Crossroads

My feet are adorned
with the anklebells
of a thousand roads.
Where to walk
where to run
where to dance?
I trust not
the illegible directions
I have scrawled upon my hand
with the ink of my mind.
The dust of uncertainty
rises from these roads
to sting my eyes.
I must close my eyes
I must raise my arms
I must spin and spin -
the music
of my anklebells
shall swirl around me
in golden ribbons.
The music of God
is my map.
If I only
walk
run
dance
dance
dance!
the world shall open
in a divine symphony.

Being Indebted

Posted: 22 May 2011 02:22 PM PDT

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, 2002)

Being indebted is a very natural feeling whenever some love is given. We experience this also in this world. If somebody in a very loving way goes out of his way for us, and really takes a lot of trouble for us – we can never forget it, and we always feel indebted. Later if that person needs our help – we'll help him – spontaneously we want to help him. We feel indebted to this person. We don't think:

" I have a debt to him, and I got to pay. I have to help him".

No! We want to because, he lovingly helped us so much in the past. So that is only material, so what to speak of the spiritual platform. The sense of feeling grateful for what one receives is so great that one wants to just always do whatever one can for that person, and that's how it worked with Prabhupada. The disciples at one point in the final days said to Prabhupada:

"Prabhupada you are driving us mad with love! You are driving us mad!"

And Prabhupada did. He gave so much mercy, and so much kindness in his teaching and he was just bringing his intimate disciples to a higher levels of Krishna Consciousness, which was driving them mad with love – he did. Therefore, the sense of how could you ever forget Prabhupada! So in the same way if we get krpā-siddha – that's is such a great thing – the wonderful love for Krishna, and we would naturally want to pay him back again and again!

Becoming His instrument

Posted: 22 May 2011 01:10 PM PDT

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, Sydney, March 2011)

The well-wisher of all – that's a noble thought.  And that is the mood of Krsna and the mood of Krsna's devotee.  Therefore those who chant the Holy Name of Krsna, they get into that mood.  Instead of thinking about themselves, 'me, I and mine, and as much as I can get!'  To please and see what one can manipulate and get out of people… instead of that, they think of the benefit of all.  The benefit of everyone, not only my happiness, not my happiness based on the suffering of others – no, our happiness to include the happiness of all!  That is something, and if we can take up that, then that's a very great goal.

One can find the inspiration to really take that up by chanting the Hare Krsna Maha-mantra, because when we chant the Hare Krsna Maha-mantra, we become purified from our lower nature and then we begin to develop an attraction to serving Krsna.  The more we serve Krsna, the more taste we get and the more we become dedicated to serving Krsna, to the point where we become His instrument.  And when we are so dedicated that we become His instrument, then we can be the well-wisher of all living beings and then that becomes our own meditation.  Then we are on fire!   Then we are so inspired!  Then our whole life becomes meaningful

Vyasa-puja 2011 Initiation video

Posted: 22 May 2011 12:06 PM PDT

An inspiring event took place on April 29th 2011, as the Radhadesh community witnessed five college students receive initiated from Kadamba Kanana Swami. He spoke of the importance of the vows and performed the fire sacrifice. Eight other devotees joined the students, including one seventy-year-old Dutchman, who became Jagannath Dasa. The students' spiritual names are listed here:

Bisvajit Chandra Dasa became Vrndavan Dasa.
Gabi became Gayatri Devi Dasi.
Kumari Dasi became Kumari Kunti Devi Dasi.
Nimai Chaitanya Dasa became Visvambar Chaitanya Dasa.
Sukumari took second initiation.

Symptoms of Kali Yuga (part 7)

Transcribed by Dips Prabhu

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, 2011)
I think there is one devotee in our movement who is really doing a significant service at the moment and his name is Vaisheshika. He is a disciple of Srila Prabhupada who also is a Spiritual Master in America, who is having a program for weekend warriors – He is the founder of the weekend warriors, and weekend warriors: Yes, men and woman, old and young are all going out on the weekends and distributing some books.

It is very well organised and taken care of. For example when they take a new person out on book distribution they say: 'For the first few times you can not distribute books you can only watch' – He said that if someone is a natural they will disobey their order and will start doing it! but if somebody is afraid then they'll watch for three times and they will then feel good.

It makes it supportive, it is going on, this program is slowly catching on in California where he works – it is catching on in England and it is catching on in South Africa – It is definitely going to catch on!

I will do whatever I can to help that, because otherwise if we don't do something about Kali Yuga then we will just sit here waiting for Kali Yuga to come through the door and gradually it grows over the doors, it goes through the windows, the mode of ignorance – and that is how it is – the business of this movement is to put out the transcendental sound vibration everywhere – and of course we do not want to pressurise ..I am proposing the gentle way, like Vaishaishika was saying: "We used to think that in Sankirtana and Book Distribution you had to climb over the wall, sneek in illegally, duck the security, distribute books and that was real Sankirtana"

He says "Nowadays, we just ask for permission and most of the times we get it!"…. so that was a good point….

Breaking India-Part-1

Breaking India, Part-1

We don't identify ourselves even as Hindus because it was only the people on the other side of the river Sindhu who perceived the followers of Vedic culture as Hindus. Vedic culture is for everyone. India is the Spiritual Leader of the World. In other words, India is the super power in terms of spiritual heritage. America is already a super-power in terms of machines. But the people living there are already miserable. They cant sleep or they cant go outside freely, because there are gangsters of drunkards roaming around the city and would kill us anytime.

Why did the British, Dutch, Portuguese and everyone else fought to conquer India, because India is rich in everything. Even materially everything is available in India. Food that grows so easily in the Indian soil. So many incarnations of the Lord are in India. It's the best place in the world for spiritual practice. The culture is still conducive for spiritual practice. But people here are looking at the west for foolish machine advancements which cannot make them happy.

Vedic culture has been all around the world since time immemorial. The archaelogical findings have been hidden by the people or big shots(politicians and scientists and those whose main aim was to make people think what they want them to think) who did not want to promote the vedic culture but their self interests. There were big statues of Maha Vishnu found in Mexico, Russia and many other countries. But these were kept hidden from the public.

People want to promote themselves and not God. Atleast the Christians and the Islamists promote Jesus and Allah while the false hindu saints today promote themselves.

A sense of separation has been created by the politicians among the people. One example is, in the Pakistan's Newpaper called Dawn, whenever they mention about India, they say only as enemy. So in this way the politicians have already created civil war among the people.

There are benefits provided by the government for Christians so if you get converted to a Christian you get allowances. This way people tend to convert themselves. The politicians, they have no idea for doing any good to the public. They have only self-interest to amass more wealth when in power. So they create vote-banks for themselves by creating or supporting groups. They have created groups such as Dalits, Aryans, Dravidians etc.

In Sri Lanka, the refugees were offered a place to live in other countries provided they get registered themselves as Christians. So when living with a family, a person would think about the children and wife and then this seems to be the only way to emigrate from the place which is full of riots.

Loneliness/Emptiness within the heart!

We may have all material facilities in our life. But the soul can never
find satisfaction in computer programs or other games/sports in
reality. There r different levels of pleasure.
1.Body-Sensual pleasure
2.Mind-Winning a chess Game
3.Intelligence-Writing a successful computer program
4.Soul-Spiritual bliss obtained by Devotional Service to Krishna
Actually we all feel the loneliness of being separated from God. In
order to forget this loneliness we fill our lives with
sports,cinema,dating/relationships with the opposite
gender, children, family. But none of these things give us complete
satisfaction for ourself.

And now, now become a brahmana!

via kksblog.com by noreply@blogger.com (Jan) on 26/02/11

Prabhupada pointed out that the brahminical initiation is not given because someone is a brahmana, or someone is qualified - but rather that it is given as an opportunity. That is the way it works in a Vaisnava community.
In the world, one is first qualifying and then the glorious day comes and: "Here is your diploma. Dada!" You get the funny hats and so on, and then a big ceremony and you get it. You are so happy, for five minutes, especially that your study days are over.

All right, that's good. But in Krishna consciousness it's totally different, we are getting the initiation before we are qualified. "
"All right, here is a brahminical thread, take it! - and now become a brahmana.
" We saw a slight inclination towards brahminical behaviour. We saw a little spark. We saw that there was some tendency to follow the scriptures, to dedicate to the scriptures - now, really do it! Now live up to it!"
That's the idea.

So the challenge is there for us, and maybe throughout our life. These initiations are not a one time event, but rather they are a lifetime mission, to make it through, to live up to it. It's not so easy to live up to it, and even if there are moments of weakness - there can be - but the vow doesn't go away. It just stays. That's the thing. It's like, one might temporarily fall away from the standards but the vow is just still there, and it will just stay.

Sometimes I point out, that therefore if you don't follow the vow, then it's there to beat your heart, then it just beats our heart, it just reminds you, of what you are supposed to be.

But if you take the vow, then it's something like Krishna planting pearls. In that story where Krishna plants the pearls and they produce many pearl bushes, which everyone thought was impossible. Nanda Maharaja said: "Krishna, pearls, you know, you can't plant pearls!" Krishna said: "No, you can, you can!" "Krishna, no Krishna.""

But every day, Krishna took care of his pearls and watered them with milk, and they did produce very nice bushes with pearls – so many!
Krishna said: "See, see!"

So in the same way, we can plant these vows of initiation and they will produce so many pearls. So that we should understand.

Holding anything back ?

Krsna is quite demanding.
He is merciful but demanding at same time. Sometimes Krsna does gives some extraordinary mercy just like that - but in the end He is demanding, because Krsna is not looking just what you do - sometimes it is said that Krsna is looking at what you are holding back.

Not that Krsna has no appreciation for what we are doing-He does.
It's said He is Acutya. Never fails to appreciate a tiniest little bit of service done. But especially when we become little bit more serious about spiritual life then Krsna starts to work on what we are holding back.

grab the most valuable thing

Sent to you by dinesh via Google Reader:

via kksblog.com by noreply@blogger.com (aatish) on 1/03/11

Srila Bhaktisiddhanta ,He was doing a program quite close to the Ganga – and there was an earthquake on that particular day. This earthquake suddenly created a flash flood.
From one moment to the next, the whole area become flooded by the water of the Ganga. Srila Bhaktisiddhanta become inspired with that and starts to speak of Maha Pralaya- the great destruction of the Universe by the big flood.
He said "When the Maha Pralaya comes then you can quickly grab the most valuable thing that you can grab and then try run for your life."
He then said: "You can take Bhagavad-Gita, Srimad Bhagavatam and Caitanya Caritamrta." …"But, if it get's too much to carry then you can let Bhagavad-Gita go - and you keep on running with the Bhagavatam and Caitanya Caritamrta.
But if that also becomes too much to carry then you let Bhagavatam go and keep Caitanya Caritamrta, because from that everything can be restored."
So, this is the principle of reading one book. We are living in a modern age, it is called the information age, and everything is in our finger tips. We live in this age and to some extent we may take some advantage of it.
But our program is one book. Go deep in one book. Austerity in this age is that one must limit himself, because the world offer us unlimited varieties.
If we can just limit ourselves and just take shelter of Srimad Bhagavatam, Bhagavad Gita and Caitanya Caritamrta then everything will come automatically.

We have to endeavour again and again

One has to say no. No! - to the lower nature and:
Yes! - to spiritual activity.
Every time - again. Never is there a time when we've done it, when we are successful.
"Now I've done it, now I've conquered my lower nature. Now I've conquered the material energy."
No! Again and again one has to conquer. Again and again.
And as soon as we stop, the material energy takes over again.

Just like the jungle: The plants, they just take over and you have to cut and to trim again and again, and they then grow back.

Or like the beard, or like the hair, every time again you have to shave – didn't shave this morning... It just never stops. It never stops. It keeps on growing'
"It's too much, this shaving."
Again and again - that's the nature of spiritual life!

Projecting our desires to cover reality!

Sent to you by dinesh via Google Reader:

via kksblog.com by noreply@blogger.com (aatish) on 6/03/11

When the mode of passion is afflicting us then the intelligence becomes distorted by our desires and we cover reality because we 'wanted it to be so beautiful.' Therefore Puranjan wanted Puranjani to be so extremely beautiful so he made her even more beautiful than she even was and therefore was saying;
'My Dear Goddess of fortune, Where is your lotus flower?
My Dear Laxmi Devi you must have dropped it somewhere'
and of course in doing so Puranjan was also fruitive - so at the same time he was flattering her by comparing her to Laxmi which made her feel kind of really special.
It is like friend of mine - we were walking in the forest - this was in the karmi days - a beautiful girl was sitting near a pond with water lilies and my friend just walked into the pond took a water lily and put it at her feet and she melted on the spot!!!
And I couldn't believe it - she melted on the spot!
So, it works like that, that's called "romantic,"
a little flattery and everything is done!
So, both of them were actually investing in their desires.
The hope for happiness is covering the material energy and it is making it even better that it actually is - and that is called the mode of passion and that is the inevitable need in the material world because the desire for happiness is so deep and grave that we just don't get it and we are looking for it and it's not here - it's not there….. and finally there is an opportunity – it has some defects but we just edit it out with the photo shop!
Everything looks good in photo shop and it was not invented on the computer - it was for a long time in our mind! So many things and details we took out to make it just a little better. - but unfortunately after a little while we come down to reality and one becomes aware of the limitations of the material energy.
