The Peace Formula

The Peace Formula

  • The earth is the property of God, but we, the living entities, especially the so-called civilized human beings, are claiming God's property as our own, under both an individual and collective false conception. If you want peace, you have to remove this false conception from your mind and from the world. This false claim of proprietorship by the human race on earth is partly or wholly the cause of all disturbances of peace on earth.

  • Lord Krsna says that He is the factual enjoyer of all activities of the living entities, that He is the Supreme Lord of all universes, and that He is the well-wishing friend of all beings. When the people of the world know this as the formula for peace, it is then and there that peace will prevail.Men are claiming proprietary rights on the property of God because they have now become godless. You cannot be happy and peaceful in a godless society. In the

  • Therefore, if you want peace at all, you will have to change your consciousness into Krsna consciousness, both individually and collectively, by the simple process of chanting the holy name of God. This is a standard and recognized process for achieving peace in the world. We therefore recommend that everyone become Krsna conscious by chanting Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare.

  • Peace and prosperity will be the immediate worldwide result. This is practical, simple, and sublime. Four hundred and eighty years ago this formula was introduced in India by Lord Sri Caitanya, and now it is available in your country. Take to this simple process of chanting as above mentioned, realize your factual position by reading the the Bhagavad-gita As It Is, and reestablish your lost relationship with Krsna, God. Peace and prosperity will be the immediate worldwide result.

Inner Changes Bring Outer Changes

Inner Changes Bring Outer Changes

by Rohan Shanti Shukla on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at 6:45pm

The quality of your life depends to a large extent on the quality of your inner emotional and mental life. If you are lazy, worry too much and afraid to try new things, you stick to the same spot. If you are not afraid to change your thinking, your life will soon change accordingly. Your habitual thoughts, and the content of your subconscious mind determine your behavior and the way you act in the world.

When you change the way you feel and think, you ultimately change your inner vision, actions and behavior. This causes your outer life to change accordingly.

Let's now see a few examples!

If you are the worrying type, you are probably afraid of changes, and prefer to stick to the same kind of life you well know. You see other people who attain success, and though you wish you were successful too, you do nothing about it. In your mind you see yourself living exactly as you are living now, and find it hard to imagine different circumstances.

It may never occur to you that you can visualize a different reality.

In this case your way of thinking limits you. You constantly see in your mind's eye the same daily reality, and consequently your conscious and subconscious minds stay programmed to experience and attract the same kind of reality.

Suppose you come to understand and realize that your outer reality is shaped to a great extent by your inner world. This realization will cause you to aspire to a better life. You will start to envision the kind of life you want to live. If you keep thinking and visualizing a different and better kind of life, soon these thoughts will sink into your subconscious mind and motivate, inspire and energize you to take action.

The new thoughts will cause new expectations, and change the way you view the outer world. The inner changes in you will gradually affect your outer life. Your behavior, and the way you act will change. You will have more energy, ambition and inner strength. You will get over your fear of change, and be ready to take action to change and improve your life, in accordance with the changes inside you.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

H.G. Vidvan Gauranga prabhu graduated from Mayapur gurukula in early 1990's. He went on to serve in Mayapur in different capacity, at times as secretary for H.H. Jayapataka Swami. He was responsible for an ISKCON authorized matrimonial website. He serves as proof reader for different vaisnava manuscripts awaiting print. He is well known in Mayapur and other areas, as a scholar and for his expertise in the field of vedic culture.

Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 4.13.36-37
SB 4.13.36: As soon as the oblation was offered in the fire, a person appeared from the fire altar wearing a golden garland and a white dress. He was carrying a golden pot filled with rice boiled in milk.

Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 4.13.37
sa viprānumato rājā
gṛhītvāñjalinaudanam
avaghrāya mudā yuktaḥ
prādāt patnyā udāra-dhīḥ

SYNONYMS
saḥ — he; vipra — of the brāhmaṇas; anumataḥ — taking permission; rājā — the King; gṛhītvā — taking; añjalinā — in his joined palms; odanam — rice boiled in milk; avaghrāya — after smelling; mudā — with great delight; yuktaḥ — fixed; prādāt — offered; patnyai — to his wife; udāra-dhīḥ — liberal-minded.

TRANSLATION
The King was very liberal, and after taking permission from the priests, he took the preparation in his joined palms, and after smelling it he offered a portion to his wife.

PURPORT
The word udāra-dhīḥ is significant in this connection. The wife of the King, Sunīthā, was not fit to accept this benediction, yet the King was so liberal that without hesitation he offered to his wife the boiled rice in milk prasāda received from the yajña-puruṣa. Of course, everything is designed by the Supreme Personality of Godhead. As will be explained in later verses, this incident was not very favorable for the King. Since the King was very liberal, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, in order to increase his detachment from this material world, willed that a cruel son be born of the Queen so that the King would have to leave home. As stated above, Lord Viṣṇu fulfills the desires of the karmīs as they desire, but the Lord fulfills the desire of a devotee in a different way so that the devotee may gradually come to Him. This is confirmed in the Bhagavad-gītā (dadāmi buddhi-yogaḿ taḿ yena mām upayānti te). The Lord gives the devotee the opportunity to make progress further and further so that he may come back home, back to Godhead.

Generally daughter receives the qualifications of father and son, his mother's!

via Mayapur TV Archives by ashok on 10/04/11

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
His Holiness Bhakti Vidya Purna Swami has been living in Sridham Mayapur for many years overseeing the training of students in vaisnava brahminical traditions. He is often referred to as Gurukula Maharaj. He generously shares his broad knowledge of culture and vaisnavas behaviors in all his classes. His presentations on any topic stand out for their logic and clarity. His classes are usually followed by extensive Question & Answer period.

Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 4.13.38-39
SB 4.13.38: Although the Queen had no son, after eating that food, which had the power to produce a male child, she became pregnant by her husband, and in due course of time she gave birth to a son.

Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 4.13.39
sa bāla eva puruṣo
mātāmaham anuvrataḥ
adharmāḿśodbhavaḿ mṛtyuḿ
tenābhavad adhārmikaḥ

SYNONYMS
saḥ — that; bālaḥ — child; eva — certainly; puruṣaḥ — male; mātā-maham — maternal grandfather; anuvrataḥ — a follower of; adharma — of irreligion; aḿśa — from a portion; udbhavam — who appeared; mṛtyum — death; tena — by this; abhavat — he became; adhārmikaḥ — irreligious.

TRANSLATION
That boy was born partially in the dynasty of irreligion. His grandfather was death personified, and the boy grew up as his follower; he became a greatly irreligious person.

PURPORT
The child's mother, Sunīthā, was the daughter of death personified. Generally the daughter receives the qualifications of her father, and the son acquires those of the mother. So, according to the axiomatic truth that things equal to the same thing are equal to one another, the child born of King Ańga became the follower of his maternal grandfather. According to smṛti-śāstra, a child generally follows the principles of his maternal uncle's house. Narāṇāḿ mātula-karma means that a child generally follows the qualities of his maternal family. If the maternal family is very corrupt or sinful, the child, even though born of a good father, becomes a victim of the maternal family. According to Vedic civilization, therefore, before the marriage takes place an account is taken of both the boy's and girl's families. If according to astrological calculation the combination is perfect, then marriage takes place. Sometimes, however, there is a mistake, and family life becomes frustrating.

It appears that King Ańga did not get a very good wife in Sunīthā because she was the daughter of death personified. Sometimes the Lord arranges an unfortunate wife for His devotee so that gradually, due to family circumstances, the devotee becomes detached from his wife and home and makes progress in devotional life. It appears that by the arrangement of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, King Ańga, although a pious devotee, got an unfortunate wife like Sunīthā and later on a bad child like Vena. But the result was that he got complete freedom from the entanglement of family life and left home to go back to Godhead.

Grace of the Lord

Sent to you by dinesh via Google Reader:

via Jyoti Pahuja's Facebook Notes by Jyoti Pahuja on 10/04/11

Now be pleased, my Lord, to dispel my great delusion. Due to my feeling of false ego, I have been engaged by Your māyā and have identified myself with the body and consequent bodily relations.

PURPORT

The false ego of identifying one's body as one's self and of claiming things possessed in relationship with this body is called māyā. In Bhagavad-gītā, Fifteenth Chapter, the Lord says, "I am sitting in everyone's heart, and from Me come everyone's remembrance and forgetfulness." Devahūti has stated that false identification of the body with the self and attachment for possessions in relation to the body are also under the direction of the Lord. Does this mean that the Lord discriminates by engaging one in His devotional service and another in sense gratification? If that were true, it would be an incongruity on the part of the Supreme Lord, but that is not the actual fact. As soon as the living entity forgets his real, constitutional position of eternal servitorship to the Lord and wants instead to enjoy himself by sense gratification, he is captured by māyā. This capture by māyā is the consciousness of false identification with the body and attachment for the possessions of the body. These are the activities of māyā, and since māyā is also an agent of the Lord, it is indirectly the action of the Lord. The Lord is merciful; if anyone wants to forget Him and enjoy this material world, He gives him full facility, not directly but through the agency of His material potency. Therefore, since the material potency is the Lord's energy, indirectly it is the Lord who gives the facility to forget Him. Devahūti therefore said, "My engagement in sense gratification was also due to You. Now kindly get me free from this entanglement."

By the grace of the Lord one is allowed to enjoy this material world, but when one is disgusted with material enjoyment and is frustrated, and when one sincerely surrenders unto the lotus feet of the Lord, then the Lord is so kind that He frees one from entanglement. Kṛṣṇa says, therefore, in Bhagavad-gītā, "First of all surrender, and then I will take charge of you and free you from all reactions of sinful activities." Sinful activities are those activities performed in forgetfulness of our relationship with the Lord. In this material world, activities for material enjoyment which are considered to be pious are also sinful. For example, one sometimes gives something in charity to a needy person with a view to getting back the money four times increased. Giving with the purpose of gaining something is called charity in the mode of passion. Everything done here is done in the modes of material nature, and therefore all activities but service to the Lord are sinful. Because of sinful activities we become attracted by the illusion of material attachment, and we think, "I am this body." I think of the body as myself and of bodily possessions as "mine." Devahūti requested Lord Kapila to free her from that entanglement of false identification and false possession.

Srimad Bhagavatam 3.25.10

Let us just read things we like and select things that we like. Let us not be too much in the mood of a scholarly student. Let us just be devotees and just go straight for the nectar. Why not? Why not just stick our fingers in the cream…right? Go straight for the cream! Why would we go through the whole discipline of eating the rice and the dahl that we get everyday. It's cream that we want!

Prabhupada many times used to say to some of his disciples:
"You are dull …..you are very dull!. You are not registering. It's all going, and it's just happening but you are not there! Only half present! Half mind – Dull!"
Yes this is our condition since currently we are chanting but we are not appreciating.
Partially, because we are covered by ignorance!

We are residents of Kaliyuga. We are inclined towards sin, inclined to cut corners, inclined to be slack, inclined to sense gratification, inclined to cheat, inclined towards dishonesty, to say "Oh! It's too difficult!' inclined to make endless excuses to escape. We have to be serious.

The Gopis Love – no self interest?

Sent to you by dinesh via Google Reader:

via kksblog.com by Aatish on 4/6/11

Transcribed by Bhakta Jan
(HH Kadamba Kanana Swami, Sydney, Australia, March 2011)

Ramananda Raya was such a devotee, because Ramananda Raya, he understood the pure love that the Gopis had for Krishna. He was able to explain that and he explained how it was completely selfless and how in their worship there was nothing like:
"Give me"
"Bless, please bless my house"
"Bless my family, bless my this, bless my that, bless my car…Lord while you're blessing may You as well bless everything."

No, nothing like that! The Gopis, they couldn't care less about their own things, they had no self-interest at all…………..

"Well, Well is that true Maharaja, is that true? You know, when Akrura came, he came to Vrndavana with his chariot to take Krishna and Balarama to Mathura, isn't it so? And Krishna and Balarama stood on that chariot and they were laughing and it really looked like they wanted to go. Everyone was in shock. Yashoda was totally shocked, totally shocked!
The cowherd boys were lying unconscious in the forest and the Gopis were grabbing the reins and said: "He cannot go!" But Akrura, being a powerful Kyshatria, just drove away, leaving the residents of Vrinadavana broken hearted in separation.
And Vrindavana just shrivelled up, the Yamuna dried up and everyone was just broken hearted. Why? If Krishna wanted to go to Mathura why didn't the Gopis dance in front of the chariot? If they loved Him so much, if they were totally surrendered to Him, and they loved Him completely, they should have danced, they should have been happy, 'O.K. we are going to Mathura' 'Jay! Jay, jay, going to Mathura!' They should have danced in front of him. 'Yes, if that makes Krishna happy, it makes us happy! We have no other desire than the happiness of Krishna. Wherever He wants to go.' Isn't it?"
But it looks like these Gopis had some selfish desire after all, because they wanted to keep Krishna in Vrndavana for themselves. When Krishna was going off to Mathura, they knew very well, that these ladies of Mathura are very sophisticated, "We are never going to see Him again" It looks like that doesn't it?"
No! That was not the reason, it was not jealousy! That was not the reason, it was not selfishness! Then what was it?
What it was, was that the Gopis knew, the Gopis knew very well:
"Krishna has gone mad. He has lost it. He has lost it! He has totally gone mad! He is leaving Vrndavana! He is insane! He is hurting Himself now, because outside of Vrndavana, He cannot be happy. Therefore we cannot let Him go! We cannot let Him fall prey to this madness; we must save Him and stop Him from leaving Vrndavana, because only in Vrndavana, this is the only place where He can be happy."

And in this way, the Gopis were completely selfless even when they stopped the chariot of Akrura.
There was no self-interest. Amazing!
Ramananda Roy understood this topmost love and explained it to be the highest, the highest devotional service.

Turtle lane and the Fast Lane

Sent to you by dinesh via Google Reader:

via kksblog.com by Aatish on 4/6/11

Transcribed by Bhakta Frederick
(Kadamba Kanana Swami, January 2011)

Some years ago in Germany, they had on the Autobahn, where there is no speed limit, they had a sign, and the sign said: "Turtles to the right,"
Yes, You saw a whole line of turtles walking and then in the middle lane there's a medium speed and in the fast lane there's a whatever, unlimited speed.
But all the turtles to the right – so in the Sankirtana movement of Lord Caitanya, there also are different lanes and many of us may be in the turtle lane!
What to do, right!?
If you then look at Rupa Gosvami, Sanatana Gosvami, Srinivasa Acarya they are in the fast lane – It's just inconceivable – "whoosh!' They flash their lights!" – and they don't eat, they don't sleep, they just fly by and we are looking like – how is this all possible!!!? "This is inconceivable"
So in this way we are just, well, struggling a bit, but we do our best. Our best is to be faithful – faithful in chanting and then we come together and have these kirtan gatherings and tank up and get some energy. We will walk away from here with something, with some strength, some energy to apply ourselves once again, and then in the end… in the end, we are very optimistic, because we know that there is the mercy of Srila Prabhupada.
That mercy of Srila Prabhupada extends even further than what Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu brought. It it said Lord Nityananda made a channel – a channel to make Krishna-prema descend into this world, and then Prabhupada brought it to the modern world in the West.
Then Prabhupada, on the strength of his service – on the strength of his extraordinary service, he attracts Krishna, and by attracting Krishna he can even attract the mercy of Krishna upon those who are not very pure and serious at all.
And that is our hope, that simply by taking shelter of Srila Prabhupada, Krishna's mercy will be attracted.

Life without devotional service

Sent to you by dinesh via Google Reader:

via kksblog.com by Yadurani on 4/4/11

Sometimes we are not happy in our life because our life is void, it is empty. We haven't filled our lives with blessings and service. If we fill our life with blessings and service then there is no question of emptiness, loneliness or unhappiness. Then it doesn't exist. It all comes from emptiness and that emptiness is simply due to the fact that we haven't filled our life with devotional service.

We Have All Hope

Sent to you by dinesh via Google Reader:

Transcribed by Bhakta Frederick
(Kadamba Kanana Swami, 2011)

"I know that my chanting is poor. I know that all that I am offering is broken names and that I'm not really chanting very purely.
But I have hope: 'hope against hope' that with Prabhupada's mercy it will be possible to go back to Godhead."
Therefore, let us come together again and again, and let us chant together again and again so that we can feed of off each other's strength and inspiration, and in that way carry on faithfully.
Just simply faithfully chant throughout a lifetime and take shelter of these four regulative principles.
Then we have all hope, by the words of Srila Prabhupada, by his service – that we can go back to Godhead – and then I am sure we will get Krishna-prema on the way also and even if it be latest at the door of the spiritual world.
