A Date With a Woman (Must Read )

DATE WITH A WOMAN

After 21 years of Marriage, my Wife wanted me to take another Woman

out to Dinner and a Movie.

She said I Love You but I know this other Woman loves you and would Love

to spend some Time with You.

The other Woman that my Wife wanted me to visit was my MOTHER,

who has been a Widow for 19 years,

but the demands of my Work and my three Children had made it possible

to visit her only occasionally.

That night I called to Invite her to go out for Dinner and a Movie.

'What's wrong, are you well,' she asked?

My Mother is the type of Woman who suspects that

a Late Night Call or a Surprise Invitation is a sign of Bad News.

'I thought that it would be pleasant to be with you,'

I responded.

'Just the two of us.'

She thought about it for a moment, and then said,

'I would like that very much.'

That Friday after work, as I drove over to pick her up I was a bit Nervous.
When I arrived at her House, I noticed that she too seemed to be Nervous

about our Date.

She waited in the Door with her Coat on.

She had Curled her Hair and was wearing the Dress that she had worn to

Celebrate her last Wedding Anniversary.

She smiled from a face that was as Radiant as an Angel's.

'I told my Friends that I was going to go out with My Son, and they were impressed, '

She said, as she got into the Car.

'They can't wait to hear about our meeting'.

We went to a Restaurant that, although not Elegant, was very Nice and Cozy.

My Mother took my Arm as if She were the First Lady.

After we sat down, I had to read the Menu. Large Print.

Half way through the entries, I lifted my eyes and saw Mom sitting

there staring at me.

A Nostalgic Smile was on her Lips.

'It was I who used to have to Read the Menu when you were Small,'

She said.

'Then it's Time that you Relax and let me Return the Favor,'

I responded.

During the Dinner, we had an Agreeable Conversation, nothing

Extra-ordinary, but catching up on recent Events of each others Life.

We talked so much that we missed the Movie.

As we arrived at her House later,

She said, 'I'll go out with you again, but only if you let me invite you.'

I agreed.

'How was your Dinner Date?' asked My Wife when I got Home.

'Very Nice. Much more so than I could have Imagined,' I answered.

A few days later, my Mother died of a Massive Heart Attack.

It happened so suddenly that I didn't have Time to do anything for her.
Some time later, I received an Envelope with a Copy of a Restaurant Receipt

from the same place Mother and I had dined.

An Attached Note Said:

'I paid this Bill in Advance.

I wasn't sure that I could be there;

But nevertheless, I paid for Two Plates รข€"

One for You and the Other for Your Wife.

You will never know what that Night meant for Me.
I Love You,

My Son.'

At that moment, I understood the Importance of saying in Time:

'I LOVE YOU!'

and to give our Loved Ones the Time that they Deserve.

Nothing in Life is more important than your Family.

Give them the Time they Deserve, because these Things cannot be

Put Off till 'Some Other Time.'

Pass This Along To Everyone

With An Aging Parent,
To A Child,
To An Adult,
To Anyone With A Parent,

And Most Importantly,
To Someone

You Truly Love

Srila Prabhupada speaks on: "From Frying Pan To The Fire"

From: Pragosh das <servant@prabhupadavani.org>

"From Frying Pan To The Fire"

Hyderabad, September 29, 1975

listen

Take a test

Prabhupada: (Hindi) ...mandah, all bad men. Manda sumanda-matayah. And if he is supposed to be a good man, he will manufacture some mata, manda-mata, not approved by the sastras. This is going on. They will not hear Krsna. They will give quotation from Brahma-kumari. This is the greatest defect of modern civilization, that they won't accept real authority. They will create some authority. Or rascal, he becomes authority. Especially in India, this is the drawback. In the Western countries they do not know much about this. Therefore they accept what I say. But here they bring so many. So such an important man, he is bringing authority, Brahma-kumari, a house of prostitution. If he is bringing their quotation as authority, then what to speak of others? [break] Just like that Christian convent house. They supply woman to rich men, and they supply money. That's all. This is Brahma-kumari. Rich man, the same disease is there -- yan maithunadi-grhamedhi-sukha hi tuccham. So if they get facility for some maithuna, they will give you money. (Hindi) ...prostitute, for convent house. Hm? Brahmananda? Convent house? What is that convent house? It is not prostitution? That's all.

Brahmananda: Usually it's between the priests and the nuns.

Prabhupada: Unless one is actually spiritually situated, this material center of happiness, maithunadi, that will go anywhere. You give any color, spiritual or religious or political. You see? Why Gandhi's asrama failed? Do you know that? This is... When Gandhi was in jail, when he came back he saw all pregnant. You did not know that?

Kartikeya: No, we imagined, but we don't have information.

Prabhupada: That what... Gandhi said, "What is this asrama?"

Indian man (1): No, but Gandhi... He is well known, very well known.

Prabhupada: He is well known.

Indian man (1): Including mother Desai and all, there were lot of complaints and countercomplaints.

Prabhupada: Yes. It cannot be. You cannot stop the sex unless you are fully in Krsna consciousness. It is not possible. And that is the material bondage. In the material prisonhouse they have got so many means-big, big walls, handcuff, chain -- but nature is so perfect that simply give you a beautiful woman, and you are all prisoner. Big wall, handcuff and chain -- everything is complete. I think I have discussed in my recent purports.

Harikesa: Oh, yes, yes.

Indian man (2): Even in case of mother Desai, it was a classic incident, that his wife came one day to Gandhiji, that "This man is your personal writer but he is going on with another woman in your camp."

Prabhupada: There are so many.

Indian man (2): "And he comes only because of that woman. Otherwise he is not willing to be your personal writer. So I have complained." Then Gandhiji said, "All right, when did you know it?" So she said, "I was thinking for the three months, but fifteen days before I came." "All right, Mahadeva, you come here. You will fast for fifteen days." And one week later (indistinct) Mahadeva Desai was that he wanted food very badly. So after seven days he was about to die. Then that woman, wife, came again, "Maharaja I made a mistake. I made a complaint. All right. But now this man will die and where I will go?" (indistinct) "Then why have you made a complaint? So you can take off for seven days but you fast for seven days." So he is relieved.

Prabhupada: One -- there are so many cases. This Lilavati Munshi, this is the same thing. You know that? There is a big history behind this.

Kartikeya: The failures are due to some basic reason. All the big people have failed, and they have not been able to deliver the country or anything because their moral character...

Prabhupada: No, no, even they have delivered the country, these physical elements you cannot avoid. You cannot avoid unless you are on the transcendental platform, Krsna consciousness. So long you are on the physical platform, you cannot avoid. It is impossible. (Hindi) Gandhiji... (Hindi)... mistake. (Hindi) "And physical? Oh, you have done this? Fifteen days fasting."

Indian man (1): What is alternative? What do you do when...

Prabhupada: No, no, alternative, that alternative will not correct. That is the defect of Gandhi's movement. He is supposed to be reading Bhagavad-gita, but he has never said, recommended, Krsna worship. That is the defect of his education. Rather, he denied the existence of Krsna. "I don't believe if any person as Krsna ever lived." This is his concept. Gandhi has written in his life that while his father was dying he was enjoying sex with his wife. You know that?

Indian man (2): Gandhiji?

Prabhupada: Yes, he has written it.

Indian man (1): It is, after all, only...

Prabhupada: No, no. After, he became a great sage. That is all right. But in the beginning everyone is subjected. Which way we shall...

Kartikeya: We can go straight.

Prabhupada: (Hindi) Brahmananda, you just take an idea. We shall construct Gurukula in this pattern.

Brahmananda: This building here, double story.

Prabhupada: Yes. Yes. Exactly. Double or three-storied.

Kartikeya: Most simple type.

Prabhupada: Very simple type, very nice. Just get a sketch with your work. This will be done like that.

Brahmananda: I'll ask Bhargava. He has his camera. He can take photographs.

Prabhupada: Yes. And downstairs, all shops. Only the roadside. Other side...

Brahmananda: Oh, no. That's the courtyard, and then other side, a building. [break]

Bhavananda: ...at the Gurukula best thing is outdoors classes. As soon as they're in rooms it gets too hot.

Prabhupada: As far as possible, outdoors.

Bhavananda: Best place in Mayapur is on the verandas of the big building. It's perfect.

Prabhupada: That is very nice.

Brahmananda: They have verandas on this building?

Prabhupada: Yes, there is veranda that side.

Brahmananda: On the inside or the outside?

Prabhupada: No. No. Inside. Outside closed. [break] ...no that reinforced concrete, all brick. This is all brick. (Hindi) You have got that brick manufacturing concern near?

Brahmananda: Yes.

Prabhupada: Take as many bricks as you like. And we have got one address. You have taken, Agra, they will supply this lime. [break] (Hindi) ...rich men. Still, they are adulterating cement. (Hindi) [break] I heard it from very reliable source, my teacher. He was second teacher in my school, graduate, very good gentleman. He said that Edward VIII, er, VII, he was stealing jewels. You see?

Indian man (3): A very bad habit.

Prabhupada: Emperor of British Empire, and he was a thief. Just see.

Brahmananda: You've said that a fly sitting on a throne is still a fly.

Prabhupada: Yes. [break] ...one gentleman, young man, he was very rich man's son. He would come in the evening in the Howrah station nicely dressed and would approach any gentleman, "Sir, I am very sorry. I have lost my purse. Can you give me? Otherwise I cannot return." So he will collect five, ten rupees and go to a restaurant and eat and go home. [break] It is the second nature. Now the door is open? We can go?

Kartikeya: Yes. [break]

Prabhupada: ...enter. Not the cows.

Indian man (4): Physical world, this earth is there. Are there any other earthly planets of this type where human beings or other beings are staying other than spiritual beings?

Prabhupada: Oh, yes.

Indian man (4): Why the information is not given about that?

Prabhupada: Why not? In Bhagavata there is all information.

Indian man (4): About the other earthly planets also?

Prabhupada: Oh, yes. All, every each and every planet, Janaloka, Tapoloka, Maharloka, what kind of men are living there, what they are doing -- everything is there. Svargaloka.

Indian man (4): But do they not come here sometimes to visit us or we cannot go there?

Prabhupada: But you cannot see them. Your philosophy is unless you see, you don't believe. That is your philosophy. But you do not consider what you can see. That is the defect of this imperfect world, that people do not think that they are imperfect. With all imperfectness, they think they are perfect. That is the defect. Therefore it is said, andha. One is blind, and he is becoming the leader of other blind men. Andha yathandhair upaniyamanas te 'pisa-tantryam uru-damni baddhah [SB 7.5.31]. Isa-tantrya, by the laws of nature he is bound up very tight, hands and legs, and he is thinking he is free to think, free to see, free to... That is the defect. He is not at all free, completely under the clutches of material laws, and he is thinking that he is free. That is the defect. And when this sense comes, that "I am not free; everything is forced upon me," then he becomes human being. Otherwise he's a dog. Just like, you see, if a dog thinks he is free. He is jumping here, there. He is thinking, "I am independent," barking, attacking somebody. Oh, he is thinking he is free to do everything. When one comes to this sense, that he is not free, that is beginning of human life. Athato brahma jijnasa. Then the question will be that "Why I am not free? What is the reason?" Then that is... Real human life begins. Otherwise he's a dog. Is it correct or not? What do you think? If one is not free and wrongly thinks that he is free, then what is that mentality? A doggish mentality. And if I say, "Yes, you are free. You can think in any way you like. That is correct," then you become more encouraged to become, to remain a fool, to continue. That's all. So we shall go now? That is the defective part of modern civilization. Everyone is thinking, "I am free." Is it not? Everyone.

Indian man (5): Yes. "I am perfect. I am like this."

Prabhupada: Yes.

Indian man (5): He thinks who is living under the delusion.

Prabhupada: That is explained in the Bhagavad-gita, Sixteenth Chapter. "I am..." Adhyo 'smi dhanavan asmi ko'sti mama samah: "Who is there like me, intelligent? I will do this. I will do that." These are all...

Indian man (5): Continues delusion.

Prabhupada: Yes. Therefore Krsna has imposed death, that "You may make your plan as free man, but you'll not be allowed to stay. I'll kick you out." These poor men, they did not think of it, that "I am making so nice plan, but at any moment I'll be kicked out. So where is my freedom?" Dull brain does not think of it. A prisoner, if he thinks that he is free to act, is it not foolishness? A prisoner, in prison, and if he thinks that he is free to act, is it not foolishness? So that they do not think. Therefore Krsna has grouped them: mudha, these rascals, mudha. They conduct freedom movement. Just like in our country also, before this British Empire or this Mohammedan Empire there was no knowledge about this freedom. Indian people never thought of freedom. They know that "We are not free. Where is the question of freedom?" These things have come from the foreign countries, freedom movement. What is freedom? Where are you free? You are completely under the laws of nature. Where is your freedom? So they were thinking of greater freedom, to get out of the clutches of the laws of nature. That is real freedom. What is this freedom? From frying pan to the fire? (chuckles) Now we have freedom means from frying pan to the fire. Formerly there was one viceroy. Now in each state three dozen viceroys, and you have to maintain that. So many legislators, so many secretaries, so many ministers. All, they are sucking our poor blood. That's all. Hare Krsna. And as soon as you approach them for some grievances, "All right, give me application," and, after six months, "No." So we are maintaining for this purpose? Yes. "I say no." That's all. Hare Krsna. Jaya. [break] ...ing of freedom, but we have no freedom even to stay in this body.

Indian man (6): Yes. That is not our plan.

Indian man (5): Somebody else is controlling that.

Prabhupada: Yes. We learn that na hanyate hanyamane sarire [Bg. 2.20]. "This is my position. I am eternal. So why I am obliged to accept body which is hanyamana?" These questions do not bother them. And where is my freedom? "I am eternal. Na hanyate hanyamane sarire [Bg. 2.20]. I do not die after the destruction of my body. Then why I am put into this body which will be destroyed, which will become old, useless? And where is my freedom?" These things do not bother them, and they are reader of Bhagavad-gita.

Indian man (6): Somebody told that they are made to come here...

Prabhupada: Eh?

Indian man (6): Is it the sin of some of the...?

Prabhupada: No, that we shall consider. First of all we have to see that I learn that my position is na hanyate hanyamane sarire [Bg. 2.20]. So why I am put into this body which is hanyamana? (aside:) Hare Krsna. Jaya. Yes. (Hindi) They want to remain in darkness, and any leader who will keep him in the darkness in flowery language, he will be welcomed: "Oh, he is very good leader." "And this man is very conservative: 'Don't do this, don't do this, don't do this.' " So here is freedom. "Whatever you like, you do" -- here is freedom. If this rascal does not do what you do and you go to hell, that is their business. Krsna therefore says, "You rascal, where is your freedom?" Janma-mrtyu-jara-vyadhi-duhkha-dosanudarsanam [Bg. 13.9]. First of all you see. Janma-mrtyu-jara-vyadhi. So where is your freedom? First of all get out of these things; then question of freedom. Janma-mrtyu-jara-vyadhi-duhkha-dosanudarsanam. This is your knowledge, that "Where is my freedom? If I am under the rules and regulation of janma-mrtyu-jara-vyadhi, then where is my freedom?" (aside:) Hare Krsna. Jaya. Simply rubber-stamped freedom will help me? Suppose I was dependent on British rule, and now I have become free. So will this help me to get freedom from janma-mrtyu-jara-vyadhi? Then where is my freedom? What are major questions, they have set aside. "Don't discuss all these things, and bother your head with trifle things." And our philosophy is that "Don't bother with these trifle things. Just seriously think of the major problems." This is our philosophy. Hare Krsna. [break] Tesam aham samuddharta mrtyu-samsara-sagarat [Bg. 12.7]. Samuddaharta, just to deliver them from this ocean of mrtyu-samsara. That is not care. Real freedom is given by him -- that you don't care. [break] ...will be given by Krsna. This is no freedom. Here the so-called freedom-giver, he has no freedom. And what he will give, freedom? Gandhiji preached so much about nonviolence, and nonviolence said, "All right, you have no freedom from nonviolence. You die." (Hindi) [break] ...is there, there is no question of freedom. (end)

Once upon a time......Must Read!!!

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: Dr Satish Gosain (Sri Krishna Hari Das) <sri.krishna.hari@gmail.com>

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: Sachin Kumar Gupta <sachin.kguptaa@gmail.com>

Once upon a time there was a rich King who had four wives.

He loved the 4th wife the most and adorned her with rich robes and treated her to the finest of delicacies. He gave her nothing but the best. He also loved the 3rd wife very much and was always showing her off to neighboring kingdoms. However, he feared that one day she would leave him for another. He also loved his 2nd wife. She was his confidant and was always kind, considerate and patient with him. Whenever the King faced a problem, he could confide in her, and she would help him get through the difficult times

The King's 1st wife was a very loyal partner and had made great contributions in maintaining his wealth and kingdom. However, he did not love the first wife. Although she loved him deeply, he hardly took notice of her!

One day, the King fell ill and he knew his time was short. He thought of his luxurious life and wondered, I now have four wives with me, but when I die, I'll be all alone."

Thus, he asked the 4th wife, "I loved you the most, endowed you with the finest clothing and showered great care over you. Now that I'm dying, will you follow me and keep me company?"

"No way!" replied the 4th wife, and she walked away without another word.

Her answer cut like a sharp knife right into his heart.

The sad King then asked the 3rd wife, "I loved you all my life. Now that I'm dying, will you follow me and keep me company?"

"No!" replied the 3rd wife. "Life is too good! When you die, I'm going to remarry!"

His heart sank and turned cold.

He then asked the 2nd wife, "I have always turned to you for help and you've always been there for me. When I die, will you follow me and keep me company?"

"I'm sorry, I can't help you out this time!" replied the 2nd wife. "At the very most, I can only walk with you to your grave."

Her answer struck him like a bolt of lightning, and the King was devastated.

Then a voice called out: "I'll go with you. I'll follow you no matter where you go."

The King looked up, and there was his first wife. She was very skinny as she suffered from malnutrition and neglect.

Greatly grieved, the King said, "I should have taken much better care of you when I had the chance!"

In truth, we all have the 4 wives in our lives:

Our 4th wife is our body. No matter how much time and effort we lavish in
making it look good, it will leave us when we die.

Our 3rd wife is our possessions, status and wealth. When we die, it will all go to others.

Our 2nd wife is our family and friends. No matter how much they have been there for us, the furthest they can stay by us is up to the grave.

And our 1st wife is our soul. Often neglected in pursuit of wealth, power and pleasures of the world. However, our soul is the only thing that is eternal.

Bhagavad Gita 2:20

For the soul there is never birth nor death. Nor, having once been, does he ever cease to be. He is unborn, eternal, ever existing, undying and primeval. He is not slain when the body is slain.

Bhagavad Gita 2:24

This individual soul is unbreakable and insoluble, and can be neither burned nor dried. He is everlasting, all-pervading, unchangeable, immovable and eternally the same.

Take the time now to come to self-realization, and find your relationship with God.

Bhagavad Gita 6:28

Steady in the Self, being freed from all material contamination, the yogi achieves the highest perfectional stage of happiness in touch with the Supreme Consciousness.

PURPORT

Self-realization means knowing one's constitutional position in relationship to the Supreme. The individual soul is part and parcel of the Supreme, and his position is to render transcendental service to the Lord

Humility - Important

Humility

We should protect ourselves from false prestige. Not like that we serve a little, and then we expect respect and prestige and we should not think that we are the doer. Sometime we preach a bit, get a bit of success, and then we can't put feet on ground, we go in sky. So Lord is telling here do not run after false prestige and also do not think that " I am the doer." As soon as you think that I am the doer, and it is because of me the success has been achieved then you will see that with time whatever little spiritual strength you have gained that gets lost. Lord gets pleased by humility.

Triple S formula for the time management-Urgent and Important(Must Read!!)

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: kanupriya agarwal <kanupriyaaga@gmail.com>

Hare Krishna to all the Vaishnavas,

Please accept my humble obesiances!

All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

The following is an excerpt from the lecture of HG Gopinatha Chandra Prabhu. I find it useful to share. Although we know all the principles of bhakti, but sometimes what we lack in our life is proper discipline and time management. And because of that our progress in bhakti hampers. So, this is a very useful lecture.

Time management techniques

A teacher entered a classroom with an empty jug and then filled the jug with big rocks. And asked the students whether it is full or not. Students repiled that it is full. Then the teacher brought smaller stones and they occupied the space between the rocks. Then again asked that whether it is full or not? The students replied that yes it is full. After that the teacher pour sand and the sand occupies the smaller gaps between stones. And then students said that actually now it is full. Then the teacher pour the water and the jug could not hold the water. Then the teacher said that now it is actually full. Then teacher asked the students what will happen if we do this process in reverse i.e putiing the big rocks at the last? Their will no space for the rocks. Then the teacher asked that what do you learn from this? The students said that this is the time management class.

So, what is the lesson to be learned. The lesson is If we compare the jar with the total amount of time that we have in our lives and we compare the different commodities that is pt into the jar to the different activities we perform in our time. Then what is to be understood is depending upon the order in which we place our activities. Depending upon how we  plan our activities with in the time that we have to that extent we will be able to manage our time very nicely. We can fit into more activites into same amount of time and achieve more in this life.

Now in what order the activities has to be fixed in the jar of time? Just like when the big rocks where put into the jar first, the jar could be filled up with more number of things. But when the big rocks where kept towards the end, the jar could not be filled up with all the things. So, similarly time managements expert says that we have to identify the most important activity in our life first and rest of the activities can be scheduled.

Another very interesting concept which comes in time management is Time management metrics. All the activities we perform can be divided into 4 quadrants.

1) Urgent activities and important activities: For example a student having the exam next day. For him studying is the most urgent and important activity.

2) Not urgent but important: Student going to study for exam which is 1 month later. So, here studying is not urgent but important.

3) Activities that are urgent but not important: For example a phone call is coming, it is urgent to pich up the phone, but may be not important call. Practically billboards in Mumbai are promoting urgent but not important activities. That is the whole propaganda of advertisement industry. A new movie has come in the market and there is an urge that I have to see as soon as possible. It seems to be very urgent. A person addicted to ciggarate, feels smoking as  urgent. Most activities of the modern civilization can be categorised into this quadrant i.e. those which are urgent but not important.

4) Not urgent and not important: Sleeping unnecessarily. Time pass. People like to hang out. Now a days so many new activities are coming like internet is promoting activities like orkut and facebook. Not urgent and not important.

Now, the whole time management involves bringing our activities more and more into Q2 quadrant. That means the more we perform activities that are not urgent but important the more the quality of our life will improve. A simple example:
A student who studies regularly, his studies are not urgent but important. In this way he can perform well in long run. But if he does not perform not urgent but important activities but happens is he will find himself in urgent and important quadrant. He will find exam very close and he has to hurry up.And he has to do kind some fix study which won't bring best out of him.Similarly, a working professional int this world if he doesn't identify these kind of activities which dont seem to be urgent but are important and does not allot time for these activities first what happens is very soon he finds life in mess.
Doing a project on time may not seem to be an urgent activity but its an important. But the general tendency is to procrastinate. Let me do later. Until we feel it is urgent we do not want to solve the problem. Until we feel it is urgent, we can solve the problem but we cannot solve the problem in the best possible way. That is always the case. So, if you want to make a change in our life time management says that we have identify not urgent but important activities.  Once we allot time for these first and then allot time for other activities later then in due course of time we will find that the quality of our life slowly improving. These are the big rocks. The most important things which dont seem to be urgent immediately. Its a common thing in hospital especially student is studying and a friend comes to him and he said to him why are you studying now exams are one month later. Come lets have fun. Lets go out, and the tendency is to succumb to such temptations. So, more we identify activities that are important in our lives but may not be seem to be urgent activities. We have to identify these activities and give priority to these first. And then other activities  can be adjusted for the remaining amount of time.

Time management experts have given triple S formula:

1) Shrink activities in Q1 quadrant: Try to reduce the activites that are urgent and important activity. This can be done by doing activities on time. Otherwise it seems that we are always in urgency. We are not able to lead the satisfactory life.

2) Say no to Q3 activities: Say no to activities that seems to be urgent but not important. Most of the time in activities that seems to be urgent but are not important because of the propaganda going on around us. If easy access to internet is there then students have syndrome to check the mail. They check mails in every 2 hours. They feel uneasy if they dont check the mails. One has to restrain his impulsive behaviour. In this world impulsive behavior is becoming popular more and more. Minds say something and we do immediately. If a student sits for studying and the mind says check the mail. It seems to be urgent activity, but actually its not important. So, say no to instincts.

3) Slacker activities should be avoided: Those activities comes in Q4. Time pass activity. Not urgent, not important. Time killing. Like sitting in front of internet and browsing through different web pages. What is means that identify the most important things in your life and spend your time in important activities.

But how can we apply this practically? Effective time management can be done if we understand the principle of Bhagvad Gita.

Quadrant 1 activities are those to be in hurry. Procrastinate things. A person who postpone the things and when a deadline comes then he is busy in doing urgent activities. " I will do this later."  They cannot lead happy, satisfactory and peaceful life. Procrastination is a symptom of person in "tamo guna". From Bhagvad Gita point of view, for effective time management one has to rise above tamo guna. Come out of tamo guna. Bhagvad Gita says people who are confused about what to do and what no to do are in tamo guna. One has to rise above tamo guna. Among triple S, two can be achieved by rising above tamo guna. And 3rd S is say no to Q3 quadrant activities. Rise above the instinctive nature. That is mode of passion. One has to come to the mode of goodness. What is goodness? Doing right activities at right time. If we combine Time management and Bhagvad Gita together then we manage our time. In order to implement practically in our life we have to learn the principles of Bhagvad Gita. Bhagvad Gita is the book giving the guidelines, how to come above lower modes and situate in the mode of goodness. Time management experts lacks how to practically apply triple S in our life. Understand the dynamics of guna. That can be understood by understanding and applying Bhagvad Gita. One can actually make changes in forth coming year if he tries and implements the principles of Bhagvad Gita slowly but surely. Otherwise he will keep wondering why nothing happening. Life will remain same as long as we will not understand how to manage our life properly. Time management experts goes giving seminar, but it is not practical unless one does not understand the dynamics of guna. Bhagvad Gita is a perfect book, people in corporate world are recognizing it. If we don't make serious attempt what Bhagvad Gita has to say, then time just passes by and wonders how time slips away. Every year man makes new year resolution, but does not know how to apply practically these resolutions in forth coming year. We do not know the secret of how to make the change. Secret lies in sacred literature i.e. Bhagvad Gita. Krishna towars the ends of Bhagvad Gita says to Arjuna that one who studies this conversation of ours worships me with perfect intelligence. It is the perfect book required to transform and mould our lives.

Please forgive me

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: Dr Satish Gosain (Sri Krishna Hari Das) <sri.krishna.hari@gmail.com>

Please forgive me

Hare Krishna Dear Friends and Devotees!

You may have read this before….but please read this again with changes below.

There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His Father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence.

The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence.

Finally the day came when the boy didn't lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper.

The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone.

The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said, "You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won't matter how many times you say I'm sorry, the wound is still there."

A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one. Friends are very rare jewels, indeed. They make you smile and encourage you to succeed. They lend an ear, they share words of praise and they always want to open their hearts to us."

YOU ARE MY FRIEND AND I AM YOUR SERVANT!

Please forgive me if I have ever left a hole in your heart.

Please forgive me if I have committed any offenses knowingly or unknowingly.

The Beggar-Thought from HH Bhakti-Thirtha Swami

Thought from HH Bhakti-Thirtha Swami

From the book "The Beggar"

By HH Bhakti Thirtha Swami Krishnapada

My dear Lord, it is I who was so fortunate to meet Your representative on this planet. I met that great Acarya, His e Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. He was so kind. He taught us everything, and what did I do? I did not take his association, nor his message, very seriously.

My dear Lord Madhusudhana, it is I who was so fortunate to take birth in a religious family. Everyone was instructed to worship and serve You in a loving way. You were said to be the goal in life. We were told to offer everything to You and to give all respects, and what did I do? I did not take Your association very seriously, nor did I appreciate the depth of Your message.

My dear Lord Madhusudhana, it is I who was so fortunate to lead a very diversified life. Brought up in the ghetto, I was able to associate with the rich and the super-rich. I was given an excellent chance to see suffering and illusion from all sides, and what did I do? I did not value these associations, nor did I appreciate the message that was there for me to learn.

My dear Lord, it is I who was so fortunate to be given a healthy body. With this body I could have rendered service to You and Your representatives twenty hours a day, but what did I do? I did not appreciate these blessings, nor did I use this body completely in Your service.

My dear Lord, it is I to whom You gave many spiritual books and other spiritual paraphernalia, and what did I do? I read them and put them aside. I did not fully understand the books, nor did I sufficiently attempt to enter into those pastimes.

My dear Lord Madhusudhana, it is I whom You allowed to travel all around the world, studying so many cultures, meeting many professors from various countries, giving them all the chance to hear the message of sanatana dharma explained by Your pure devotee, Srila Prabhupada, and what did I do? I did not represent You properly, not understanding that Krishna is the source of all success.

My dear Lord, it is to me You have sent so many wonderful devotees to associate with, so many mentors, and what do I do? I have not accepted any of my mentors (as I offend and challenge them regularly), nor have I valued the great mercy of vaisnava association.

My dear Lord, You have sent so many souls to assist me by removing any reason not to give this life to You. These disciples have undergone all types of austerities under my order, for You and Your service, and what have I done? I have not been a compassionate spiritual master, nor have I caught up with our great predecessors.

My dear Lord Madhusudhana, You are the killer of the Madhu demon. This demon was so powerful, but for You his annihilation presented no difficulty. My Lord, it is I that have a mind in which lodges such an active demon. This demon is an infant next to the great raksasha demons You have already destroyed.

My dear Lord, I am such a beggar, I have no one to turn to but You. I have taken all associations and opportunities for granted. Without your causeless mercy, my life is finished. I, Bhakti-Tirtha, cry out, asking that You please kill this demon in mind, allowing me to fix my consciousness totally on Your feet. I humbly make this request, but if I do not receive Your blessings, how will I continue in this body? Please, my Lord, appear fully in my mind, never to leave. I beg forgiveness. I am that desperate beggar waiting anxiously for Your rescue and established presence.

I couldn't read this without being inspired but also reminded of my own position in life

Ditch of Materialistic Life

Posted: 26 Jan 2010 06:27 PM PST

Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu said the following to Srila Raghunatha Dasa Goswami when Raghunatha left his home to become a renunciant.

Text:
Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu said, "The mercy of Lord Krsna is stronger than anything else. Therefore the Lord has delivered you from the ditch of materialistic life, which is like a hole into which people pass stool."

Srila Prabhupada's commentary:
According to the law of karma, everyone is destined to suffer or enjoy according to a certain material standard, but the mercy of Lord Krsna is so powerful that the Lord can change all the reactions of one's past karma, or fruitive activities. Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu specifically drew attention to the mercy of Lord Krsna. That mercy is more powerful than anything else, for it had saved Raghunatha dasa from the strong bondage of materialistic life, which the Lord compared to a hole where people pass stool. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu gave His verdict that those addicted to the materialistic way of life are like worms that are living in stool but cannot give it up. A grha-vrata, one who has decided to live in a comfortable home although it is actually miserable, is in a condemned position. Only the mercy of Krsna can save one from such misery. Without Krsna's mercy, one cannot get out of the filthy entanglement of materialistic life. The poor living entity cannot give up his materialistic position on his own; only when granted the special mercy of Krsna can he give it up. Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu knew very well that Raghunatha dasa was already liberated. Nevertheless He emphasized that Raghunatha dasa's life of material comfort as a very rich man's son with a very beautiful wife and many servants to attend him was like a ditch of stool. The Lord thus specifically indicated that ordinary men who are very happy with material comforts and family life are in no better position than worms in stool.

"One Machine-Hundred Unamployed"

Vrndavana, March 15, 1974

listen

Take a test

Prabhupada: ...you should call learned. Arcye visnau sila-dhir gurusu nara-matir vaisnave jati-buddhih. You take it...

Nitai: Yes.

Prabhupada: ...this quotation from Padma Purana, and distribute it by transcribing to all our devotees.

Nitai: That's the verse that says that one is a resident of hell...

Prabhupada: Yes. Naraki.

Nitai: ...if he considers the Deity...

Prabhupada: Naraki.

Nitai: Yes.

Prabhupada: Arcye visnau... [break] ...when it will teach military art, with tilaka, soldiers will, "Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna..." (laughter) We want that. Marching with military band, "Hare Krsna." You maintain this idea. Is it not good?

Hrdayananda: Yes, Prabhupada.

Prabhupada: When there will be military march of Krsna conscious soldiers. Anyone who does not believe in Krsna, "Blam!" (laughter) Yes. The same process as the Mohammedans did, with sword and Koran, we'll have to do that. "Do you believe in Krsna or not?" "No, sir." "Blam!" Finished. (laughter, Prabhupada laughs) What do you think, Madhudvisa Maharaja? Is that all right?

Madhudvisa: Yes.

Prabhupada: (laughing) What these communists can do? We can do better than them. We can kill many communists like that. (laughter) Then it will be counteraction of communist movement. And you think like that. "Why you are sitting idly, no employment? Come on to the field! Take this plow! Take this bull. Go on working. Why you are sitting idly?" This is Krsna consciousness movement. Nobody should be allowed to sit down and sleep. They must find out some employment, either work as brahmana or as a ksatriya or as a vaisya. Why there should be unemployment? The same example. Just like I am, this body is working. The leg is working, hand is working, brain is working, belly is working. Why there should be unemployment? You just stop this unemployment, you will see the whole world is peaceful. There is no complaint. And they'll very happily chant Hare Krsna. Hm? Nobody's working in this field. They're all drawn to the cities to work in the factory. Condemned civilization. That communist emblem, what is that?

Devotees: Hammer and sickle.

Prabhupada: Yes. That is good.

Indian: Yeah, good.

Prabhupada: But no hammer. Only this... What is called?

Devotees: Sickle.

Prabhupada: No hammer. That will be our emblem. Only sickle. Not hammer. The hammer has hammered the whole human civilization. So just make a counter-emblem. The communists will appreciate.

Devotee: Sickle and tilaka.

Prabhupada: Eh?

Devotee: A sickle, and then a tilaka.

Prabhupada: Yes, that is good idea. Guptaji? Come here. (Hindi)

Gupta: (Hindi for few sentences)

Prabhupada: Rascal civilization, rascal government. And people are transferred into rascals. (Hindi) Annad bhavanti bhutani [Bg. 3.14]. Without anna, how they can live? There is no arrangement for anna. They're simply passing resolution, legislative laws. And no anna. Just see what kind of wretched government it is. Everywhere. There is no anna. Annad bhavanti bhutani. The first duty of government is to see that everyone is happy, without any anxiety. These preliminary necessities of life, ahara-nidra-bhaya-maithunam, there must be sufficient arrangement for these preliminary necessities of life. One must eat sumptuously. Not over-eating, indulgence. No. But he must have sufficient food to keep up the health. Similarly, he must have place to sleep. We, we are prepared to offer everything. And be Krsna conscious. This is our mission. Not by eating and sleeping, become rogues and thieves and rascals. That we will not allow. That is varnasrama-dharma. (Hindi conversation for a few sentences) Why unemployment? There is no scarcity (of) water. Just have a big well. Electricity pump water. Oh, immediately, it will be all green. Immediately. (Hindi for a while) Jayo! Hare Krsna! [break] ...all round, for the benefit of the human society. You'll be honored everywhere. Everywhere, any part of the world. And automatically these bogus avatara, incarnations, God, and yogis and swamis will be all doomed. You see? These rascal society, avatara, "Bhagavan," incarnations, yogis, these rascals will be doomed.

Gupta: These (indistinct) ought to be finished. They cannot remain.

Prabhupada: No! (Hindi) ...that glowworm. Glowworm (Hindi) beautiful (Hindi) darkness hai. (Hindi) So long people were in darkness, they were beautiful. Now there is sunshine.

Gupta: Yes.

Hrdayananda: Prabhupada is the sun.

Prabhupada: (Hindi) [break] ...the anxiety of Prahlada Maharaja, "How these rascals, who have made a plan for happiness of a few men, gorgeous plan." And they're... For happiness of the government servant. That's all. You know in Delhi there is Planning Commission? What is that plan? That people may starve, and Indira Gandhi and company may flourish. That's all.

Gupta: I think, Maharaja, they are coming to the office at twelve and going back at one, doing nothing, and...

Prabhupada: But what they have got to do?

Gupta: They are not doing...

Prabhupada: Just like I have seen in London the Parliament. When they had some so-called empire... Now the Parliament is useless, useless. The Parliament members and the Lords, House of Lords, House of Commons, they are now useless. They have got some old books only. In Parliament. I have seen. Some old books. Old books means all the speeches are recorded in books. And who is going to read them? Almiras, so many... I have seen in Parliament. Hundreds and thousands of speeches recorded and bound up very nicely. Who is going to read them? Simply waste of time.

Gupta: They are increasing the load like this.

Prabhupada: Yes.

Gupta: Donkey's load. Go on increasing, increasing.

Prabhupada: Therefore this example is given: ass. For nothing, not for himself. He'll be given a little grass. The grass is available here. But still, he's engaged. Employment. Ass will reap, eat little grass. Grass is available everywhere. But still, he'll work for others, loading, overloading. This is ass. He has no sense, "So why I have taken so much overload? I can get grass anywhere. Let me remain free." But he has no such sense. Neither he will be allowed. (laughs) This is ass. Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna... [break] ...there are many babajis. They are collecting capatis and smoking bidi, and have one or two women. That's all. It is going on. So they should be drawn: "Come on! Chant Hare Krsna and take the plough." Not that you become Rupa Gosvami simply by smoking. They are thinking they have become Rupa Gosvami. Rupa Gosvami lived like that. So they think by changing the cloth, loincloth, they have become Rupa Gosvami. And whatever nonsense they like, they can do. [break] ...taken and all these babajis should be employed, "Chant Hare Krsna and draw plough." Then it will be nice.

Jayadvaita: In America too, the...

Prabhupada: Eh?

Jayadvaita: In America too, the big intellectuals and professors, they can also be... We can have ploughs for them.

Prabhupada: Yes, because they're wasting time. Better produce some food. At least, your food. You are living at the cost of others. What is the value of your philosophy? That... To... In the Bhagavad-gita: etaj jnanam, tad ajnanam yad anyatha. To search out the Absolute Truth, that is jnana, knowledge, philosophy. Anything else, that is ajnanam. [break] ...I think it is so that if you cannot use your plot of land, then it will go to the government. Is it not?

Gupta: Yes.

Prabhupada: So similarly, if the government cannot utilize, it comes to us. We shall work. Is it not good?

Gupta: Very good.

Prabhupada: There must be some law like that. The government has taken from the public because it is not being worked out. Now we shall work. Give us this land. (Hindi) "You have taken from the public. Why should you not give us?" So that there will be no question, even government does not, we shall go and occupy, occupy, and go on tilling. What the government will...? Public will support us.

Gupta: Again it is being distributed to their relations, those who are in the power, and then they do not work again.

Prabhupada: Again

Gupta: Then it remains...

Prabhupada: Then whatever field is not being worked, we occupy them, and begin to work. And invite all the unemployed, "Come and join us. We shall give you food, shelter, everything." [break] ...how Krsna is setting example. Krsna is saying that "I have already arranged the result of this fighting. Everyone will be killed." Nimitta-matram bhava savyasacin. But still, He is inducing Arjuna to work. Not that He's already (indistinct), "I am your friend, Krsna. Everything will be done." "It will be done, but you have to work."

Gupta: Maybe a friend or not.

Prabhupada: This is philosophy. Not that "Because I am friend, I will do, and you will sleep and get dysentery." No. You have to work. Everything is already arranged, but you must work. That is wanted. Otherwise, why Arjuna was induced to fight. Krsna has already arranged. And Arjuna also: "Yes." Karisye vacanam tava [Bg. 18.73]. "Whatever you say..." This is Krsna consciousness. [break] ...politician, Balavanta? He's not here. So let him preach that "We shall, if you take our Krsna consciousness movement, there will be no unemployment." He can at least give this manifesto to the..., "There will be no more unemployment." People will be very nice, very glad to hear. Now this machine, this machine nonsense means unemployment. One machine will work for hundred men. So hundred men becomes unemployed, and one technician, he gets all the salaries. To work on the computer, com...

Devotee: Computer, yes.

Prabhupada: Machine. And he's very expert. He'll take three thousand dollars. And others will be unemployed. This is going on. And they are thinking: "Advancement of civilization." Advancement of civilization means "Exploit others and you become happy." This is advancement of civilization. "Others may die for such, out of starvation, and one man takes all the money and spends it for wine and women and motor car." That's all. This is advancement of civilization. Sarve sukhino bhavantu. This is Vedic civilization. "Let everyone be happy." That is Vedic civilization. And the demonic civilization, they're: "Let everyone suffer; I become happy. That's all." And Vaisnava is thinking, "For my salvation it is already guaranteed." But he is thinking, "How these poor people will be saved?" Soce tato vimukha-cetasa maya-sukhaya bharam udvahato vimudhan [SB 7.9.43]. Prahlada Maharaja. This is Vaisnava's position. Para-duhkha-duhkhi. He's unhappy by seeing others unhappy. For himself, he has no unhappiness. Para-duhkha-duhkhi. Krpambudhir yas tam aham prapadye [Cc. Madhya 6.254]. This is Vaisnava philosophy. Vaisnava shall work hard, undergo all tribulation, for others. He has no problem. A Vaisnava has no problem. Because he has taken shelter of Krsna, he has no problem. Kaunteya pratijanihi na me bhaktah pranasyati [Bg. 9.31]. Krsna also gives guarantee, "Anyone who has taken shelter of My..., he is saved. I will give him protection." Krsna says, aham tvam moksayisyami sarva... Everything is there. For Vaisnava there is no suffering, personally. But he is very much anxious: "How these rascals will be happy?" That is his business. "These rascals are misled. They are going astray, unhappy. So how they should be happy?" So that is Vaisnava's business. So the Vaisnava, therefore, will have no politics. Politics means planning for one's own happiness. That is politics. So in our society there should be no diplomacy, no politics. Everyone should be eager how to do good to others. That is Vaisnava. If he's planning something, that "I shall be leader," "I shall be doing something," that is not Vaisnavism. That politics is not good.

Devotee: It seems that people are so attached to sense gratification, if we tell them we want to stop all these facilities for drinking, cinema, women, like that, they become angry.

Prabhupada: So that, that is natural. If you give good instruction to a rascal, he'll be angry. Murkhayopadeso hi prakopayati na samayati (?). Murkha, a rascal, if you give him good instruction... But give him practical. "Come here. Sit down. Take prasadam. Chant Hare Krsna. And help me by doing this." In this way you have to... Just like a child. Child does not want to go to school, but some, by... Find out some means so that he'll be induced. That is intelligence. He'll be angry, naturally. He's a rascal. He'll be angry. That is not unnatural. Murkhayopadeso hi prakopayati na samayati (?). Just like a snake. You feed the snake with milk. It will increase the poison. That's all. Practically attract. Practically attract. That is the Hare Krsna movement will practically attract the people. If the world affairs are adjusted according to our Krsna conscious plan, there will be no difficulty for all the nations, all the countries. They will be happy. So we have to educate people gradually. And by our example, living example, we'll have to attract. (pause)

Local people: (calling out in distance) Harilalji! Harilalji!

Prabhupada: Hare Krsna. Jaya. At least they are remembering Harilalji by seeing us. So much benefit was in that. Eh?

Gupta: When we pass, people say "Hare Krsna, Hare Rama."

Prabhupada: This is the test of Vaisnava. If one is actually Vaisnava, then by seeing him one will chant Hare Krsna. This has been created all over the world. Yes. Wherever we go, they chant Hare Krsna. Even at midnight in Athens. Yes. That we have experienced. This is the definition given by Caitanya Mahaprabhu.

Jayadvaita: Prabhupada, if Krsna had already done all the work at Kuruksetra, so why was He so eager to have Arjuna work?

Prabhupada: Huh?

Jayadvaita: Because He'd already done the work.

Prabhupada: Yes.

Jayadvaita: Why did He want Arjuna to work?

Prabhupada: Just to show example, that "Don't sit idly, rascal. Work." Krsna has already done, but you must work. This is the example.

Jayadvaita: People will argue that "Why should we work? If we can make an arrangement for being idle..."

Prabhupada: Eh?

Jayadvaita: People argue that "If we can make an arrangement to be idle, then it's nice. We've worked so hard. Now we can be idle. That's nice."

Prabhupada: Then, that, if you become idle, you'll be diseased. You'll have dysentery. That's all. That will not help you. You'll have to suffer. That, that, that stage has already come. Because so many rascals are idle, now there is so many things want. So you'll suffer. If you don't work, then you'll suffer. (end)

Bhakti Vidya Purna Swami, Srimad-Bhagavatam Canto 1, Chapter 19

Devotional service is very simple. It can be attained in a moment. It is a matter of changing perspective. We just have to change our idea that we are the controller and enjoyer to the idea that God is the controller and enjoyer. The whole thing is to convince our mind that devotional service is OK. We worry about losing our identity. If I give up my material identity, will I be maintained? Will things go OK?

We are materially attached because we are in illusion thinking that the material world is eternal and full of happiness. Thus the Bhagavatam is always reminding us that this world is temporary and full of misery. It is not required to tell people that material endeavor is useless since by knowing this world is temporary and miserable, people can figure it out.

Vedic principles involve applying transcendental ideas to the material world.

When devotees would criticize other devotees Srila Prabhupada would correct them by telling them to first take up the service of those they were criticizing, and then they could criticize.

An uttama-bhakti (first class devotee) can be in bhava or prema . From bhava one can fall down, as did King Bharata. So a first class devotee can fall down, contrary to what some people think.

Varnasrama is to insure the depth and quality of the relationships between people so they are satisfied physically, mentally, and emotionally, and can thus peacefully execute their spiritual duties. It is not an economic system. Economics is there so that the other can go on.

Fire analogy: Let say you have a big pile of wood. Some is dry. Some is wet. Some has mud on it. Some has lichens growing on it. And you have a little flame. So what do you focus on, the little flame or the big pile of wood with all its little defects? If you focus on the flame, in time the pile of wood will become a lump of ashes. A devotee focuses on the flame.

In varnasrama one is classified according to one's prominent interests, activities, and abilities, as persons may have characteristics of multiple varnas or asramas.

It is not a problem that people have anarthas (unwanted desires) in the heart. It is a problem when they do not identify them and try to purify or remove them.

Bhaktivinoda Thakura advised that periodically we should analyze our situation and try to increase the quality of our service. If we understand where we are actually at, then we can see how to progress.

Our strategy should be to adjust our situation so the anarthas do not bother the spark of devotion we are fanning. While doing this cultivation, we should focus on the spark of devotion not the anarthas.
