*Important Note

A stock clerk was sent to clean up a storeroom in

Maui , Hawaii .

When he got back, he was complaining that the storeroom was really filthy and that he had noticed dried mouse/rat droppings in some areas.
A couple of days later, he started to feel like he was coming down with stomach flu, complained of sore joints and headaches, and began to     vomit.

He went to bed and never really got up again. Within two days he was     severely ill and weak. His blood sugar count was down to 66, and his face and eyeballs were yellow. He was rushed to the hospital where h e was diagnosed to be suffering from massive organ failure. He died shortly     before midnight.
No one would have made the connection between his job and his death, had it     not been for a doctor who specifically asked if he had been in a warehouse     or exposed to dried rat/mouse droppings at any time. They said there is a virus (much like the Hanta virus) that lives in dried rat and mouse droppings.

Once dried, these droppings are like dust and can easily be breathed in or ingested if a person does not wear protective gear or fails     to wash face and hands thoroughly.

An autopsy was performed on the clerk to verify the doctor's suspicions. This is why it is extremely important to ALWAYS carefully rinse off the tops of canned sodas or foods, and to wipe off pasta packaging, cereal boxes, and so on.

Almost everything you buy in a supermarket was stored in a warehouse at one time or another, and stores themselves often have rodents.

Most of us remember to wash vegetables and fruits but never think of boxes and cans.

The ugly truth is, even the most modern, upper-class, super store has rats and     mice. And their warehouse most assuredly does!

Whenever you buy any canned soft drink, please make sure that you wash the top with running water and soap or, if that is not available, drink with a straw.

The investigation of soda cans by the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta discovered that the tops of soda cans can be encrusted with dried rat's urine, which is so toxic it can be lethal. Canned drinks and other foodstuffs are stored in     warehouses and containers that are usually infested with rodents, and then they get transported to retail outlets without being properly cleaned.

Please forward this message to the people you care about.
(I JUST DID!)

TRANSLATION
1) Glory to the sri-krsna-sankirtana, which cleanses the heart of all the dust accumulated for years and extinguishes the fire of conditional life, of repeated birth and death. This sankirtana movement is the prime benediction for humanity at large because it spreads the rays of the benediction moon. It is the life of all transcendental knowledge. It increases the ocean of transcendental bliss, and it enables us to fully taste the nectar for which we are always anxious.
2) O my Lord, Your holy name alone can render all benediction to living beings, and thus You have hundreds and millions of names, like Krsna and Govinda. In these transcendental names You have invested all Your transcendental energies. There are not even hard and fast rules for chanting these names. O my Lord, out of kindness You enable us to easily approach You by Your holy names, but I am so unfortunate that I have no attraction for them.
3) One should chant the holy name of the Lord in a humble state of mind, thinking oneself lower than the straw in the street; one should be more tolerant than a tree, devoid of all sense of false prestige, and should be ready to offer all respect (11)

to others. In such a state of mind one can chant the holy name of the Lord constantly.
4) O almighty Lord, I have no desire to accumulate wealth, nor do I desire beautiful women nor do I want any number of followers. I only want Your causeless devotional service, birth after birth.
5) O son of Maharaja Nanda (Krsna), I am Your eternal servitor, yet somehow or other I have fallen into the ocean of birth and death. Please pick me up from this ocean of death and place me as one of the atoms at Your lotus feet.
6) O my Lord, when will my eyes be decorated with tears of love flowing constantly when I chant Your holy name? When will my voice choke up, and when will the hairs of my body stand on end at the recitation of Your name?
7) O Govinda! Feeling Your separations I am considering a moment to be like twelve years or more. Tears are flowing from my eyes like torrents of rain, and I am feeling all vacant in the world in Your absence.
8) I know no one but Krsna as my Lord, and He shall remain so even if He handles me roughly by His embrace or makes me brokenhearted by not being present before me. He is completely free to do anything and everything, for He is always my worshipful Lord, unconditionally

TRANSLATION
1) I am an impious sinner and have caused others great anxiety and trouble.
2) I have never hesitated to perform sinful act for my own enjoyment. Devoid of all compassion, concerned only with my own selfish interests, I am remorseful seeing others happy. I am a perpetual liar, and the misery of others is a source of great pleasure for me.
3) The material desires within the core of my heart are unlimited. I am wrathful, devoted to false pride and arrogance, intoxicated by vanity, and bewildered by worldly affairs. Envy and egotism are the ornaments I wear.
4) Ruined by laziness and sleep, I resist all pious deeds; yet I am very active and enthusiastic to perform wicked acts. For worldly fame and reputation I engage in the practice of deceitfulness. Thus I am destroyed by my own greed and am always lustful.
5) A vile, wicked man such as this, rejected by godly people, is a constant offender. I am such a person, devoid of all good works, forever inclined toward evil, worn out and wasted by various miseries.
6) Now in old age, deprived of all means of success, humbled and poor, Bhaktivinoda submits his tale of grief at the feet of the Supreme Lord.

The Ideal Grihastha is a Brahmachari

T

he Ideal Grihastha

is a

Brahmachari

Sri Srimad Gour Govinda Swami

Maharaja

Gåhastha-äçrama

means that there is some concession

for material enjoyment, sexual enjoyment. But

there is some restriction. Unless one has practiced

brahmacarya

, he cannot become a real gåhastha.

He becomes

gåha-vrata, gåhamedhé. He becomes

attached to home, hearth, wife, son, daughter, to the

last breath of his life. He cannot leave it.

Gåhastha

äçrama

is up to the fiftieth year. Until the fiftieth

year one can remain in

gåha and get some sexual

enjoyment. This enjoyment, that enjoyment. Sons,

daughters, and so much burden will be there. He

will not be able to sleep at night, crying, crying,

crying. The wife's demands, son's demands, and

daughter's demands will all be there. So the old

man feels, "Oh, they are devouring me. I earn this

much money and there are so many demands.

What shall I do?"

Now he has gained this bad experience. Therefore

it is said,

dillékä laòòü — jo khäye woh

pacchtäye, jo na khäye woh bhi pacchtäye

. This

is a famous saying in Hindi: There is a famous

variety of

laòòü in Delhi. One who has eaten

it, he laments. One who has not eaten, he too

laments. Yes. One who has become a

gåhastha,

he has already eaten it. What is that

laòòü? It is

this enjoyment, sexual enjoyment. One who has

tasted it, he says, 'I have already experienced it.

Oh! No more, no more, no more!'

There is a story. There was a jackal who saw a

jungle of sweet sugarcane. He entered into it with

a desire to eat. There he saw a beehive that was

round in shape. He thought, "Oh, this is the fruit

of sugarcane. Sugarcane is so sweet, therefore the

fruit must be much sweeter, so I must eat the fruit

first, then I'll eat the sugarcane." So he tried to eat

it and immediately wasps came out, stinging him.

"Ohh! No more, no more, no more eating."

Therefore, in order to gain some experience,

one is allowed to become a

gåhastha. Guru says,

'All right, go and become a

gåhastha. Accept a

wife and gain some experience. Enjoy and get the

reaction. Then you'll say, 'No more, no more, no

more!' and give up this thing.' If the guru observes

that he has material desires and cannot remain

brahmacäré

throughout life, he is allowed to

marry. He has already practiced celibacy during his

brahmacäré

period. So unless one becomes a good

brahmacäré

, he cannot become a proper gåhastha.

He becomes a

gåhamedhé, attached to home and

hearth, wife, son, daughter, and all other enjoyment.

He is

adänta-

gobhiù

, which means that he has

not controlled his senses.

punaù punaç carvitacarvaëänäm

— again and again he is chewing the

chewed [

Bhäg. 7.5.30].

Gåhastha

is also a brahmacäré. He is known

as

upakurväëa-brahmacäré. Two types of brahmacärés

are there:

naiñöika-brahmacäré, and

upakurväëa-brahmacäré.

Both strictly follow the

rules and regulations of the

brahmacäré äçrama

and become free from all material desires. A strict

brahmacäré

is free from all material desires. brähmaëo

'gnir iva jvalan

— A brähmaëa who observes

the great vow of celibacy becomes brilliant like

fire [

Bhäg. 11.17.36]. He is not allowed to accept

marriage.

He remains in

guru-gåha, the ashram of

the guru, till the end of his life. He is a proper candidate

for

sannyäsa. The purpose of marriage is to

accept a wife who will produce a worthy son. A son

who is a

kåñëa-bhakta, a vaiñëava son, who will

render service to the senses of Krishna.

Spiritual Master and Disciple

Sent to you by dinesh via Google Reader:

via KKS Blog by noreply@blogger.com (aatish) on 11/28/10

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, Mayapur, November 2010)

Here in Mayapur, Satyadhana tells a story that he was going next door and one of Prabhupada's Godbrothers: Damadora Maharaja told him that:
"Prabhupada is your Diksha Guru and I'm your Siksha Guru'
..and then he came back later to Prabhupada and said that something really far out happenened: Damador maharaja told me this - and Prabhupada said: "You go back there and tell that I am your both Diksha and Siksha guru'
So generally the Siksha Guru becomes the Diksha Guru also implies that after the initiation take place the siksha also continues and then there is an on going siksha relationship as well, and that is what we see for all practical purposes mostly taking place in our movement, but is not always the case.
A lot of objection has been made or a lot of criticism has been there about the initiations that were maybe just formal diksha and that no training of the disciple and so on…but I think it's fine as long as the disciple is trained up by someone else - that is fine – it does not minimise the role of the Diksha Guru at all – because one devotee came and started to really lament and say:
"I have no relationship with my Guru, it's a very sad story, he never communicates with me and there is no exchange.' ...

The appropriate perspective on this situation is:
'That's fine, accept the mercy that you have received. He has the purity by his commitment to the Paramapara and has connected you to the Paramapara and has got you all the blessings from the Paramapara by the diksha - that is a tremendous blessing that you have got, and now the instruction you may have to get from somehere else.'
So it is a false kind of reasoning that:
'My Guru never writes to me, he doesn't answer my mail' and all these kind of things - it misses the point of understanding that the Guru has done a great thing; firstly by his purity by being connected to the Paramapara and secondly he is giving the blessings by diksha, and siksha may come by the community of the vaishnavas and that is actually fine – there is nothing wrong with that…it is part of the culture we have to have this - Of course there is an injunction that whatever a person learns from a Siksha Guru , it should get confirmed by the Diksha Guru just to avoid contradictions that may arise between the two authorities – but it is obvious in many cases that there will be a relationship with the siksha guru.
Now all these things are very intricate and very complex and I have sometime heard that devotees made a case that:
"We are the ones that are guiding these devotees on a daily basis and the spiritual master only comes from time to time and only sees his disciples some times and therefore the real siksha relationship, the real substance is more with us who are guiding the devotee on a more regular basis"
but that is also not always the case , it can't just be measured by quantity; it maybe that there are some who are guiding on a daily basis but it also maybe that the Diksha Guru, who probably became a Diksha Guru because of his maturity and experience, in those few moments that the meeting is taking place, giving instructions on a deeper level.
I am also remembering Brihat Bhagavatamrita, Gopa Kumar and his Spiritual master had an interesting relationship because his Spiritual Master appears from time to time in his life, and gives short instructions, doesn't explain them, sometime he is even ecstatic and can not express thing properly and Gopa Kumar is stuck with these instructions that he can not even understand properly.
Then he tries to follow them to the best of his ability – but it works because Krishna reciprocates with his sincerity in trying to follow the instructions of the spiritual master faithfully and he gives him the intelligence to somehow or other figure it out in due course of time.

Our highest power is love

From The Secret Daily Teachings

Our highest power is love, and it is one thing each of us has an unlimited amount of. How much love do you give to others in one day? Each day we have an opportunity to set out with this great, unlimited power in our possession, and pour it over every person and circumstance.

Love is appreciating, complimenting, feeling gratitude, and speaking good words to others.

We have so much love to give, and the more that we give, the more we receive.

May the joy be with you,
