Focus your mind in this very moment-(sounds similar to "Be Here Now"-George Harrison)

From The Secret Daily Teachings
Stress, worry, and anxiety simply come from projecting your thoughts into the future and imagining something bad. This is focusing on what you don't want! If you find that your mind is projecting into the future in a negative way, focus intensely on NOW. Keep bringing yourself back to the present.
Use all of your will, and focus your mind in this very moment, because in this moment of now there is utter peace.

May the joy be with you,

Today marks the 6 year anniversary of the day when my wife and I committed ourselves to the worship of Sri Sri Radha Madan Mohan! We did a very small but very sweet ceremony in our home. We had a very beautiful abhisheka with pancha gavya (milk, yogurt, ghee, honey and sugar water). We allowed all present to participate fully (even the 2 and 3 year olds). It was a bit chaotic because of the kids but it was a lot of fun. I hope that the experience of bathing Radha Madan Mohan will deeply affect the little ones. Just see how beautiful my Lords are!

How much one has realized Krishna

Devotee (3): Srila Prabhupada, how..., how is one able to draw thedistinction between working very hard for Krsna and over-endeavoring?

Prabhupada: Hm. What is that -- phalena pariciyate. By the result youcan understand. By serving Krsna, he will understand more aboutKrsna. Krsna will be clear to him. That is the test, because it issaid, sevonmukhe hi jihvadau svayam. Krsna cannot be realized byso-called speculation, but if you render service to Krsna, then Krsnawill reveal to you. Revelation. So, he, how much service he is giving, that will be tested how much he has realized Krsna. This is the test.If Krsna is still vague idea to him, then he has not advanced. This isthe test. Just like if you are eating something, then you will feelsatisfaction. You are hungry, you have been given some food, but youcannot say that "I am eating, also I am not satisfied in my hunger."That cannot be. If you are actually serving Krsna, then Krsna willreveal to you. You will know what is Krsna, asamsayam samagram mam, without any doubt, and fullness. Here is the test. If somebody comes,"What is Krsna," you say, "Yes, I am serving Krsna, but I do not knowwhat is Krsna". What is his service? He must know, because here it issaid, asamsayam samagram, without any doubt... (end)

Controlling the Mind by Practice

Sent to you by dinesh via Google Reader:

via Jyoti Pahuja's Facebook Notes by Jyoti Pahuja on 1/05/11

 [Bhagavad Gita 6.35]

śrī-bhagavān uvāca

asaḿśayaḿ mahā-bāho

mano durnigrahaḿ calam

abhyāsena tu kaunteya

vairāgyeṇa ca gṛhyate

Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa said: O mighty-armed son of Kuntī, it is undoubtedly very difficult to curb the restless mind, but it is possible by suitable practice and by detachment.

PURPORT

In the present age no one can observe the strict rules and regulations of placing oneself in a sacred place, focusing the mind on the Supersoul, restraining the senses and mind, observing celibacy, remaining alone, etc. By the practice of Kṛṣṇa consciousness, however, one engages in nine types of devotional service to the Lord. The first and foremost of such devotional engagements is hearing about Kṛṣṇa. This is a very powerful transcendental method for purging the mind of all misgivings. The more one hears about Kṛṣṇa, the more one becomes enlightened and detached from everything that draws the mind away from Kṛṣṇa. By detaching the mind from activities not devoted to the Lord, one can very easily learn detachment.

This is practical because by hearing about Kṛṣṇa one becomes automatically attached to the Supreme Spirit. This attachment is called pareśānubhava, spiritual satisfaction. It is just like the feeling of satisfaction a hungry man has for every morsel of food he eats. The more one eats while hungry, the more one feels satisfaction and strength. Similarly, by discharge of devotional service one feels transcendental satisfaction as the mind becomes detached from material objectives. It is something like curing a disease by expert treatment and appropriate diet. Hearing of the transcendental activities of Lord Kṛṣṇa is therefore expert treatment for the mad mind, and eating the foodstuff offered to Kṛṣṇa is the appropriate diet for the suffering patient. This treatment is the process of Kṛṣṇa consciousness.

[Bhagavad Gita 8.8]

abhyāsa-yoga-yuktena

cetasā nānya-gāminā

paramaḿ puruṣaḿ divyaḿ

yāti pārthānucintayan

He who meditates on Me as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, his mind constantly engaged in remembering Me, undeviated from the path, he, O Pārtha, is sure to reach Me.

PURPORT

In this verse Lord Kṛṣṇa stresses the importance of remembering Him. One's memory of Kṛṣṇa is revived by chanting the mahā-mantra, Hare Kṛṣṇa. By this practice of chanting and hearing the sound vibration of the Supreme Lord, one's ear, tongue and mind are engaged. This mystic meditation is very easy to practice, and it helps one attain the Supreme Lord. Puruṣam means enjoyer. Although living entities belong to the marginal energy of the Supreme Lord, they are in material contamination. They think themselves enjoyers, but they are not the supreme enjoyer. Here it is clearly stated that the supreme enjoyer is the Supreme Personality of Godhead in His different manifestations and plenary expansions as Nārāyaṇa, Vāsudeva, etc.

This practice will purify him, and at the end of his life, due to his constant chanting, he will be transferred to the kingdom of God. Yoga practice is meditation on the Supersoul within; similarly, by chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa one fixes his mind always on the Supreme Lord.

- So therefore mind can be contolled by practicing devotional service of which Hearing and Chanting are the most powerful transcendetal methods of purifying one's existence.

Quotes to ponder!

Real modesty is to be disgusted with improper activities.
- Krishna, Srimad Bhagavatam 11.19.41

Canakya Pandita said that there are two envious living entities -- the snake and the envious man
The envious man is more dangerous than a snake because a snake can be subdued by charming
mantras or by some herbs, but an envious person cannot be pacified by any means.
-Srila Prabhupada (Srimad Bhagavatam 4.22.11)

Tolerance means to patiently endure unhappiness.
- Krishna, Srimad Bhagavatam 11.19.36

Cleanliness is detachment from fruitive activities.
- Krishna, Srimad Bhagavatam 11.19.37
Every endeavor is preceded by an intent. If one's intent or inspiration for an activity is by nature fruitive,
one should understand oneself to be unclean. Fruitive refers to possesiveness.

Happiness Results in Health

Wisdom from Patanjali's Yoga Sutras

Sara Bock • April 18, 2011 • Comments (0)

Happiness Results in Health

According to the sutras, regardless of one's culture, religion, family traditions or race, universal principles exist that apply to all human beings.

Good health and happiness go hand in hand. When we are healthy, we have energy to do things that make us happy. On the flipside, psychological studies have shown that happy people live longer and healthier lives. The question is, how do we become happy? Propaganda may lead us to believe that acquiring material goods leads to happiness. We work hard to earn money to buy the latest trends. Yet something is missing. Frustration is still there. No matter how much we get, it is never enough.

The Yoga Sutras, compiled by Patanjali, teach us about the eight limbs of yoga, an alternative path tohappiness and health. The physical exercises practiced in yoga studios are one of the eight limbs. The other limbs focus on breath, morality, meditation, and other aspects of spiritual living. The first limb is called Yamas, or universal principles of morality. According to the sutras, regardless of one's culture, religion, family traditions or race, universal principles exist that apply to all human beings. Following these principles, not acquisition of material goods, is the key to happiness.

These principles of morality are:
1) Ahimsa (non-violence/compassion) – includes being nonviolent to other living beings in thought, words, and deeds. Following a vegetarian diet is one way to practice ahimsa. Ahimsa also refers to being non-violent to oneself.

2) Satya (truthfulness) – besides not speaking lies to others, satya includes being honest with ourselves.

3) Asteya (non-stealing) – in addition to not stealing others' property, asteya includes not stealing people's time with gossip/non-purposeful speech, and not taking from the earth more resources than needed. We can recognize everything as belonging to God, and use resources for universal good rather than "steal" them for selfish purposes.

4) Brahmacarya (sense control) – Just because we see a piece of chocolate cake, we do not have to eat it. Brahmacarya refers to utilizing intelligence rather than sensual inclinations in making choices. In regards to sex, it refers to celibacy in unmarried people, and monogamy and restriction within married couples.

5) Aparigraha (non-hoarding) – Aparigraha refers to keeping what we need, and not more, to maintain a healthy life. When we possess less, life becomes simpler, and we have more time and energy for spiritual cultivation.

Modern society teaches us that more sex, money, and possessions will bring us happiness. To accomplish these feats we sometimes lie, pretend to be who we are not, and commit violence against others to get our own way. Yet such a life does not lead to actual happiness. Let us acknowledge the wisdom offered by spiritual texts such as Patanjali's yoga sutras. Experiment with these principles of morality for just one week. Try to live a simple, honest, and pure life in accordance with these five yamas, and feel the results for yourself. Happiness and health come from within by the choices we make every day

Mind&d influence of material modes of nature!

Mind is d chief of all our senses. It is also called as 6th sense.Modes
of goodness, passion, ignorance influence our mind thru d food v
eat,Sense objects come in contact, place v live(like city being too
passionate&villages being peaceful is in goodness),person v
associate,song/sound v hear/remember,time v are into:early
morning-goodness,day-passion,night-ignorance.By repeatedly
doing1action,d mind gets habituated/addicted2it.So wen mind is
Ctrld, action of our senses r ctrld effortlessly. There's very subtle
connection between the mind and senses. There r bad words/sounds that
provoke mind&senses&on the other hand, transcendental sound vibrations
that control d mind. Decision is always in our hands. So there's no
point in blaming God for our uncontrolled senses.

You Get infected by eating infected food!

By Nari Devi Dasi-Facebook

"We are giving you prasadam. By eating, eating, eating, eating, you one day will become Krishna conscious, simply by eating. Because you are so dull, you
cannot understand the philosophy. You know the belly like the animals. So therefore we are giving facility. "All right, fill up your belly, and you'll be infected." As you take foodstuff from an infected area, you become infected with some disease, so this is Krishna-infected, prasadam. You take it, and one day you'll be diseased with Krishna consciousness." Srila Prabhupada, Fiji, April 30, 1976

The Devotee is Always in Vrindavan!

Sent to you by dinesh via Google Reader:

via kksblog.com by Aatish on 4/29/11

Transcribed by Hina

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, Vrindavan)

Caitanya Mahaprabhu's preaching activities are fully transcendental. When Caitanya Mahaprabhu is performing them, he is displaying all ras. Ras is there – that is the thing about these stories. When Caitanya Mahaprabhu is actually performing these pastimes – it is a very rasic past times, in a sense that there is a complete exchange between him and his devotes. So one can never see any difference. In one sense the devotee is always in Vrindavan!

It is said that Vrindavan is a state of consciousness! We find that is mentioned in the commentary in the tenth Canto, first chapter of Srimad Bhagavatam by Madhvācārya who is stating that Vrindavan or Mathura he says:

"Mathura is a state of consciousness".

So this is a fact and Prabhupada of course has mentioned this many times:
'That one cannot just go to Vrindavan by some travel agent or by some travel arrangement, but one must be there in consciousness.
