Bhakti Yoga-Devotional Service to the Supreme Lord Sri Krishna

Bhakti Yoga-Devotional Service to the Supreme Lord Sri Krishna
Gopis performing Devotional Service to the Lordships Sri Sri Radha Krishna

Nature is so perfectly designed like a prisonhouse!

You cannot stop the sex unless you are fully in Krsna consciousness. It is
not possible. And that is the material bondage. In the material prisonhouse
they have got so many means-big, big walls, handcuff, chain -- but nature is
so perfect that simply give you a beautiful woman, and you are all prisoner.
Big wall, handcuff and chain -- everything is complete

"Letter From Srila Prabhupada"

My Dear Daniel,
Please accept my blessings. I am so much thankful to you for your good wishes, and your realization that you are the eternal servant of Krishna. It is the primary understanding of our constitutional position. Actually, we are servant, but in the conditioned state, every one of us posing as the master. The sooner we forget that we are not master, we are servant; and if even though we are not inclined to serve Krishna, we have to become the servant of our senses. So the sooner we realize this fact, that our constitutional position is servant, that means we are liberated. Liberation means to be situated in one's original position. Just like a man suffering from fever, so relief from fever means to be situated in normal condition. So service is our normal condition, but this service being misplaced, we are not happy but as soon as the service is placed to the right person, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Krishna, everything becomes happy and successful.
Please go on chanting "Govinda Jaya Jaya, Govinda Jaya Jaya, Radha Ramana Hari, Govinda Jaya Jaya'', along with "Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare. Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama, Rama, Hare Hare.'' And in any condition you shall be happy without any doubt. Thanking you once more for your postcard, and I beg to remain
Your ever well wisher,
A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami

There is no scarcity of anything within this world

If there is little pain in the finger, I become so much disturbed because I have got intimate connection with this finger.  Similarly, we have got intimate connection with Krishna, and we are fallen.  Therefore, Krishna also feels little pain, and therefore, He comes down.  Krishna is feeling pain.  So you become Krishna conscious.  Then Krishna will feel pleasure.

His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada
In his conversations, Vrindavan, 24thApril, 1975.

A bona fide devotee of Lord Krishna is always pained to see the fallen condition of the whole world.  Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Sarasvati Thakura used to say, “There is no scarcity of anything within this world, the only scarcity is of Krishna Consciousness.”  That is the vision of all the pure devotees.  Because of this lack of Krishna Consciousness in human society, people are suffering terribly, being merged in an ocean of nescience and sense gratification.  A devotee onlooker is very much aggrieved to see such a situation in the world.

Sri Chaitanya Charithaamrutha, Aadi Leela,
Chapter – 13, Text – 67.

We Keep On Trying!

Good one!!! Factual..

Sent to you by dinesh via Google Reader:

via KKS Blog by noreply@blogger.com (aatish) on 8/21/10

Kadamba Kanana swami really encourages the devotees at New Radha Kunda, Sweden, August 2010:
"We keep on trying!"

Devotional service is so powerful it will always act and therefore gradually that devotional service will take over, there is no doubt about it. So we are not worried that 'this process will not work for some.'
Just like a medicine you don't know if it's going to work, it works for some people but doesn't work for others- but devotional service is not likethat. Devotional service, it's not that it works for some but doesn't work for others – we may be the exception: ' it doesn't work for me'

No, devotional service works for everyone, it always works, it never fails to act. As soon as one somehow or other connects to devotional service one will be purified.
Srila Prabhupada had this great conviction and on the strength of that he was ready to approach anyone and everyone. He wasn't considering, wasn't considering who was qualified and who was not qualified, because he had this strong faith that this would act. But we don't have this faith and particularly in relation to ourselves, we often times think that this is not going to work:
'it's not working'..not even that it's not going to work : 'it's not working...we are experiencing, it's not working'

So that is the illusory energy where we think that our maya is so strong that it can not be overcome, where we think the rahu, the rahu in our astrological chart that is lasting for such a long time is stronger than anything else!
"What can I do I am in my rahu period'! There's nothing I can do about it and it is going to last for another nineteen years – and for nineteen years my spiritual life is going to be a total mess. Three astrologers have confirmed it , even the Brigu reader in India has said it you know. I am doomed and that's the way it is. For 19 years I'll be doomed and there is nothing I can do, and I just have to ride it out. But then after I go to the Jupiter period then it will be very nice, when I am forty seven and then suddenly everything will go very nice in my spiritual life'

What rubbish, what garbage, what nonsense! Material considerations have nothing to do with bhakti. Because it is explained that the bhakti creeper is not dependent. Bhakti lata, it is a creeper. So generally when a creeper is growing, it needs support, it grows on a tree, it grows on a wall. But this bhakti lata does not need any support. No support at all. Bhakti therefore is not dependant on anything. Nothing at all.
In the Caitanya Caritamrita Madya Lila, chapter fifteen text 108 it is said that bhakti does not even depend on initiation. Is says the Holy Name is not depending on intiation. Even that, because the Holy Name can produce all results, all the results. There is no material contamination that needs another solution. This medicine is always effective. It always works.

The only problem is if we don't take it. If we don't take it then it is a little difficult to work. Right? …….
….Knowledge can increase our eagerness in devotional service. So the more knowledge we develop about the potency of the Holy Name, the potency of devotional service, the more eager we will be to perform it, the more eager we will be to take advantage because then we realise it's not impossible. Although emotionally at present spiritual life feels: 'It's too difficult' 'It's nice, it's good, it's the truth but it's too difficult'
This tendency to think that 'Yes, I believe in Krishna consciousness, yes yes I believe in bhakti yoga, yes yes I believe that it is the truth. Yes yes but I don't believe in myself. I don't belive that I can do it'

That is a more subtle form of faithlessness. People that say I have no faith in devotional service, well we can say that is unfortunate but if we just study the argument and the logic then many of us can accept ..'yes, why would God not be ever fresh, why would He not be all powerful, why would He not be all knowing, why would He not be the most famous person, why not, why would He not be a person, if everywhere there is a person, if everything has personality, then why not Him if He is the origin, shouldn't the creation reflect the nature of the creator? Logical'
Like that one can hear all the arguments and accept the system of belief of Krishna consciousness. It makes sense , it gives a complete picture. But then what? Then we have no self confidence:
'I've never been successful in my life, I know my limitations, I just can't do it, what can I say, and I've already tried I couldn't do it. I tried to follow the four regulative principles but I couldn't do it therefore bhakti yoga is too difficult for me, what can I do now? Maybe I'll do hatha yoga now!'

Totally missing the point! Success is not measured whether we can follow the regulative principles or not. In the preliminary stages or the early stages of Krishna consciousness we may not be able to follow the four regulative principles. That doesn't matter, we keep on trying. Prabhupada often said:
'Failure is the pillar of success'
Prabhupada said just like children, it is natural for a child to walk. It takes a certain amount of effort and in the beginning the child will fall and fall and fall and again and again and one day it will walk. So in the same way in the beginning we may struggle, we may not be able to follow:
'Yeah but me it's not just the beginning I've been like this for the last thirty five years!!!'
Well, then it's a beginning of thirty five years. Even that's not so long.
'Not so long!!! That's half my life!!! Half a life time at least!!'
Yeah but that's not so much, you still have the other half to be Krishna conscious!

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, New Radha Kunda August 2010)

Whenever mrdanga and karatals are combined, a mohini shakti is produced

The mrdanga is a traditional Indian percussion instrument used to accompany bhajans and kirtans.
It is said that whenever mrdanga and karatals are combined, a mohini shakti (potency of enchantment) is produced that creates an auspicious atmosphere. The following story describes the appearance of the mrdanga in the pastimes of Caitanya Mahaprabhu:

“Before coming to this world as the Golden Avatara, Lord Krishna said to his flute, “My dear flute, I am descending again to the material world but not in this form. You should stay here with Radharani to pacify Her. I promised Radha that I would not take you with me”. On hearing this, the flute began to cry and said, “My dear Lord Krishna, how can You leave me here alone. I have always been by Your side, but now You are neglecting me. What have I done to deserve this?”
Krishna replied compassionately that he would bring him along but in a different form. The flute did not mind changing his form, as long as he could remain engaged in Krishna’s personal service, in this way the flute transformed into a mrdanga, and descended to this world with Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu.
The mrdanga is not an ordinary musical instrument. Being the incarnation of Krishna’s flute it is very dear to Lord Krishna.” (Mahanidhi Swami, Appreciating Navadvipa Dhama)

"I empower you with the ability to write", Lord Chaitanya

H.H. Satsvarupa das Goswami:

www.sdgonline.org.
Freewrite
Lord Caitanya gives Sanatana Goswami a synopsis of how to write the Hari-bhakti-vilasa. Sanatana said he had no power to write such a book on Vaisnava behavior. Lord Caitanya then embraced him and said, "Whatever I have taught you, you will be able to manifest it. I empower you with the ability to write." I wish I could be empowered like that. Lord Vishnu touched Dhruva Maharaja with His conchshell and Dhruva was suddenly enlightened and eloquent to speak to speak all the Vedic conclusions. That is a special force of mercy given to those who perform austerities under the order of the spiritual master. He simply chooses to bless them, and they become aware. So be aware that the mudhas will never be able to hear the truth, even after you have been touched by Vishnu. But those who are honest will hear and become enlivened. Prabhupada wrote a poem expressing his hesitancy when he arrived in Boston harbor in September of 1965. He spoke to Krishna and questioned: "How will I be able to reach these people? Their ways are demoniac, and they are entangled in the modes of passion and ignorance (he had taken a walk into Boston with the captain and saw the city). I don't speak their language expertly. But You must have sent me here for some purpose. I am just Your puppet, so if you want me to dance, please make me dance." Then he took heart that the message of the Bhagavatam would pierce their coverings.

Words Describing Krishna Destroy All Suffering

Sent to you by dinesh via Google Reader:

via KKS Blog by noreply@blogger.com (aatish) on 2/1/10

Kadamba Kanana Swami:

(full transcript)
Srila Bhakti Siddhanta pointed out that if we publish a newspaper about a small town here and there is nothing new. But about Krishna there is unlimited information so there really isn't no need for anything else. One can just find out more about Krishna and there is still more to find out - -it's not the same old news that you have to chew for a few days! There's really always something new about Krishna.
So if we just look at that and just make it more and more famous, whatever we know about Krishna just share it with others and spread the fame and the Glories of Krishna- then automatically everybody will become enlivened. This is Krishna consciousness: Sharing the Glories of Krishna, the Name of Krishna, Prasadam, food stuffs offered to Krishna and that's what we will really taste in life - - and everything else what taste do you get?

If you read that news of the day whatever it is called...the dog paper! Something like that! If you read that dog paper, that's what it is, it's just about dogs: That dog and that dog, you know dogobama barks again! ....
The truth of the matter is that people are indeed concerned with doggish things, taking this junk and that junk, doggish things.

But Krishna consciousness is very nice, every word is purifying us, every word is uplifting us, everyword is liberating us , every word is destroying suffering.
If we have a problem with the material world and we say that there is too much suffering , every word of Krishna consciousness kicks it away!
We say: "but it doesn't work I tried ,"
No just like a medicine you take it and say "oh it doesn't work, it doesn't work, it makes it worse"
Doctor will say "No No just keep taking it and it it will work, it will work"

So if we carry on with this chanting of Hare Krishna and hearing about Krishna it will destroy all suffering!

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, Stockholm 2010)

Count the glories of the other person

Sent to you by dinesh via Google Reader:

via KKS Blog by noreply@blogger.com (Hina) on 4/26/10

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, 30/03/2010)

Through forgiveness we can rise above this material condition- it is a fact -it is not so easy. But when I was about to join the Hare Krishna Movement I thought:
'Now! now it will be wonderful, because from now on I will be together with many nice people, just like me!'
And then when I joined, I saw that this HORRIBLE GUY! - The one that I always detested! Everything about him, I always thought was disgusting!
He had also JOINED! I never expected that! That was something that I hadn't calculated. It was a major problem that I had to face!...

So it does take some work to rise above our sort of inborn entity towards some devotees and to kind of appreciate them.

But the Vaishnava approach is simply to look at a person and count all his glories! ALL his glories, activities. See everyday; rise up early; see enthusiasm; see the sacrifice someone makes! If we just add up all the service, that the devotee is doing, than it's not difficult to appreciate it, then one can overlook the faults!

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, 30/03/2010)

Krishna Owns The Field, We Are The Workers

Sent to you by dinesh via Google Reader:

via KKS Blog by noreply@blogger.com (aatish) on 7/27/09

HARE KRISHNA
Chapter 13, Verse 1-2.
Arjuna said: O my dear Krsna, I wish to know about prakrti [nature], purusa [the enjoyer], and the field and the knower of the field, and of knowledge and the end of knowledge. The Blessed Lord then said: This body, O son of Kunti, is called the field, and one who knows this body is called the knower of the field.

Chapter 13, Verse 3.
O scion of Bharata, you should understand that I am also the knower in all bodies, and to understand this body and its owner is called knowledge. That is My opinion.

So here the body is compared to a field, the field of activities and Gita is speaking of the knower of the field and who is the knower of the field.....that is the question being asked. the question that is being asked, the answer that Krishna gives is that He says that I am also the knower of the field because the obvious answer is well...anybody would say well if the body is a field I am the knower of the field...I am in this body. Krishna says that Yes I am ALSO the knower of the field!

In short there are two knowers of the field. One is Krishna and the other one is ourselves. So this is explained that sometimes in this world you also have a field where you grow things and there are the two knowers of that field: One is the propietor of the field and the other one is the cultivator. So in relation to the body Krishna is the proprietor and we are the cultivator....That is Bhagavad Gita, well that is a huge adjustment in one's mental state..if we say Kishna is the Proprieter and we are the cultivator it's a whole different thing.

Imagine you were the proprietor of a field and someone is working in it for you, you don't mind if he takes something from the field, he takes a few bags of grain...it's ok...you won't say anything. But when he starts taking truck loads then you know it gets serious! So this is how it is in this world: If Krishna is the proprietor of the field and we are the cultivator, it means that we may take what we need for our own maintenance but the rests belongs to Krishna....and thus actually everything in this world is owned by Krishna.

(HH KKS 15/02/2009)

Upward rooted Banyan Tree!

via Mayapur TV Archives by Yasomati on 8/19/10

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

H.H. Jayapataka Swami is one of the most senior disciples of H.D.G. A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada. He took sannyas at the early age of 21 and remained so his whole life, the oldest ISKCON sannyas. He recently suffered a severe stroke and after living in Los Angeles California receiving treatments to gain back his health for 8 months, by request of the Governing Body Commission, he has now returned to Mayapur Dham, his home and head quarters. We extend our most sincere wishes for his full recovery.

Bhagavad-gītā As It Is 15.3-4

na rūpam asyeha tathopalabhyate
nānto na cādir na ca sampratiṣṭhā
aśvattham enaḿ su-virūḍha-mūlam
asańga-śastreṇa dṛḍhena chittvā

tataḥ padaḿ tat parimārgitavyaḿ
yasmin gatā na nivartanti bhūyaḥ
tam eva cādyaḿ puruṣaḿ prapadye
yataḥ pravṛttiḥ prasṛtā purāṇī

SYNONYMS

na — not; rūpam — the form; asya — of this tree; iha — in this world; tathā — also; upalabhyate — can be perceived; na — never; antaḥ — end; na — never; ca — also; ādiḥ — beginning; na — never; ca — also; sampratiṣṭhā — the foundation; aśvattham — banyan tree; enam — this; su-virūḍha — strongly; mūlam — rooted; asańga-śastreṇa — by the weapon of detachment; dṛḍhena — strong; chittvā — cutting; tataḥ — thereafter; padam — situation; tat — that; parimārgitavyam — has to be searched out; yasmin — where; gatāḥ — going; na — never; nivartanti — they come back; bhūyaḥ — again; tam — to Him; eva — certainly; ca — also; ādyam — original; puruṣam — the Personality of Godhead; prapadye — surrender; yataḥ — from whom; pravṛttiḥ — the beginning; prasṛtā — extended; purāṇi — very old.

TRANSLATION

The real form of this tree cannot be perceived in this world. No one can understand where it ends, where it begins, or where its foundation is. But with determination one must cut down this strongly rooted tree with the weapon of detachment. Thereafter, one must seek that place from which, having gone, one never returns, and there surrender to that Supreme Personality of Godhead from whom everything began and from whom everything has extended since time immemorial.

PURPORT

It is now clearly stated that the real form of this banyan tree cannot be understood in this material world. Since the root is upwards, the extension of the real tree is at the other end. When entangled with the material expansions of the tree, one cannot see how far the tree extends, nor can one see the beginning of this tree. Yet one has to find out the cause. "I am the son of my father, my father is the son of such-and-such a person, etc." By searching in this way, one comes to Brahmā, who is generated by the Garbhodakaśāyī Viṣṇu. Finally, in this way, when one reaches the Supreme Personality of Godhead, that is the end of research work. One has to search out that origin of this tree, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, through the association of persons who are in knowledge of that Supreme Personality of Godhead. Then by understanding one becomes gradually detached from this false reflection of reality, and by knowledge one can cut off the connection and actually become situated in the real tree.

The word asańga is very important in this connection because the attachment for sense enjoyment and lording it over the material nature is very strong. Therefore one must learn detachment by discussion of spiritual science based on authoritative scriptures, and one must hear from persons who are actually in knowledge. As a result of such discussion in the association of devotees, one comes to the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Then the first thing one must do is surrender to Him. The description of that place whence having gone one never returns to this false reflected tree is given here. The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Kṛṣṇa, is the original root from whom everything has emanated. To gain favor of that Personality of Godhead, one has only to surrender, and this is a result of performing devotional service by hearing, chanting, etc. He is the cause of the extension of the material world. This has already been explained by the Lord Himself. Ahaḿ sarvasya prabhavaḥ: "I am the origin of everything." Therefore to get out of the entanglement of this strong banyan tree of material life, one must surrender to Kṛṣṇa. As soon as one surrenders unto Kṛṣṇa, one becomes detached automatically from this material extension.

His Vision is Deeper

We may recall that story of Struta Kirti, who describes that he was in Los Angeles at the airport, and this was the second time that Prabhupada was coming. Coming back from India. We recall Prabhupada had gone to New York : Gone to San Francisco : Had preached and made so many followers : Became ill and went to India.

The second time when Prabhupada came back to Los Angeles, there were hundreds of devotees at the airport. Everyone was just waiting and waiting for Prabhupada to come. There was a huge kirtan and when Prabhupada finally came out of the security area - all the devotees just fell down on the ground and offered their obeisances, and when they got up - they all started crying. Except Struta Kirti. – not a tear – nothing. So when he saw all these devotees getting so emotional. He thought, " My God, I don't have any devotion".

So later on the day, he was massaging Prabhupada and during the massage he said, "Prabhupada when you arrived at the airport, all the devotees they were crying. But …I.. you know…I had no tears at all! I have no love at all!"

Prabhupada didn't reply – he didn't say a word. The massage continued and that was it. But 24 hours later on the same schedule again there was a massage, and suddenly Prabhupada said, " This is also love".

So Prabhupada saw that whatever service that the devotees are doing is out of love. One may say that is because he was so exalted that he was seeing just good qualities in everyone. But it's not like that. He was seeing even good qualities in everyone that people couldn't even see in themselves! That is the nature of the pure devotee. His vision is deeper, and therefore he can see within people, qualities that they don't even see that they have.

One might say, " I am just a dog!" Alright, but a dog has at least one good quality- that he's faithful, and that's favourable for spiritual life. So you maybe a dog, but at least you have one good quality – that you're faithful. So in other words an exalted vaisnava can see deep good qualities within us and pull them out! He can take these qualities and magnify them – and that's what Prabhupada did!

Help Me Lord Pls-George Harrison

Check youtube for song. Lyrics follows.
(hear me lord)

Forgive me lord
Please, those years when I ignored you, hmm
Forgive them lord
Those that feel they cant afford you, hmm

Help me lord, please
To rise above this dealing, hmm
Help me lord, please
To love you with more feeling, hmm

At both ends of the road
To the left and the right
Above and below us
Out and in, theres no place that youre not in
Oh, wont you hear me lord

(hear me lord)
(hear me lord)
(hear me lord)
(hear me lord)

At both ends of the road
To the left and the right
Above and below us
Out and in, theres no place that youre not in
Oh, wont you hear me lord

Help me lord, please
To rise a little higher, hmm
Help me lord, please
To burn out this desire, hmm

Hear me lord, please
Hear me lord, please

Oh, wont you please, please
Hear me lord
Oh, hear me lord
Hear me lord

Oh, wont you please, please
Hear me lord
My lord, my lord, my lord
(hear me lord)

Now, wont you please (hear me lord)
My lord, my lord, my lord
Wont you please / (hear me lord)
Oh, hear me lord, hear me lord
(hear me lord)

Journalism Warning Labels

Isn't it strange that the media carefully label any content that involves sex, violence or strong language but there's no labelling system for wacky journalism and other questionable content? (like this blogpost :-)
Geek comedian Tom Scott designed a solution for this. He made a sticker template which is downloadable at his website. It's up to you where to put them.
