The 5 levels of ego

Within the body there are five different departments of existence, known as anna-maya, prana-maya, mano-maya, vijnana-maya, and at last ananda-maya. These are enumerated in the Brahmananda-valli of the Taittiriya Upanishad. In the beginning of life, every living entity is food conscious. A child or an animal is satisfied only by getting nice food. This stage of consciousness, in which the goal is to eat sumptuously, is called anna-maya. Anna means 'food.' After this one lives in the consciousness of being alive. If one can continue his life without being attacked or destroyed, one thinks himself happy. This stage is called prana-maya, or consciousness of one's existence. After this stage, when one is situated on the mental platform, that consciousness is called mano-maya. The material civilization is primarily situated in these three stages -- anna-maya, prana-maya and mano-maya. The first concern of civilized persons is economic development, the next concern is defense against being annihilated, and the next consciousness is mental speculation, the philosophical approach to the values of life.

If by the evolutionary process of philosophical life one happens to reach to the platform of intellectual life and understands that he is not this material body, but is a spirit soul, one is situated in the vijnana-maya stage. Then by evolution of spiritual life he comes to understand the Supreme Lord, or the Supreme Soul. When one develops his relationship with Him and executes devotional service, that stage of life is called Krishna consciousness, the ananda-maya stage. Ananda-maya is the blissful life of knowledge and eternity. As long as the living entities are situated in the lower four stages of life -- anna-maya, prana-maya, mano-maya and vijnana-maya -- they are considered to be in the material condition of life, but as soon as one reaches the stage of ananda-maya he becomes a liberated soul.

Matter comes from spirit - life comes from life not from void

The Mahat Tattva -The Total cosmic material/matter comes from Maha Vishnu in the beginning of creation of this material cosmos. Just as a person comes in contact with a fragrance of the flower without even physical contact, the Supreme Lord impregnates the Mahat by His mere glance and Universes are created. Garbhodakasayi Vishnu enters as the soul of each material universe and maintains it. Ksirodakasayi Vishnu enters into each atom and pervades the Universe. He becomes the smallest in size that He enters even into the smallest individual soul to maintain them.

This is the origin of Universe according to the Vedic scriptures. Not big bang theory which speculates that the hot gases becoming cold after million yearand suddenly all wonderful universes and people are there. These are childish thoughts from so called scientists.

Intelligent people can ask a question like where did the hot gases initially come from? There is no starting point for these bluffers to begin with. We are fooled right from our school days in text books with these speculations.

Best Regards,
Dinesh

The cycle of sacrifice

The cycle of sacrifice: those who perform activities as per the Vedic rules and regulations will attain heavenly planets, enjoy celestial pleasure for 10,000 celestial years and when the pious credits are finished, they fall down to earth by rain, enter into grain, the food of man, transformed into semen and impregnates the woman to again continue the sacrifice through a new born.

Message from Srila Gurumaharaj

My Dear Spiritual Children, Siksa Disciples, well-wishers and other devotees who are helping me and are being helped by me,

Please accept my best wishes and blessings. All glories to His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.

I have been wanting to send out a letter to all of you every month, but somehow this has always been delayed. As such, some months have gone by. I will try to catch up.

This year we went on safari to North Bengal, Assam and Tripura. Then we went back to Mayapur for Ram Navami festival after which some devotees observed my Vyasa-Puja. Then I went to the Indian National Meetings, ICC, Advisory Council and Bureau.

From the start of this Gaurabda or our Gaudiya Vaisnava new year, we have been looking ahead at next year's Gaura Purnima Festival 2014 in Sri Mayapur. We are scheduled to have the ILS or ISKCON Leadership Sanga at the beginning of the 2014 festival. We then have the Sankirtan Mela. As usual every five years, there is a Maha Abhiseka of Panchatattva Deities and that is also set for 2014. Thereafter, there is our Navadvipa Mandala Parikrama, but 2014 is special because it would be the 25th year anniversary of the Parikrama. I am thinking of several special additions for the parikrama. One is visiting a new place. Others are surprises! All this culminates at the Gaura Purnima of 2014, after which, for the safari goers, we intend to visit Bangladesh, which is always very ecstatic because the Bangladesh people always receive the devotees with great enthusiasm. To accomplish all this we have to make many preparations and so from the beginning of this Gaurabda we are busy preparing Sri Mayapur for the influx of new devotees. There are some special plans
ahead.

I would like to see all you devotees, but it is not possible for me to travel all of the places I used to. I can only visit some places. We intend to plan that in the future, devotees would be able to see me either in Mayapur, or in the different continents. The preoccupation I now have is how all of you can go back to Godhead in this lifetime. If I can get you all back to Srila Prabhupada, then I am sure you will all reach the spiritual world. Disciples of other gurus, if I can help them to get back to Srila Prabhupada, I am sure you will all reach the spiritual world. There are two factors. One is to maintain spiritual life by chanting, by following regulative principles and by doing sadhana bhakti. The second is to gradually increase and improve our devotional service. It means each devotee has to be very responsible to perform their Krsna Consciousness in a very regulated and progressive way. I hope that you will all be chanting and increasing your devotional service in a responsible way. Those who are grihasthas, should along with their spouses engage in devotional service and see that their children also become Krsna Conscious. Those who are brahmacaris, vanaprasthas or sannyasis should think how they can utilize every thought, every word and every deed in Krsna's service.

I am keeping this short. My best wishes to all of you.

Your well wisher always,
Jayapataka Swami

Krishna is banging the big bang theory!!!

Bhagavad Gita#10.8

ahaà sarvasya prabhavo

mattaù sarvam pravartate

iti matvä bhajante mäm

budhä bhäva-samanvitäh

I am the source of all spiritual and material worlds. Everything emanates from Me.

The wise who perfectly know this engage in My devotional service and worship Me with all their hearts.

- Foolish men are trying to speculate the source of everything and because of their inability to find anything with their blunt senses they are coming to a conclusion that everything comes from nothing. Their eyes are full of cataract and they need to be operated to make them see properly. Bring them to me I will operate their eyes ;-)

The lost beauty

No matter how hard we try to keep our youthfulness and beauty, eventually it will be stolen by the time factor.
Even though this is a fact everyone of us want to be eternally happy and youthful because it is the innate nature of the soul.
But because matter is temporary, it is basically a big incompatibility for us, souls to base everything based on our bodily needs and wants.

This is the primary reason for our disappointments in life and not God. We think God has to serve our desires when we worship Him.
But it is we who have to fulfill the desires of God for our own Good and happiness.

The Health Benefits of Drinking Water

The Health Benefits of Drinking Water

Water is a simple and essential element for your body. Did you know that drinking enough water benefits your health?

The body is made up of between 55 and 75 percent water. Muscle retains more water than fat, therefore, the leaner the body, the higher the percentage of water. Water is essential to regulate body temperature, provide lubrication for joints, help blood flow, regulate blood pressure, keep body systems functioning properly and keepskin elastic. Nearly every cell in our body requires water for proper function. Water is also necessary for digestion and the removal of toxins. Water keeps the liver and kidneys functioning well. Inadequate hydration can also cause sluggishness and headache due to a decreased flow of blood to the brain.

If you are trying to lose weight, water is useful to help you feel fuller, metabolize stored fat, and prevent water retention. Although preventing water retention by drinking more does not seem to make sense, it is actually true. When you do not drink enough water, your body goes into 'survival mode', retaining water to stay off dehydration. This causes water weight gain, as well as health problems.

Most people who do not drink enough water on a daily basis have a diminished ability to feel thirst. By the time thirst is felt, the body is already dehydrated. Once you begin drinking water daily, you will notice feeling thirst more often. The body requires at least six to eight, 8 ounce glasses of water a day. A good formula to know how much water is needed is to divide your weight in half, and figure that number in ounces of water. For example, for someone who weighs 140 pounds, 70 ounces of water would be required daily.

Steps to becoming brave

Steps to becoming brave

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, 15 December 2012, Phoenix Ratha Yatra, South Africa, Q&A Lecture)
taking stepsWell, I have been thinking about a metaphor. I call it the step-by-step metaphor. In material life, we have two steps, two feet in the world. As long as we have our two feet in this world, we get very preoccupied with all the affairs that surround us and everything seems terribly important so we always go from one important activity into another one.
When young, education is important. Later on, fashion is important. In every phase of life, everything is important. So, when our two feet are in the material world, then material life is extremely important. From one issue, we go into another and there’s always something burning and of great urgency and importance.
Then, into our life, comes a self-realized soul and by the association of such a devotee, we are suddenly struck with a totally different dimension… struck that there is a whole different dimension to life… a spiritual dimension and gradually… the spiritual world. Not just a little bit of religion in the form of spicing but actually a whole life of devotion as Prabhupada kind of painted it for us.
Suddenly, it kind of reawakens something in us… something that had gone to sleep… something we forgot but suddenly within us, there is a calling. Suddenly we feel called, and we feel like, “Yes, deep down inside, this is actually what I really want it.” And just on a emotional level, we feel strongly drawn to a spiritual life but then it has to become practical and one thinks, “Nah, it doesn’t make sense. I have so many important things to do!”
tumblr_ma1kfw6qI31rt9oreo1_1280But that spiritual dimension has entered; that taste has come. At this stage, we are hesitatingly putting our leg forward, not yet on the ground, but we’ve lifted one leg off the ground. It’s floating. So, our spiritual life is sort of up in the air at that stage, but we are not completely on the material footing anymore. Then gradually… alright, we put a toe on the ground as if to sort of check it out; what is it like actually, toe in the water. We check out spiritual life a little bit, still not making commitments. Oh no. You know, don’t get carried away now! We’re not making commitments. I mean, really! We’re just experimenting, yes, a little, it’s a toe. In due course of time, our spiritual life becomes a little bit more established, becomes in a more solid way, part of our life and yes, we put the foot on the ground but the weight is still on the material side.
So, all the weight remains on the material side and now, gradually, in our spiritual life, we have to make a shift where the weight actually starts to come onto the spiritual leg and it’s at that stage that there is a real breakthrough! It is at that stage that a tangible transformation begins to take place. That is the stage which  acaryas have classified as niṣṭhā or firm determination. It is that stage where spiritual life has become the priority and material life is there and it has its importance but it’s of secondary importance to spiritual life.
Until we come to that stage, we will be fickle. Until we come to that stage, we cannot fix our mind. Until we come to that stage where the majority of the weight is on the spiritual leg. Some weight may be there, on the material leg as well, but the majority is on the spiritual leg. At that stage, we take care of our material duties but see them as a secondary life.
srila13 (1)It is that which Srila Prabhupada really wanted for us. Not anything less, nothing less. That was really his idea. When Prabhupada said that the devotees should become at least a madhyama-adhikārī or a devotee on the intermediate platform, then that’s what it means because in the intermediate stage, one comes to niṣṭhā. Up to niṣṭhāis the kaniṣṭha stage. So, there’s kaniṣṭha and then niṣṭhāKaniṣṭhais the initial stage in devotional service, the stage of weak faith.Kaniṣṭha translates as weak faith. So it’s the faith where we are not really convinced. It is said śraddhā’-śabde — viśvāsa kahe sudṛḍha niścaya kṛṣṇe bhakti kaile sarva-karma kṛta haya (CC Madhya 22.62).
Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu gave the definition of faith. The way he gave the definition of faith - he said that it is faith that when we engage in devotional service to Krsna, that all good will come in our life; that all good will come from that. That faith one must have. That must be very strong. So yes, that is not so simple, it seems. And on the other hand, simple, simple for the brave. One must be brave.

Many gurus

Many gurus

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, 28 April 2013, Radhadesh, Belgium, Vyasa Puja, Questions and answers)
GBCRelationships that are of a deep nature between vaishnavas, that are affecting one’s entire spiritual life and that have a binding effect on one’s spiritual life – such relationships can develop intodiksha or siksha-guru type of relationships.
There’s incidental siksha - maybe some senior vaishnava gives some instruction. We have faith in it, take it, but for the rest, it doesn’t affect our life.
Those relationships that have a deep, lasting effect on our lives, such relationships can go on eternally after this life, whether diksha orsiksha. Therefore, one can have many gurus. Once we arrive in the spiritual world, we may find that there are many gurus who have somewhere along the line, been part of our lives and we remain indebted to them, eternally so. The indebtedness is never paid off!

The path of progress

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, 24 June 2013, Czech Summer Camp, Slovakia, Srimad Bhagavatam 8.2.33)
flowersWe have to look at our life from a perspective as a whole and not just become lost in the moment, “Oh, romantic springtime. Oh, beautiful daffodils and sweet fragrant flowers. Oh, wonderful valleys. Oh, enjoyment in the material world.”
For a while, even when we are enjoying in the material world, it is still not fulfilling. There is enjoyment but it is not enough to fill the emptiness in our heart. But, if we want some, then that is authorized in the Srimad Bhagavatam but within the boundaries of pious life. Not that we enjoy in a sinful way because if we enjoy in a sinful way then we become very much tied up in sinful reactions!
So, those who wish to enjoy the senses are allowed to but within the boundaries of what is authorized. If we desire sexual activities then we must express it in a responsible way. If we want to express our sex desire then marriage is the option. “What do you do? What do you do when you suddenly get attacked by a strong sex desire? What do you do?”
Best is (to do) nothing - that is the best option! But if we feel that we have to do something then it must be done in an authorized way because if we are doing it in an unauthorized, sinful way then we are bound to material existence, and bound to suffering conditions. So, anyone who is somehow or other breaking the rules of scriptures, is binding himself in the future sufferings of the material world. This is foolishness.
So therefore, we must take shelter, as it is mentioned here, we must take shelter of the principles ofdharma. In the Srimad Bhagavatam, it is indicated that a man, if he so desires, may get married. Then it is described that the wife is like a fort and that he just focuses himself on this one wife and no other one – only this one, with all the good and bad! And then, there (within marriage) he may satisfy his material desires according to the direction of the scriptures. Then this relationship will actually protect him from lust otherwise lust can drop us in all kinds of directions where we should not really go. So in this way, whatever we do in life, we must always be on the path of progress.
etāvaj janma-sāphalyaṁ
dehinām iha dehiṣu
prāṇair arthair dhiyā vācā
śreya-ācaraṇaṁ sadā, (Srimad Bhagavatam 10.22.35; CC Adi-Lila 9.42)
We should always act according to śreya. So śreya means the long-term benefit, the path of progress. Somehow or other, this path of progress must be on our mind.

Changing ashram

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, 24 June 2013, Czech Summer Camp, Slovakia. Srimad Bhagavatam 8.2.33)
CartwheelsSometimes, a household life is compared to a deep dark well, in the scriptures. So it maybe that one is a brahmacari orbrahmacarini and then one feels, “I cannot do this anymore. It is time to get married.”
Some people, when they get married, they go to a deep dark well and they dive in head first! They think that, “Oh, now I am changing ashram, now I am really going to do it and go straight down to the bottom.”But that is not intelligent.
Generally speaking, in these wells – I have seen many in India – they usually have some brackets inside that are made like levers so that maintenance work can be done. So there is no need to go to the bottom; one can keep a strong spiritual culture. In fact, that is the idea, that in the brahmacari or brahmacarini ashram we are cultivating good spiritual habits and then we maintain them in our household attachment. Because after all, we do not forget the long-term goal. All right, we want something in this life but, we cannot risk that we lose our opportunity for going back to godhead.
In some letters or in some other occasions when speaking about the household ashram, Srila Prahbupada made statements like, “Fifty percent less chance of going back to godhead,” or sometimes even stronger statements. So what can we say? The grhasta ashram is also meant for going back to godhead, all theashrams are meant for that purpose and that is what we are doing.
Yesterday we had initiations but initiation into what!? Initiation into the process that takes us back to godhead! So that should be our result. We should always act in such a way that we are faithfully on the path back to godhead, from the very beginning of spiritual life.
When we are new and when we accept the four regulative principles, sixteen rounds, we are under the directions of the spiritual master and other spiritual authorities, then we are on the path back to godhead and we must stay there our whole life - no detours in the forest or in the hills, no vacations. No we must stay within the boundaries of Krsna consciousness.

Moscow Temple Ordered to Close

Hare Krishna,
Very sorrowful news.

Hare Krsna,
PAMHO.
All Glories To Srila Gurudeva and Srila Prabupada. Pls kindly pray for the Moscow devotees.
Moscow ISKCON Temple now Ordered Closed
by Court Order
BY: MOSCOW CORRESPONDENT

Jul 14, 2013 — MOSCOW, RUSSIA (SUN) — Moscow ISKCON Temple now ordered closed in ten days by Moscow City Government's final court decision.
After many so many past close calls and demands for closure, with many previous demands for closure delayed, the final decision was made by the Moscow government, city officials and the courts, ordering the ISKCON Moscow temple closed in a brief ten's days time. An impossible feat.

The Moscow devotees are ordered to immediately vacate the original Moscow land given to them by the Moscow government to build their temple. It was a gift to them, but was revoked/canceled by them). Now, four days ago, the final court decision has brought this drama to a sad end for ISKCON Moscow. The ISKCON Moscow temple must leave its current, formally donated location.

This has come as a complete unexpected surprise to the Moscow ISKCON devotees, who were not at all given enough time to move from there by officials. There are many temporary structures and Temple altar/kitchens there. Moving is a costly and time consuming task, which will take many weeks to do. Ten days is not enough time warning time given to ISKCON Moscow. This is tragic, inconsiderate and awful.
Suddenly, an unannounced government official came to the temple to deliver the final irrevocable court decision to end Moscow ISKCON Temple's right to exist there. It is an extreme order for them to vacate the temple within the next ten days time, or to face certain extreme actions from the city officials against them.

To make matters even worse and insulting for the Russian devotees, Moscow ISKCON will now sadly face a 7 million ruble fine, and also bulldozers to knock down the temple building and its brahamacari ashrams and temple offices. There is also a huge, expensive pandal adjacent to the temple, a professional tent used year round for many visiting gurus and seniors devotees as well as important huge festivals, now also in danger of being destroyed by the city officials.

This comes at the same time when, in just a short time, the biggest festival of the Moscow Russian Yatra is to be held: Sri Krsna Janmastami and Srila Prabhupada's Appearance day programs will be crippled severely, as there will be no place now to hold it.

The ten day ultimatum to vacate the temple and move out is an impossible deadline, as more time will be needed to dissemble the massive tent and buildings, what to speak of relocating the presiding Deities, Sri Sri Dayal Nitai Sachi Suta, Sri Sri Gaura Nitai Dieties Who will be rendered homeless soon by this heavy action, suddenly and ruthlessly enforced by the Moscow City government officials.

At this time, I ask ALL ISKCON Temples and devotees to search their hearts and souls and understand how serious this is, and how Srila Prabhupada would have expected actions and help from our entire ISKCON Society for Moscow ISKCON. Please understand the very great need now of coming forward and helping Srila Prabhupada's Russian devotees in their time of grave danger and need. It's a sincere call to rescue the ISKCON Moscow Temple project.
This is an URGENT appeal to all GBC members, and I humbly ask all ISKCON Temples, all over the world to come forward with help for Moscow ISKCON in this grave crisis situation.

Thank You
All Glories to Srila Prabhupada
All Glories to the Russian devotees
