Intensifying Our Attachment to Krishna

Posted: 06 Jun 2011 01:30 PM PDT

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, 2005)

At one point all the little attachments to Krishna, just begin to take over. It's just like certain games where you gradually fill up the whole board – like 'Go'…don't know if you have ever played 'Go', but you have the black and white pieces, and you put on more and more pieces. Eventually you fill up the whole board – well almost the whole board. So something like that, where the whole attachment is getting more and more dense! Just our whole life begins to be made up of attachments to Krishna:

'Sandra nandana vishaya satmanah'

And the attachment begins to intensify…deeper and deeper! So this is the purpose! So we begin in a humble way. Rome wasn't built in a day! It's a fact when they say:

"Rome wasn't built in a day!"

But have you seen Rome? Have you really seen Rome? It's something else. Come on….you know that Amsterdam is just a crummy City….New York is just glass and light…..just glass, steel, light and some stones! But what is there really? But with Rome – my God! Rome have their mosaics, and they are so fine that you cannot see any joints! Not just on the ceiling, but on the wall, and the mosaic panels are made of little coloured pieces of stones, glass and God knows what! But they are so intricately made that you cannot see any joints….that's not easy. So Rome wasn't built in a day, without a doubt!

So, we just begin humbly, and we begin to develop some attachments for Krishna, that's the idea – some attachments, and we do some – and how do we do it? By doing a little service without asking anything in return. That's exciting, and give it your best! You are giving it your best without anything in return, and that's when the devotion comes out and there is some taste in that – we develop a little attachment. You come to do it again……..and you do it again, so it becomes like:

"Yeah the taste is there!"

You begin……you continue, and it then begins to grow! So you do more of it……more and more!

'Sandra nandana vishyaya satmanah'

Until the whole 'Go' board is full of pieces and gradually it is covered with attachments to Krishna in different ways! So we are working towards that goal!

No more darkness

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, Durban – South Africa, April 2011)

The more we are chanting the maha-mantra, the more we are becoming freed from the sinfulness of Kali, and that is of course the first benefit of chanting – that one becomes freed from the influence of ignorance and darkness.  One meaning of the name Krsna – 'Krish' is dark and 'na' means no – no more darkness.  So 'Krsna' means that we become free from the influence of ignorance in the material world.  Then comes the other translation of the word 'Krsna', which means – 'Krish' for a person or the one who can attract, and 'na', for ananda, for happiness.  Then we come to (Sanskrit) the higher taste in Krsna Consciousness, where we become attracted to Krsna.

To Always Glorify Krishna

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, Melbourne, March 2011)

In one of the first 'Back To Godhead' – on the front page there was a picture of a butcher, who was attacking a cow with an axe.
Prabhupada said:

"What is this?"

"Well…it's an article against meat eating".

So Prabhupada said:

"We are not against anything. We are for Krishna! So, it is not our business to be against this and against that! No, it is our business to be for Krishna, and for Krishna means no meat, because Krishna doesn't accept meat."

But, we are not singling out so many things – we are against this, and against that. No Prabhupada said:

"We are for Krishna".

Our standard is simply for the desire of Krishna. Whatever Krishna desires, and that is in the Bhagavad Gita, where he makes his desires clear!

Also when dealing with Kali Yuga, we cannot just spend all our time saying:

" How horrible people are, how degraded people are, how corrupted people are and so on".

That will take us away from Krsna. If we talk the whole day about how bad the Kali Yuga is, then how much will we talk of how wonderful Krsna is?

In that way you become what you deal with! That's very dangerous! Therefore, we should simply focus on our own business, and that's the strength of our movement! We are simply going to glorify Krsna everywhere and always!

Star flowers.

Star flowers.

jahnavi | June 7, 2011 at 3:08 am | Categories: Uncategorized | URL: http://wp.me/p1Fgd-aJ

When I'm traveling I try and keep at least my morning walk consistent. While I walk I chant on my japa beads. It's always my favorite part of the day. When I was young, we'd always pick flowers on any walk to take home and put on our altar. The habit is firmly stuck, and I try and find an altar space or a deity, or a dear friend to give a flower, whenever I'm out.

I found these unusual star flowers the other morning while I walked around the upscale suburbs of New Haven, Connecticut.

Now I'm back New York city, where I crave trees and flowers like a tall drink of water on a hot day. As I walk through the streets, bustling and clouded with smoke and noise, it's a delicious surprise to come across a cool, green walled garden. Or even a stray rose, peering over a fence.

Mobile phone safety The real truth about the hazards, told by independent scientists

Mobile phone safety The real truth about the hazards, told by independent scientists

Source : http://www.psrast.org/mobileng/mobilstarteng.htm

SUMMARY

A considerable body of evidence proves, beyond reasonable doubt, that microwave radiation from mobile phones and cordless phones cause a significantly increased risk for brain tumors. In addition, increasing evidence is indicating that it causes disturbed brain function, damage to the genes and other disturbances..
The reason is that present safety norms allow the use of mobile phones that emit far too strong radiaton to be safe.
These safety norms are contradicted by scientific evidence. Research indicates that much weaker radiation than what is allowed in mobile and cordless phones may have harmful effects.

Conclusion

  • You should be very restrictive with using mobile phones and cordless phones. Reduce the usage to very few and brief calls. In stead, use landlines as much as possible.
  • People below 20 should use mobile phones that allow SMS messages only, but no talking, because the risks are far higher in young people.
  • Further buildup of the mobile phone net must be stopped. Steadily increasing evidence indicates that it is too harmful to be acceptable for common usage. Moreover, it has been repeatedly confirmed that the radiation from base stations is harmful to health.
  • For more, see: "How long is it safe to call?".

Mobile phone = cellular phone = cellphone

Caitanya Caritamrta - The Essence Of Everything!

(Kadamba Kanana Swami)

The Caitanya Caritamrta is the very essence of everything! The Caitanya
Caritamrta is the one book that provides us with our identity.

Sometimes when we are looking at the Pandavas and all of the other heroes
of the Mahabharata they are impressive. Arjuna can fight with ten thousand
men, and that's quite the number. Just think about it ten thousand is a
big number! He can singly defeat ten thousand men. Is there any Arjunas
here?

We are lucky if we can defeat one, right? I always say that there are two
types of people in this world those who are strong and those who are fast!
You know what I mean! With Bhima, do you realise that he is stronger then
Asterix and Obelix?

Do you realize that even Spiderman is nothing compared to Bhima, who is
stronger then ten thousand elephants. I saw Spiderman having a lot of
trouble stopping a train, but if you have strength of ten thousand
elephants then you just knock the train off the railway track! That is if
you want to.

So, my point is that although the heroes of the Mahabharata and the heroes
of the Bhagavatam are very amazing, with wonderful personalities. In some
ways they are further away from us, but when we look at Caitanya
Caritamrta, we find that we are dealing with devotees who are like us. Many
are grhasthas by maintaining their families, and yet they are chanting Hare
Krsna!

In the Caitanya Caritamrta, we are following the process of chanting Hare
Krsna, and by following the four regulative principles. Therefore, more
than anywhere else in the Caitanya Caritamrta, we find our identity as
practitioners. After all we are following the process of sadhana bhakti
this is also outlined in the teachings from Rupa and Sanatana, which are
very essential chapters in the Caitanya Caritamtra. In these teachings we
find how the process of sadhana bhakti is outlined – or devotional service
is practised. The Caitanya Caritamrta in particular addresses pure
devotional service, where one is naturally attracted to Krsna.

This World is a Fools Paradise!

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, 2005)

It's difficult to think that this world is paradise. Even on LSD the world
was a paradise – for a while and then it went the other way! I did take it
and I particularly know how it feels. It was in an exotic Country, and I
thought:

" I hope there are no snakes in these fields".

The next moment, I saw a whole field of snakes…all these snakes! The whole
field was full of snakes! I thought:

" Stay calm… turn around. Just turn your back and look the other direction!
Just look in the other direction!"

And there were no snakes on the other side…lucky. What if there would have
been snakes on the other side. It could have been easy to stay calm and
walk away. So, what can we say! Anyone who thinks that this world is
paradise….Srila Prabhupada says:

" He's right! This world is a paradise! It is…. fools paradise! It's a
fools paradise!"

So therefore, one who is looking for knowledge begins to think deeper and
sees that happiness is the distress in this world, and then says:

"What's the point in trying to enjoy it, when you are destined to get
distressed".

Therefore we want some liberation. We want some relief from this distress!
