We have made sense enjoyment, the highest priority today!!!

In the lower stages of human civilization, there is always competition to lord it over the material nature or, in other words, there is a continuous rivalry to satisfy the senses. Driven by such consciousness, man turns to religion. He thus performs pious activities or religious functions in order to gain something material. But if such material gains are obtainable in other ways, then so-called religion is neglected. This is the situation in modern civilization. Man is thriving economically, so at present he is not very interested in religion. Churches, mosques or temples are now practically vacant. Men are more interested in factories, shops, and cinemas than in religious places which were erected by their forefathers. This practically proves that religion is performed for some economic gains. Economic gains are needed for sense gratification. Often when one is baffled in the pursuit of sense gratification, he takes to salvation and tries to become one with the Supreme Lord. Consequently, all these states are simply different types of sense gratification

Women and wealth are very difficult problems for the devotee making progress on the path back to Godhead

One cannot enter into the kingdom of God unless one is perfectly cleared of all sins. The material sins are products of our desires to lord it over material nature. It is very difficult to get rid of such desires. Women and wealth are very difficult problems for the devotee making progress on the path back to Godhead. Many stalwarts in the devotional line fell victim to these allurements and thus retreated from the path of liberation. But when one is helped by the Lord Himself, the whole process becomes as easy as anything by the divine grace of the Lord.

The Lord is more anxious to take us back into His kingdom than we can desire

The Lord is reciprocally respondent to His devotees. When He sees that a devotee is completely sincere in getting admittance to the transcendental service of the Lord and has thus become eager to hear about Him, the Lord acts from within the devotee in such a way that the devotee may easily go back to Him. The Lord is more anxious to take us back into His kingdom than we can desire. Most of us do not desire at all to go back to Godhead. Only a very few men want to go back to Godhead. But anyone who desires to go back to Godhead, Śrī Kṛṣṇa helps in all respects.

Looking for Love?

Been looking for Love since aeons, but six men headed by the
chief, lust were always in guise of Love. These six men are very good
friends among themselves.Giving shelter to one of these
men(anger, madness, pride, greed, envy) will drag the rest as well to ruin
you. Now I am only,
Endeavoring to turn to listen to my Friend who always comes with me
wherever I go. I have disregarded Him from time immemorial not knowing
Him as my real well wisher, the Lover, the friend, the ability of the
able.
I did not know what is good for me. Even if I were told,I headed in a
direction in madness, that was not for my own good.
Had I been sincere enough to go back to Him,I would not have been here
by now in the midst of people who are killing themselves&others as
well.
He always made arrangements to take me back but I am stubborn of
enjoying the senses&remained in the worldly existence for countless
lives.
The momentum of the past habits are still in place.Only if You desire,
You can give me the ability to tolerate and become sincere in my
endeavors in serving You, O husband of the Goddess of fortune! This is
the prayer of this unfortunate being who is pretending to be in
Service of You!
Everyone in this world is looking for Love! But now it is contaminated
by the modes of passion, ignorance. Everyone from ant to Lord Brahma in
this Universe is bewildered by these modes.
Devotional Service to Krishna only revives the lost Love for
Krishna&all the living entities.

The Supreme Lord is Supremely Conscious! (knows/feels all of our pleasure/pain)

The chief engineer of a complicated construction does not personally take part in the construction, but he knows every nook and corner because everything is done under his direction. He knows everything about the construction, both directly and indirectly. Similarly, the Personality of Godhead, who is the supreme engineer of this cosmic creation, knows every nook and corner, although affairs are being carried out by demigods. Beginning from Brahmā down to the insignificant ant, no one is independent in the material creation. The hand of the Lord is seen everywhere. All material elements as well as all spiritual sparks emanate from Him only. And whatever is created in this material world is but the interaction of two energies, the material and the spiritual, which emanate from the Absolute Truth, the Personality of Godhead, Śrī Krsna.

Srimad Bhagavatam answers all questions!!!

It is natural that a philosophical mind wants to know about the origin of the creation. At night he sees the stars in the sky, and he naturally speculates about their inhabitants. Such inquiries are natural for man because man has a developed consciousness which is higher than that of the animals. The author of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam gives a direct answer to such inquiries. He says that the Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa is the origin of all creations. He is not only the creator of the universe, but the destroyer as well. The manifested cosmic nature is created at a certain period by the will of the Lord. It is maintained for some time, and then it is annihilated by His will. Therefore, the supreme will is behind all cosmic activities. Of course, there are atheists of various categories who do not believe in a creator, but that is due to a poor fund of knowledge. The modern scientist, for example, has created space satellites, and by some arrangement or other, these satellites are thrown into outer space to fly for some time at the control of the scientist who is far away. Similarly, all the universes with innumerable stars and planets are controlled by the intelligence of the Personality of Godhead.

KKSblog.com - Without chanting there is no life

Without chanting there is no life

Posted: 11 Jul 2011 01:56 PM PDT

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, 2005)

The cleansing of the heart has to be done through chanting Hare Krishna. That is our immediate connection to Krishna and it gives life…it is the life of all transcendental knowledge. Without the chanting there is no more life! The chanting gives new life to transcendental knowledge. This is the mercy of Caitanya Mahaprabhu, who teaches us that this chanting of Hare Krishna gives new life! So we should chant day and night…twenty four hours a day! That's the solution!

Time alone is awake when all others are asleep

Time perfects all living beings as well as kills them; it alone is awake when all others are asleep. Time is insurmountable.
-Chanakya Niti Shastra 6.7

The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: Time I am, the great destroyer of the worlds, and I have come here to destroy all people. With the exception of you [the Pandavas], all the soldiers here on both sides will be slain.

Although Arjuna knew that Krishna was his friend and the Supreme Personality of Godhead, he was puzzled by the various forms exhibited by Krishna. Therefore he asked further about the actual mission of this devastating force. It is written in the Vedas that the Supreme Truth destroys everything, even the brahmanas. As stated in the Katha Upanishad (1.2.25),

yasya brahma ca kshatram ca
ubhe bhavata odanah
mrityur yasyopasecanam
ka ittha veda yatra sah
Eventually all the brahmanas, kshatriyas and everyone else are devoured like a meal by the Supreme. This form of the Supreme Lord is the all-devouring giant, and here Krishna presents Himself in that form of all-devouring time. Except for a few Pandavas, everyone who was present on that battlefield would be devoured by Him. Arjuna was not in favor of the fight, and he thought it was better not to fight; then there would be no frustration. In reply, the Lord is saying that even if he did not fight, every one of them would be destroyed, for that was His plan. If Arjuna stopped fighting, they would die in another way. Death could not be checked, even if he did not fight. In fact, they were already dead. Time is destruction, and all manifestations are to be vanquished by the desire of the Supreme Lord. That is the law of nature.

Even one's intellect;functions as per the providence!!

As is the desire of Providence, so functions one's intellect; one's activities are also controlled by Providence; and by the will of Providence one is surrounded by helpers-Chanakya Niti Shastra - 6.6

Thats why we see that Ajamila even though a learned brahmana who knows the abominable actions, who can very well discriminate things falls for it. Our material desires or the vasanas from our previous lives are so strong that we never know when they will drown us. We'll never even be able to understand why we feel or desire abominable things. So we should always take shelter of the holy names of the Lord and the devotees of the Lord by all means and at all times.

I am wondering about this so much. Material Nature is working so perfectly under the supervision of the Supreme Lord. It's so subtle and intricate to understand as well.

Wise men?

Wise men spend their mornings in discussing gambling, the afternoon discussing the activities of women, and the night hearing about the activities of theft. (The first item above refers to the gambling of King Yudhisthira, the great devotee of Krsna. The second item refers to the glorious deeds of mother Sita, the consort of Lord Ramachandra. The third item hints at the adorable childhood pastimes of Sri Krsna who stole butter from the elderly cowherd ladies of Gokula. Hence Chanakya Pandita advises wise persons to spend the morning absorbed in Mahabharata, the afternoon studying Ramayana, and the evening devotedly hearing the Srimad-Bhagvatam.)

Sleeplessness!

Vidura said: Sleeplessness overtakes thief, a lustful person, him that has lost all his wealth, him that has failed to achieve success, and him also that is weak and has been attacked by a strong person. I hope, O king, that none of these grave calamities have overtaken thee. I hope, thou dost not grieve, coveting the wealth of others.(Vidura addresses to Dhritarashtra)

Why is it said in the vedas, that men live for 100 years, but is not so in reality?

Dhritarashtra said: Man has been spoken of in all the Vedas as having hundred years for the period of his life. For what reason then, do not all men attain the allotted period?

Vidura said: Excess of pride, excess in speech, excess in eating, anger, the desire of enjoyment, and intestine dissensions, - these, O king, are six sharp swords that cut off the period of life allotted to creatures. It is these, which kill men, and not death. Knowing this, blessed be thou

Speech

Speech

To control speech, O king, is said to be most difficult. It is not easy to hold a long conversation uttering words full of meaning and delightful to the hearers. Well-spoken speech is productive of many beneficial results; and ill-spoken speech, O king, is the cause of evil. A forest pierced by arrows, or cut down by hatchets may again grow, but one's heart wounded and censured by ill-spoken words never recovers. Weapons such as arrows, bullets and bearded darts, can be easily extracted from the body, but a wordy dagger plunged deep into the heart is incapable of being taken out. Wordy arrows are shot from the mouth. Smitten by them one grieves day and night. A learned man should not discharge such arrows, for do they not touch the very vitals of others?
