Man proposes God disposes

Here is a song by Shri Purandaradasaru which narrates that 'Man proposes God disposes'.
In Kannada there is a saying 'tAnoMdu bagedare daivavoMdu bageyitu'. Whatever may be the man's wish,
but without the God's wish nothing will be successful.

rAga: pUrvikalyANi
tALa: aTTa
racane: shrI puraMdaradAsaru

harichitta satya namma hari chitta satya
nara chittake baMdudu lavalEsha naDeyadu |hari|

maDadi/sudati makkaLa bhAgya bayasOdu narachitta
maduvyAgadiruvudu harichittavu |hari|

kudure aMdaNa aane bayasOdu narachitta
pAdachAriyAgodu harichittavayya |hari|

vidhavidha yAtreya bayasOdu naracitta
odagi baruva rOga haricittavayya /hari/

sadA annadAnava bayasOdu naracitta
udarakke aLuvudu haricittavayya /hari/

dharaNiyanu ALabEkeMbudu naracitta
parara sEvisuvudu haricittavayya /hari/

puraMdara viThThalana bayasOdu narachitta
duritava kaLevudu harichittavayya |hari|

Meaning of the song:

God's wish (haricitta) is only the truth (satya)
Nothing (naDeyadu) will be materialised (lavalEsha-even a bit)
by man's (nara) wish (cittake)

Man wishes (naracitta) to have (bayasOdu) good wife (sudati/wife) and children (makkaLa bhAgya)
but failure (Agadiruvudu) to get marry (maduve) is the wish of God (haricittavayya)

Man wishes (naracitta) to have (bayasOdu) horse (kudure), chariot (aMdaNa), elephants (Ane)
but God's wish (haricittavayya) is he should become pedestrian (pAdacAriyAgOdu)

Man wishes (naracitta) to travel (yAtreya) so many places (vidha vidha)
but by God's wish (haricitta) he will fell sick (odagi baruva rOga)

Man wants (bayasOdu naracitta) to donate (dAnava) always (sadA) food/rice (anna) to others
but he will cry (aLuvudu) for food (udarakke) by God's wish (haricittavayya)

Man wants (naracitta) to rule (ALabEkeMbudu) the city/world (dharaNiyanu)
but he will become servant (sEvisuvudu) to serve others (parara) by God's wish (haricittavayya)

Man wishes (bayasOdu naracitta) to have Purandara vittala
but to come out (kaLeyOdu) of agonies (duritava) is the God's wish (haricittavayya)

Cooked at racing speed!

The pujari put down the plate, set the bell, recited the mantras and then went off the altar, to let Krsna eat. Then the puris flew out through the curtains! Such things are happening even in our times. the deities are active and are not just passively present!

There are stories that you have these offerings – offerings are supposed to be on time – and then you have these offerings that are cooked at racing speed! The ghee is extremely hot, and the puris sort of fly into the ghee and fly out of the ghee at the same time  -  cooked on the outside but the inside is completely uncooked!

So such flying puris were at one time offered.  The pujari put down the plate, set the bell, recited the mantras and then went off the altar, to let Krsna eat.  Then the puris flew out through the curtains! Such things are happening.

In the Bombay Juhu temple of Sri Sri Radha Rasabihari, there was a Muslim tailor and he was making clothes for the deities. They asked him to make a new set, and he said:  'I have to go to the altar to take the measurements.'

So they said:  'You have made so many clothes for the deity, you have the measurements.'

He said:  'No, no, the size is changing.'

If you see the kind of offerings they are making in Bombay, then it's no wonder that the size is changing! So even in our times the deities are active and are not just passively present!

Is it possible to be eternally beautiful and young?

what we are looking for in this world is not available here – it's available in the spiritual world!

(HH Kadamba Kanana Swami, Pretoria Arts Campus, Pretoria, South Africa, 14th September 2012) Lecture: The perfect soul mate – Where to look

There was a movie called 'Shangri-La,' and it's a story about a valley somewhere in the Himalayas.  And there are these people who lived there and they always stayed young and beautiful.  A man goes into the mountain and by accident walks into this valley, and the people receive him and everything is wonderful!  But after a while he gets a little homesick and thinks about the people he left behind, and he thinks:

'I would like to visit them and tell them about this amazing place.  If only I could tell the world!'

So he decides to leave Shangri-La, and he goes out of the valley.  As he comes out of the valley the ageing that didn't happen to him all this time that he was there, suddenly happens!  Then you see all these lines on his face.  He gets old within 10 seconds and within one minute, he is old!  It's scary.

The same thing happens to us.  Just take a picture of yourself once a month and then put these all next to each other.  After a while the bags start showing, and hair starts growing where it shouldn't be growing, and all kinds of things – that's old age!  What shall we say?  So, do you love your beautiful princess who has  grown old?  Now what? Is it still love?  You tolerate it, and then there is another beautiful young girl moving in next door, and the mind starts to wonder.  Then he goes to that girl next door.  You'll still love him after that?  The rat!

You can see how the world is full of elements that we don't want.  We want to be eternally beautiful, we want to be eternally young, but that's only possible in the spiritual world, and not here.  So our desires have their roots in the spiritual world, and therefore what we are looking for in this world is not available here – it's available in the spiritual world!

Krsna is always thinking, deeply absorbed in thoughts of His devotees. That is the nature of Krsna. Even when a devotee is not thinking of Krsna, Krsna is still thinking of that devotee. That is the nature of Krsna, because Krsna is very faithful unlike some of His devotees who are sometimes temporarily a little less faithful. In this way Krsna is unlimitedly kind.

Always a well wisher!

(HH Kadamba Kanana Swami, Pretoria, South Africa, 15th September 2012) Lecture: Initiation talk

There  was a disciple of Srila Prabhupada's who came in the very beginning and later he was not so strict any more.  He wasn't following all the rules and so on.  Once on a telephone call the secretary, Tamal Krishna Maharaja, was speaking to this senior devotee who was not following all his vows.

So Prabhupada told Tamal Krishna Maharaja:

'Tell him that if he doesn't follow the vows then I will reject him!'

Tamal Krishna Maharaja was shocked, and said to the devotee:

'Prabhupada said that if you don't follow the vows, then he will reject you!'

When he put the phone down, Tamal Krishna Maharaja asked Prabhupada:

'Would you have really rejected him?'

Prabhupada said:

'Of course not.  I just said that to scare him.'

Because Prabhupada was  ever a well wisher – always a well wisher, always.  Like, as a parent, sometimes you tell your son:

'If you don't shape up then ship out.  I don't want to see your face again.'

But you don't mean it since he's your son!
