: 14 Sep 2011 03:39 PM PDT

(Kadamba Kanna Swami, Finland, 2011)

The animals in Vrindavan and in the holy dhams are also devotees and they are very much on the spontaneous platform. I have seen many extraordinary things with animals in the dhams.

In Vrindavan we would take prasadam in the temple and then they were carrying the buckets from the kitchen to the main entrance of the temple. Just as they were carrying the bucket, this bird made a total attack and went straight for the sweet rice! Just flied half through it with mouth wide open!

I have never seen anything like it, but only in Vrindavan. Such eagerness….really. While we were taking prasadam we had a net which covered the courtyard of the temple to keep out the monkeys! But there was also the tamal tree in the courtyard of the temple. The tamal tree had broken a little bit of the net. So one monkey got in, whilst the devotees were almost finished taking the prasadam. Most devotees had left by then, so the monkey came down and sat on the mats in front of the empty plate. What to do? So we just served the monkey, who nicely took the prasadam, and then left!

That was not an ordinary monkey – it's very clear in Vrindavan, but all on the spontaneous platform. So gradually more and more devotional service must become spontaneous, because Krishna is so nice! Yes, we'll make a flower garland for him because He is so nice – not because we have to, but because we want to! We will go and find some forest flowers and do it, somehow or other for Krishna!
