Satsvarupa Dasa Goswami's Notes-Inspiring!

Satsvarupa Dasa Goswami's Notes

Dealing With...

Dealing with the people in my life,
some are naughty and some are nice.

I'm dealing with the aches in the head,
they come several times a day.

I'm dealing with my japa beads,
fingering them through my hand and
keeping my mind and lips
fixed to pronunciation. Yeah,
dealing with the japa every day in the
early hours, sixteen rounds before
breakfast.

I'm dealing with mental stresses that
come from some people who stress me
with their stresses. Dealing with the
stresses.

I am dealing with my writing of poems.
Each day I do two and try to make them
do. Make them do their thing in a
Krishna conscious way.

I'm dealing with the world of ISKCON.
I live in it, and it leaves me alone,
and I make my contribution on the Web.

I'm dealing with disciples through
the mail, answering their queries and
sometimes problems I have to deal with.
Dealing with disciples.

Dealing with the cards that life
has dealt me. Now I'm seventy, and
I don't know how many more I'll get,
but I'm dealing with my duration in
a cool-headed way, aware that Krishna
comes at the end, and you should
think of Him. Dealing with my
duration.

Dealing with my medicine. I don't
take too much, but when pain comes,
there's a variety. Dealing with my meds
and doctors and prescriptions.

Dealing with my celibacy.
It's all over now. No trouble, no sex
desire is left. I'm glad for that.
Nothing left to deal with in the
world of sex. That's all over now.

Dealing with the blues when they come.
I get down when someone speaks sharply
to me or I'm too much alone. Dealing
with the blues.

Dealing with exercise and overweight.
You should not get fat. You should walk
every day and ride the stationary bike.
Deal with sedentary blues.

Dealing with my faith, with my patience
and waiting for raganuga to arrive.
Dealing with the soul and
the relationship with Krishna.

Dealing with Radha and Krishna, may
they become real and true to me. May
I meet Them in the proper way befitting
my realization. Dealing with
Radhe-Syama!

Dealing with the dealing. You have to
mix it up with all the dealings in your
life. Get things organized and nice.
dealing with the dealing. Dealing with
the deal. Radha and Krishna are real,
and I better deal with that in a
realistic way, taking it
according to my actual realization.

English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German

... Euro-EnglishThe European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility. As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5-year phase-in plan that would become known as ... See More'Euro-English'. In the first year, 's' will replace the soft 'c'. Sertainly, this will make the! sivil servants jump with joy. The hard 'c' will be dropped in favour of 'k'. This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter. There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome 'ph' will be replaced with 'f'. This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter. In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible. Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which have always bena deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent 'e' in the languag is disgrasful and it should go away. By the 4th yer people wil be reseptiv to step! s such as replasing 'th' with 'z' and 'w' with 'v'. During ze fifz yer, ze unesesary 'o' kan be dropd from vords kontaining 'ou' and after ziz fifz yer, ve vil hav a reil sensi bl riten styl. Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi tu understand ech oza. Ze drem of a united urop vil finali kum tru. Und efter ze fifz yer, ve vil al be speking German like zey vunted in ze forst plas. If zis mad you smil, pleas pas on to oza pepl.Author Unknown

Only the english could have invented this language-Sounds interesting!-Good to read

Only The English Could Have Invented This Language

... We'll begin with a box, and the plural is boxes, But the plural of ox becomes oxen, not oxes. One fowl is a goose, but two are called geese, Yet the plural of moose should never be meese. You may find a lone mouse or a nest full of mice, Yet the plural of house is houses, not hice. If the plural of man is always called men, Then shouldn't the plural of pan be called pen? If I speak of my foot and show you my feet, And I give you a boot, would a pair be called beet? If one is a tooth and a whole set are teeth, Why shouldn't the plural of booth be called beeth? Then one may be that, and three would be those, Yet hah in the plural would never be hose, And the plural of cat is cats, not cose. We speak of a brother and also of brethren, But though we say mother, we never say methren. Then the masculine pronouns are he, his and him, But imagine the feminine: she, shis and shim! Let's face it - English is a crazy language. There is no egg in eggplant nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins weren't invented in England .. We take English for granted, but if we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square, ... See More and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig. And why is it that writers write but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham? Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend. If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it? If teachers taught, why didn't preachers praught? If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat? Sometimes I think all the folks who grew up speaking English should be committed to an asylum for the verbally insane . In what other language do people recite at a play and play at a recital? We ship by truck but send cargo by ship. We have noses that run and feet that smell. We park in a driveway and drive in a parkway. And how can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites? You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out, and in which an alarm goes off by going on. And, in closing, if Father is Pop, how come Mother's not Mop? I WOULD LIKE TO ADD THAT IF PEOPLE FROM POLAND ARE CALLED POLES THEN PEOPLE FROM HOLLAND SHOULD BE HOLES AND THE GERMANS GERMS!!!

Work Phone Bill-Ice Breaker!!

The phone bill was exceptionally high and the man of the house called a family meeting... on a Saturday morning... after breakfast...

Dad: People this is unacceptable. You have to limit the use of the phone. I do not use this phone, I use the one at the office.

Mum: Same here, I hardly use this home telephone as I use my work telephone.

Son: Me too, I never use the home phone. I always use my company mobile.

Maid: So - what is the problem? We all use our work telephones !

Krishna Knows!

---------- Forwarded message ----------

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,

Please accept my dandavat pranams. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

Recently I came across an interesting story. A person once visited a temple under construction where he saw a sculptor making an Archavigraha of Krishna. Suddenly he noticed a similar Archavigraha kept nearby. Surprised, he asked the sculptor, "Do you need two statues of the same Deity?" "No," said the sculptor without looking up, "We need only one, but the first one got damaged at the last stage." The gentleman examined the Deity and found no apparent damage. "Where is the damage?" he asked. "There is a scratch on the nose of the Deity." said the sculptor, still busy with his work. "Where are you going to install the Deity?"

The sculptor replied that it would be installed on a pillar twenty feet high.. "If the Deity is that far, who is going to know that there is a scratch on the nose?" the gentleman asked. The sculptor stopped his work, looked up at the gentleman, smiled and said, "Any one knows it or not, Krishna knows it."

This is the realization required when we are involved in any activity in our life when we are physically awake. Krishna is present in our heart in the form of Paramatma as He is present in everything around us. This has been explained in Srimad Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagvatam in various shlokas. One of these important shlokas is Srimad Bhagavad Gita 6.30.

yo maam pashyati sarvatra / sarvam ca mayi pashyati
tasyaaham na pranashyaami / sa ca me na pranashyati

For one who sees Me everywhere and sees everything in Me, I am never lost, nor is he ever lost to Me.

In his wonderful purport to the above verse, Srila Prabhupada has guided us to clear our understanding on this subject - A person in Krishna consciousness certainly sees Lord Krishna everywhere, and he sees everything in Krishna. Such a person may appear to see all separate manifestations of the material nature, but in each and every instance he is conscious of Krishna, knowing that everything is a manifestation of Krishna's energy. Nothing can exist without Krishna, and Krishna is the Lord of everything — this is the basic principle of Krishna consciousness.

We are many times under illusion that no one is watching us when we are involved in certain activities, but Krishna is all pervading and everywhere. He is omni-present and omniscient. He is with us even in our thoughts and our dreams since He is situated in our hearts as Paramatma. We are never alone or left un-noticed. All our good and bad deeds are being watched out by Him and the CID agents appointed by Him. In Srimad Bhagavatam verse 6.1.42 the list of CIDs is explained very nicely.

suryo'gnih kham marud devah / somah sandhya ahani disah
kam kuh svayam dharma iti / hy ete daihasya saksinah

(Yamadutas to Vishnudutas) "The sun, fire, sky, air, demigods, moon, evening, day, night, directions, water, land and Supersoul Himself witness all the activities of the living entity."

So we need to understand and realise that every moment of our life is with Him. When we think of Him all the time, He will reciprocate in the same way by helping us to remember Him constantly. Let us therefore sincerely pray to the Supreme Lord, Srila Prabhupada and Gurudev to bestow their mercy upon us, so that we remain conscious of His existence and use this rare opportunity of human life for remembering Him all the time and stay in continuous devotional service.

Thank you very much.
Your humble servant in service of Srila Prabhupada and Gurudev,
Milind Joshi,

A Message To the Disciples

A Message To the Disciples

Posted on November 23, 2009 by Mahat-tattva Dasa

saraswatithakur
By Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura
- A message to disciples.
(Excerpted from the book "Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur" by Mandala Publishing Group. Eugene, Oregon. 1997. Page 42)
Please preach the kirtan of the Supreme Lord, even if in doing so you have to incur debt; then in order to pay off that debt, you will have to be even more engaged in seva. When your creditors put pressure on you, you will be forced to beg more for alms. Again, as the pious householders will not give you alms unless your character and conduct are pure, you will be forced to preserve a pure lifestyle with great determination and care. I will not leave one penny for you, and in that way in the future you won't be able to indulge in laziness and you won't be able to give up your devotional lives full of hari-kirtan and hari-seva.
The matha (temple) is the center of hari-kirtan, and hari-kirtan is life and consciousness. To ensure that there is no place for laziness, bad conduct, trivial thought, gossip, or vulgar desire in the matha, you have to go from door to door, where your hari-kirtan will be tested by the public. When the public will think that they are the givers of alms and you are the receivers of alms , in other words, that their status is higher than yours, they will criticize you in many ways, thinking you are objects of their mercy. Perhaps some of them will also be ready to kick you out. Then, on one hand, you will be able to become trinad api sunicha, humbler than a blade of grass, and manada, respectful to others, and on the other hand you will take great care to make your lives and characters pure and exemplary.
Furthermore, what will be beneficial for you is this: as you will correct the mistakes of the common people by citing the message of sadhu, sastra, and guru-varga, you will not make those same mistakes.
Please do not be upset if someone criticizes you personally. But your guru-varga, sastra, and mahajans are completely faultless, supremely liberated, and eternal associates of the Lord. If, due to ignorance, someone criticizes them, then you should correct that person's mistakes by telling them the real truth. This will be very beneficial for both you and the ignorant people.
If you become lazy about begging for alms from door to door to collect ingredients for hari-kirtan, and if you indulge in laziness and bad habits, preferring reclusive bhajan so you can escape others' criticism, then your character will not be purified. You will not have the life of devotional practice. I will never give you any opportunity to become deceitful in the path of devotion in the privacy of your own home; I will never give you any opportunity to live in a reclusive place so that you can become undisciplined in your heart, thinking no one will come to see or hear you there.
You are my dearmost friends. I will never allow you to get into trouble. I will never allow you to give up the path of pleasing the senses of the Lord so that you can please the senses of the people of the world, as well as your own, because you received some temporary position or you could not tolerate some temporary criticism.

Srila Prabhupad Disappearance day

                  class by

    HH Banu Swamy Maharaj

Today is the disappearance day of Srila Prabhupad.Prabhupad actually disappeared in vrindavan. He was 81 years old. In a very short period of time he accomplished something no one else did. Of course if we take India in general, no one else influenced the western other than Srila Prabhupad. Certainly there were famous people. Vivekananda was famous.Ramakrishna was famous. But they do not influenced many people in the western world. Aurobindo also became little famous in the west but he did not influenced the people in the west. Gandhi is famous in the west, but he did not influenced anyone in the west. So western culture was not influenced by the vedic culture before Prabhupad went there. There may be few people, very very few. After Prabhupad established this movement then we see they have changed. Of course there was a change in understanding the philosophy and the Vedas.

Previously every one thought oh Vedas means Upanishads, Upanishads means Brahman, Brahman means Impersonalism.Prabhupad brought bhakti yoga, devotion to the personality of God.He brought this concept of god which is most Complete.Complete quality of god has all wonderful form, qualities, activities, pastimes. That was not described anywhere in Western culture.Infact if we look everywhere we find almost zero.So he communicated this to the Western world that there is another concept of god which is superior to the concept. At the same time it is non different. There is attraction because we are not condemning any belief or any religion, but including it Prabhupad established something much greater. So that was theosophy logical.Another achievement was that he gathered people who has committed to this belief. They really sacrificed alcohol, meat, smoke, drugs, tea, etc.

They are trying to live a completely different type of life. This was not done before by anybody. There were philosophy of Ramakrishna,Vivekananda, but nobody changed.People changed their way of living very radically. Now they adopted conditions like in India – dress, tilak. This is also remarkable achievement, introducing a culture. In other words we have introduction of a new philosophy and introduction of a new culture. As we know from BG,Krishna says bhakti is the best process and whatever benefit we get from another process are also included in the bhakti process. We have supreme philosophy and the supreme fact and for some reason these things were not known in the west,One reason is that this is not known in India. In other words chaitanya mahaprabhu's bhakti process was not very prominent. It was prominent 500 years ago when Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was there.[Goswamis trying towards in vrindavan that place is very active].

Lord Chaitanya established something very big movement. He started from nothing,he had is own philosophy and then he spreaded. After 500 years we see that the energy the impetus of that movement was  not very strong. Also people were just rarely preserving. What is there? Some of the scriptures are not there now. They are lost. This is not so far back just 500 years ago its not 2000 years ago.Still in 500 years so many things were lost.At the time of Bhakti vinod thakur,he discovered lord chaitanya's philosophy.he was living in Bengal.Still he didn't know anything about lord chaitanya's life history. He tried a complete copy of chaitanya caritamrita,he couldn't find anything anywhere. After very very difficulties he found authorized complete copy of chaitanya caritamrita.Nobody in the west heard the philosophy of chaitanya caritamrita. Then we see that bhakti began very vigorously.Greater victim and Bhakti siddhanta saraswati thakur also keeps up that mission in a big way. Bhakti siddhanta saraswati was great revolutionary. So revolutionary that his brother also rejected him.His brother was also a great devotee but he couldn't understand what Bhakti siddhanta saraswati was doing. So Bhakti siddhanta saraswati thakur very energetically established this movement in India.

Bhakti vinod thakur had this idea, that this greatest treasure has to be spreaded everywhere and that was committed by Bhakti siddhantha saraswati thakur and Srila prabhupad also followed it.What prabhupad did was started by Lord Chaitanya, Bhakti vinod thakur, Bhakti siddhantha saraswati thakur. After all this was accomplished, every body said its not so difficult. Any body could have done that. But really none of them did it. Even Bhakti siddhantha saraswati thakur send is disciple to England, Germany nothing has happened. So many of them doesn't encouraged Prabhupad for going to western countries.Yet somehow or other he was very determined and persevere inspite of all the obstacles. Prabhupad said, actually its not me I am like a puppet.Krishna controlled all this and whatever Krishna wants I will do.He also said I did nothing I just followed my spiritual master instruction. That instruction has great shakti.Where is that shakti comes from?Ultimately its Krishna's shakti. So Krishna is the most powerful and he can do the impossible. So through Krishna's will and through his gurus will that shakti transferred to prabhupad.Of course BSS had many disciples and he gave instructions to them. Basically it's the same order. Please Lord Chaitanya by spreading the holy name to everyone.

But somehow that shakti began to manifest nicely actually through prabhupad. We see that the shakti of the supreme lord manifested through prabhupad was very very strong. So we can say as the BG says that according to your surrender unto me I reciprocate. So because of prabhupads surrender and desire,Krishna responded. Therefore he was able to accomplish something very great.Krishna's shakti manifested through him because of his full surrender. So that is the greatest thing if one completely surrenders unto the supreme lord, that is very rare. From that every things happened.Lord's desire started manifesting. The desire of the devotees fulfilled.Prabhupad illustrated this very perfectly. So that is the contribution.Somebody criticize prabhupad. But they will never criticize his purity and sincerity.Every thing he did was with that purity and sincerity and for that reason his followers his disciples had faith. He didn't ask anything but his disciples surrendered to him and willing to do anything. So prabhupad's shakti then spreaded through his disciples.

In this way prabhupad and his disciples started spreading this movement. It was even now after 30 years of prabhupad's disappearance still that shakti goes on.So the shakti comes from Bhakti vinod thakur, Bhakti siddhanta saraswati thakur, prabhupad and continues only through their sincerity. There is nothing mysterious. All we have to do is very very sincere. We can do that by studying prabhupad's wonderful example. If we study him very very carefully, his writings, words, film, video etc…we will understand that sincerity and we can take that for ourself.Prabhupad was very intelligent he knew he will not stay here for ever. Therefore he started organization to preserve that shakti and he did that from the very beginning of his preaching in America. He had established a procedure by which the society develops.Organisation means leaders, followers, structure. He established a structure and he did that to preserve that spiritual energy.

Some people said oh organization means non spiritual. There will be rules and regulation that controls spontaneous love for Krishna. That is true if we have only material organization.Definitely it restricts the spiritual shakti. The secret is to keep the organization spiritual.By that all the members of the organization spiritualised. Therefore we do have the structure,we have rules and regulations,we have position etc…But we should always remember that the qualification for any of this is spiritual qualification. If we have material and spiritual qualification very good.If we have only spiritual qualification that's also good.if we have only material qualification that's bad.We should be very careful always keep everything spiritual.Prabhupad said I simply followed my spiritual masters order. Therefore I am successful. If we follow prabhupad's order to preserve his shakti and follow him in such a way then we can also be successful. We also preserve prabhupad's order.

This movement is a challenge for everyone. It is a great opportunity. We can cultivate bhakti that's for ourself and we are very free to expand this bhakti for others. That is the challenge for everyone.Increase your bhakti and spread it.That is the order given by Bhakti vinod thakur. Two phrases are there naame ruchi and jibe doya. The whole purpose of Lord Chaitanya movement is personally we develop attachment to the name of Krishna and spread it to others.Nama sankirtan also means give mercy to others. If we do one or the other it is not the best thing. So we should do both. That is what the society is for both. Our movement purpose is we can cultivate KC and we can spread KC.So the challenge is for us.Prabhupad took that challenge even in that very old age.So every devotee of ISKCON can also took up the challenge.Krishna will give that mercy.Anything is possible by the mercy of Krishna if they have faith. We can always think of new ways to expand the movement. This is the best way by which we can honour Prabhupad. We keep this movement strong and pure and expanding. He had desires. We have to fulfill his desire. It pleases Bhakti siddhantha saraswati thakur  Bhakti vinod thakur. It is pleasing to Lord Chaitanya,Nityananda, pleasing to Krishna. This is way in which we can advance and we can also expand.Every moment the world keeps going down.Every day there is more and more corruption, more and more sinful activity. So the whole world needs a change. So we want to help others.Let us propagate the mission of Srila Prabhupad to others.

<< Guru Vakya >> Don't Miss The Train!!

Don't Miss The Train!!

"Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakura, a great acarya in te Brahma Madhva Gaudiya line, mentioned that those people who live close to the railway station miss the train more frequently than others. They tend to think,"The railway station is right here, just next to my house and i can go there anytime. "But when the train comes, they rush to get there, and before they reach, the train leaves.

On the other hand, someone who is living far away thinks, "Oh, I have to go one hour ahead to get the train." So he reaches the railway station well ahead of time and waits there.

Similarly, we should not be lazy or negligent with our spiritual life thinking that we are in India, the holy land. Then we may miss the vimanam, going to vaikuntha. We should book our ticket well in advance and be prepared to go to the spiritual world.

Caitanya Mahaprabhu says that in kaliyuga, to get a ticket you simply have to pay the price.Do you know what the price is ?

We have to chant the holy names, Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare / Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare.

Why Do We Shout In Anger?

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: Dr Satish Gosain (Sri Krishna Hari Das) <sri.krishna.hari@gmail.com>

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: Amit Ghosh <amit.ghosh.76@gmail.com>

Why Do We Shout In Anger?

A saint asked his disciples, 'Why do we shout in anger? Why do people shout at each other when they are upset?'

Disciples thought for a while, one of them said, 'Because we lose our calm, we shout for that.'
'But, why to shout when the other person is just next to you?' asked the saint. 'Isn't it possible to speak to him or her with a soft voice? Why do you shout at a person when you're angry?'
Disciples gave some other answers but none satisfied the saint.

Finally he explained, 'When two people are angry at each other, their hearts distance a lot. To cover that distance they must shout to be able to hear each other. The angrier they are, the stronger they will have to shout to hear each other through that great distance.'

Then the saint asked, 'What happens when two people fall in love? They don't shout at each other but talk softly, why? Because their hearts are very close. The distance between them is very small...'

The saint continued, 'When they love each other even more, what happens? They do not speak, only whisper and they get even closer to each other in their love. Finally they even need not whisper, they only look at each other and that's all. That is how close two people are when they love each other.'

MORAL: When you argue do not let your hearts get distant, do not say words that distance each other more, else there will come a day when the distance is so great that you will not find the path to return.

Hate the sin, but love the sinner-Must Read!!!!!

Hate the sin, but love the sinner

22.09.2009

Criticize cheaters and swindlers, not struggling devotees

And that too with care and a sympathetic heart

Don't shout on his face, "you are a hypocrite"

Speak pure principles in a general gatherin

Don't focus too much on his external deficiencies

Appreciate his good past and sincere intentions and deeds

If you come down on him with force to prove him bad

You will break his heart, discourage him to become mad or sad

Don't make a fault, to counteract another fault

Then what makes us different from the one we criticize

Mend him, don't break him' Srila Prabhupada said

We want him to continue as a devotee till death

If operation is successful but patient is dead,

what have we accomplished by that bogus bet?

Lord is the owner, we are His sincere servants

Let us act on His behalf and not think we are autonomous

To err is human and to forgive is divine

Punish him with love, not to delight in his misery

Krsna is the Supreme Emperor of all sweetness

Sri Radha is His intimate and beloved sweetheart

Lord Caitanya is Sri Krsna in Radharani's mood

Then how can we deliver bitter goods?

We are not yamaraj, to chastise the sinful

We are Prabhupada's dog to safeguard his sweet will

We are dealing with Krsna's servants, however sinful they may be

Let us do it with care and caution, with no offences and prejudice

If punishment does not purify a person's heart

But pains him and make him pretentious in deeds

With bitterness for superiors and fear of authority

Then Prabhupada and acaryas will not be pleased

To hate the sin and love the sinner

Is the prerequisite for a punishment awarder

Pride and arrogance, wrath and revenge

Disqualify one from being a vaishnava leader

Pray to the Supreme Lord and beg Him for the right wisdom

Seek the shelter of Guru for spiritual strength and mercy

With humility at heart and good wishes for sinner

Approach the issue with Guru, Sadhu and sastra.

SPIRITUAL LIFE IS LIKE HOSPITAL STAY

PROCESS OF PURIFICATION MAY BE PAINFUL IN THE BEGINNING
ANALOGY - SPIRITUAL LIFE IS LIKE HOSPITAL STAY
When we go to the hospital it doesn't mean that when you walk in the door,
you are free from disease. Usually after you walk into the hospital there is
more pain than before we walked in. I walked into a hospital last week, I
was feeling quite when I walked in. But soon I was on an operating table,
they were cutting organs out of me and they were sawing me up and soon I was
lying there and soon they were asking me how many painkillers I want. Lot of
pain, so many restrictions, so many problems. So when you go into a hospital
as a patient, you can expect that things are going to get worst before they
are going to get better. Because that is the process of taking out the
disease. Restrictions of diet, restrictions of movements. And then you are
not even allowed out until they discharge you. Very difficult. So similarly
spiritual life is like coming into a hospital for the heart. And it is going
to be a lot of difficulties that we wouldn't have to deal with if we just
remained in the diseased condition without trying to solve.

Glories Of Navadwip Dham!

Glories Of Navadwip Dham

Excerpt from Navadwip Dham Mahatmya by Bhaktivinoda Thakur: Conversation between Lord Shankar and Mother Paravati.
"O Paravati, anyone who hears with devotion how Lord Gauranga traversed Navadwip with His kirtana party will never again fall into the ocean of material existence. O Paravati, you will not find any place comparable to Navadwip, any form of the Lord comparable to Gauranga, nor anything comparable to krsna-prema. The success of life, particularly for Vaishnavas, is attained in Navadwip by worshiping the Lord following the path of the inhabitants of Vraja."Shaving the head, fasting, shradha rites, bathing, and charity, which are prescribed at other tirthas are not prescribed in Navadwip. If one performs any pious activities in Navadwip, the effect is quickly dissipated, because all the knots of karma are cut. Just by seeing the Supreme Lord Gaurasundara, the knots in the heart are cut, as all doubts and material reactions are destroyed. O Paravati, for this reason the sages take shelter of Navadwip and perform pure devotional service to the lotus feet of Rädhä and Krsna. They see the various forms of the Lord in the different islands, sing the names of the Lord, and bathe in the waters of the Ganges. With great devotion they spend nine days visiting the nine islands and pass their lives in bliss while taking maha-prasada."If anywhere in Navadwip a chandala offers vishnu-prasäda to Lord Brahmä, he will certainly eat it. Even if the prasäda is dried up, stale, or brought from a distant place, one should immediately eat it without consideration of proper or improper time. In taking Gauranga maha-prasada, there is no rule concerning purity of place, giver, or receiver. O Paravati, if a person takes Gauranga maha-prasada up to the throat, he will develop devotion to Gauranga. In eating gaura-prasäda, there is no consideration of the fault of overeating."There is no consideration of fitness for hearing the glories of Navadwip. Dying in other tirthas gives either material enjoyment or liberation, but dying in Navadwip gives pure devotion to the Lord. In Navadwip there is no consideration of a faulty death-at an inauspicious time, in pain, in the house, or by accident. Death at other tirthas while practicing yoga or death in Kashi while absorbed in impersonal meditation become insignificant when compared to death in Navadwip."Living in Navadwip for one day is better than living in Prayäga, Varanasi, or any other tirtha for a kalpa. Whatever results one obtains by yoga, one achieves in Navadwip. With every step one attains the results of great sacrifices, and by lying down and sleeping in Navadwip, one gets the results of offering obeisance's. Just by taking an ordinary meal in Navadwip, one gets the results of eating the Lord's remnants. So, what more can I say regarding the faithful person who is devoted to chanting the holy name and taking Gauranga's remnants with faith and devotion?

Ganges forever flows to the sea without hindrance, let my attraction be constantly drawn to you

Excerpt from Journey Home-HH Radhanath Swami

As soon as something appears, it is vanishing by the power of time. But the beauty of the current of Ganga down deep is forever. If we go deep into a perception of this world with the spiritual perspective we find there everlasting truth which is not subject to the fickle waves of the joys and sorrows of this world. The Ganges begins in Gangotri in the Himalayas and is coming down and never stops its current till it reaches the sea. On the way so many impediments, giant trees fall onto the current, massive rocks and even mountains, yet mother Ganga flows around, over, somehow or other never stops its path to the sea. Similarly, whatever impediments still may be in our lives, they are like rocks in the river of life. And if we learn from the Ganga to always perceiver to somehow or other managed to get around through every impediment with the help of God. We will all reach the sea in our inner most aspiration. But as Ganges is flowing I was watching, there were trees, there were leaves, there were flowers, there dead buffalos, there was even some dead human corpses. If they just stay with the current, they will reach the sea, the ultimate destination of Ganga. But most things will be diverted to the banks. And as soon as it diverted to the banks it doesn't go further. Similarly, in spiritual path there will be many temptations, many diversions, many alternatives, inviting us to come out from the current of the teachings of the god, or scriptures, or the teaching of the guru. Only those remain in the current of that grace will reach the sea of human life to destination.

if you want to be happy in this world, then simply stop trying to be happy in this world....

Why Krsna descends in this material world ….

"G u r u m u k h a p a d m a v a k y a"

Why Krsna descends in this material world …..………...... Nectarean Mellows

Prahlad Maharaj made things very simple, if you want to be happy in this world, then simply stop trying to be happy in this world; then you would be happy, but as long as you are trying to be happy in this world, you have to suffer because it a place of death. Krsna has declared it is a place of suffering, but at the same time, the soul is pleasure seeking, the soul is sac-cid-ananda,, the soul must have ananda, it must have pleasure, the soul is searching for ecstasy, but we are looking in the wrong place but Krsna is so kind, so merciful, He descends in this world out of love and affection, for those who have rejected Him, rebelled against Him, due to envy, to reveal His form, to reveal the science of devotion, to reveal His pastimes, to actually reveal the spiritual world to us and invite us, come back home back to Godhead. Krsna reveals His beautiful qualities and His divine pastimes just to attract our hearts and one who takes shelter of Krsna, one who understands His birth and activities, never has to suffer in this material world again, but attains
Krsna's abode.

What is Real Wisdom?

It is hard to have deep relations. The reason is that more you are controlling, more you become addicted and condition to controlling spirit. You want to control everything and everyone and you can’t have deep relationships as long as you are controlling. So there is little love for people who are extremely successful. It’s always been that way. The only way they can be is if you take a humble position and really accept people as your equals. So here is the promise, people are fighting, fighting to get there and then when they get there they can’t give up what they have and at the same time, it’s a very lonely and unsatisfying life.

Srimad Bhagavatam is trying to break through the misconception of this type of dream for happiness. That is why Srila Prabhupada was so strong when he spoke there is no really no happiness in the material world. All the so called happiness is just on the level of this ever chaning waves and foaming bubbles. In the 1st canto Prabhupada says, "All of our happiness, all of our possessions, all of our relationships in this world are like foaming bubbles on the surface of the ocean of material existence and all these bubbles any movement will burst into oblivion." So are we going to be attached to the bubble or we are going to be depth of what’s deeper in the ocean. He krsna karuna sindhu. Deeper down there is ocean of Krsna’s mercy, Krsna’s kindness, Krsna’s love. That’s where we want to dive deep. The entire ocean is Krsna’s love. We are attached to the foaming bubbles. Jiv Jago Jiv jago.

Mahaprabhu say’s wake up sleeping souls. Usually waking us means to get us out of the sleep, it’s disruption. Just like if you are having a really sound sleep and the alarm clock rings, what’s your first reaction. You don’t have to say it publically. First reaction is it’s a disturbance. Is it not ? You are sleeping, you are dreaming that you are having a vacation with your lover on a tropical island and all of a sudden. Today there are so many alarm clock’s, different bells. All of sudden (Maharaj makes sound of alarm clock). You just turn it off. It’s disruptive but wakes you up. So the problems in this world are like alarm clocks, the reversals and difficulties. Because when things keep going our way we just stay in our dreams. Yes, we stay asleep. May be good dream, may be bad dream. When reversals comes, it is like a alarm clock to wake us up. But we have a choice of actually waking up from that alarm clock, now they have snooze controls. Snooze controls means, "Yeah I know I should wake up, I should become serious about my spiritual life, but later. I will do it after this and this and this is complete, then I will do it.

So some people just turn off the alarm clock and just go back to sleep. Some people do the snooze control thing, which means I knew I turn it off, I am little wake up, I will become serious like Kailash of Narad Muni. He was always on snooze control. Yes Gurudev, I know there is suffering, I know I should be chanting the name of God and associate with saintly people, but I will do it later. Just let me do this more, let me sleep little longer, then I will do it. After all last night I didn’t got so much sleep, just a little longer. Wake up. Life is short. You should take advantage, take the opportunity now and the tragedies that come upon us transform them into blessings .That’s wisdom, wisdom is not memorizing slokas, wisdom is applying the slokas to your life and what does it mean, here is a sloka

Tat te anupamkam
Wisdom is when there are reversals which appear to be a curse however painful, distasteful and unacceptable it may appear, to transform it into a blessing by trying to go deeper not deal with it on the level of foaming bubbles in the waves but to go deeper and this Srimad Bhagavatam is taking us deeper.

Die before you die!

Die before you die

For a devotee, death is not the end, for a devotee, death is the beginning, death is begging of entrance into a realm of eternity, knowledge and bliss. But for a materialist, death is simply the end of everything that we identify with, the end of our entire existence. So therefore a devotee doesn’t mind getting old. Because he knows he is utilizing this body, this mind and this intelligence in Krishna consciousness. As the body gets older the soul is getting closer and closer to that eternal spiritual youthful form, therefore it is said, die before you die. If we do that before we die we can attain eternal life. Devotees do not fear death. A sincere devotee only fears forgetting Krishna, forgetting Krishna means spiritual death.

Complacency

Complacency
Excerpt from a lecture by H.H. Radhanath Swami
Question: Maharaj, you mentioned in the lecture about how we take things, which we have been doing for several years, for granted. You gave the example of television. The same thing happens to us even in spiritual life because some things we have been doing for years together. (It's like) You just switch on the 'television' in the morning, and start chanting and get on with it. It becomes very mechanical. We tend to take it for granted after some time. So how do we avoid this?

Radhanath Maharaj: It is very important that we keep our intelligence tuned in to the good fortune that we have received and never take it for granted. That is why it is important to associate with people who truly understand the value of the gift that we have received and hearing from them.
When we read Srila Prabhupada's books, when we come to the classes of the devotees, when we listen to tapes, we should actually have this intent, not just to hear as an entertainment, but to understand that I desperately need to hear, to keep my consciousness aware of the good fortune I am receiving as well as the dangers of maya.
One of the greatest of all maya's arsenals to overcome us is the danger of complacency. Krishna tells us in the Gita, "We must give up egoism and lethargy - two terrible enemies." Lethargy can be both on the gross and subtle platform. On the gross platform, we are just lazy, we just want to sleep. We don't want to do work. We rather just not exert our senses, because it is difficult. This is a physical type of lethargy. But, the more subtle form of lethargy is to take the unlimited value of the fortune of Krishna Consciousness as something ordinary. Or as they say, "You take it for granted."
When we are new devotees, we are struck with wonder at our great fortune to be able to hear Srimad Bhagavatam. 'It is answering all my questions! The holy name is giving me relief from material existence. It is giving me a taste for Krishna', is our initial reaction. When we first come to the temple and eat prasadam and see the Deities, we can feel how it is liberating our soul. And the fact is that it is liberating our soul. But as we become familiar, we we take it to be ordinary. As we take it to be ordinary, we are not really accessing the benefits. So we must maintain great enthusiasm, and gratitude towards all the various subtleties of devotional service. It is very important. Because, if we become complacent in our devotional activities, then it is just a matter of time till maya again attracts us to perform her activities. We have to have determination. Therefore, when we come to class, when we read the books, we should really be trying to reconfirm the intense awareness of the great mercy we are receiving and reciprocate with that mercy. Every time we chant japa, we should really be praying and struggling to really be grateful and reciprocate with this great mercy we have received through Krishna's holy name.
It is a miracle. It is a wonder. But yes, we just turn on the station, "Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare." Then, when it is time for the next show, we (unfortunately) turn it off. We should be very conscious not to fall into that trap. Because if we do, we lose interest in that station and soon we will just start turning on other stations at that time. Maya will seduce us.
So we have to struggle against this complacency. We have to pray. We have to endeavour and especially, we must very attentively hear those messages that will reconfirm our awareness of the dangers of material life, the beauty and sweetness of Krishna, the glories of devotional service and how fortunate we are that by the causeless mercy of Guru and Krishna we have received this chance.

Be in this world but not of this world!

Devotee:

What is meant by self realization? Well one in the spiritual path also has to suffer, so what is that they are achieving in the spiritual path?

HH Radhanath Swami Maharaj:

We have already explained the difference between the body and the soul. Jesus Christ said “be in this world but not of this world”. The body will grow old get diseased and die. If your pleasure is coming from the body then ultimately all your pleasures will get frustrated. But if you are deriving pleasure from what is within, your happiness, your peace will never be frustrated. Because that pleasure is not subjected to the natural conditions of this physical world, that pleasure is on the spiritual platform.

Consciousness in itself is eternal. There is no such thing as temporary consciousness. Consciousness is the symptom of the presence of the soul and all consciousness is eternal because all consciousness is emanating from God. It is directly connected to God, who is the supreme source of all consciousness.

It is just like a Sun ray. You as part of God are like a Sun ray and God is like the Sun. Now even though a Sun ray may be on this earth, is the Sun ray is its home considered to be the earth or the Sun, which one? The Sun ray is right here on the earth, but the home of the Sun ray is the earth or the Sun? Because it is coming from the Sun, it is of the same quality as the Sun it is not as the same quality as the earth, it is not coming from the earth, it is just happens to be here. But it is connected through the Sun; it is almost like hanging from the Sun, right?

So, similarly are you conscious or unconscious. This world of matter is unconscious, all matter is unconscious, but the soul is conscious. Therefore the soul has nothing directly to do with this unconscious matter although it happens to be here, but its connection and its source is God, who is the supreme source of all consciousness. So if you are relating yourself, if the Sun ray is thinking I am part of this world, this earth. It isn’t but as long as it thinks it is, it is identifying with the deadness of this world, right? But if the Sun ray understands its real position that my real connection is to the Sun, my real source is the Sun, my real nature are part of the Sun. Even though the Sun ray is on this world and is watching all the deadness of this world it is not effected.

So similarly when we understand that we are part of the God, we are coming from God, our real home is with God, we are eternally connected to God. Even though we may be in this physical body watching the dead body go through the process of old age, disease and death, as long as we are remembering our connection to God there is no suffering. Body is suffering but the soul is finding its pleasure in God not in this world. The soul is finding pleasure where real pleasure is, within your own existence.
