Significance of Ekadasi(today)

Kamika Ekadashi story.

Yudhishtira asked, "Govind! Vasudeva! My salutations to you. Which Ekadashi falls in the dark half of Shravan? Please describe it to me."

Lord Sri Krishna said, "O King! Listen, I shall now narrate to you the account that removes sins, which Brahmaji previously told Naradaji upon being asked by him."

Naradji asked, "O Lord! O Lotus seated! I wish to hear from you the name of the Ekadashi that falls in the dark half of Shravan. Who is the presiding deity of that Ekadashi, and what punyas (religious merits) does one gain from observing it. Please tell me all this."

Brahmaji said, "Narad, listen. With the desire for the good of all people, I am answering your question. The Ekadashi that falls in the dark half of Shravan is called Kamika. Merely by hearing about it one attains the fruit of having performed Vajapaye Yagna. On this day, one should worship the Lord by the names Hari, Visnu, Madhusudana, and Shridhar.

The fruits obtained that day by one worshipping Lord Sri Krishna cannot be obtained even by bathing in the Ganga, Kashi, Naaimisha, or Pushkara. By worshipping Lord Sri Krishna one obtains the fruits that are acquired by bathing in the Godavari when Jupiter is in Leo and in the astronomical yogas of vyatipat and dandyoga.

One who gives away the earth along with its oceans and forests in charity, and one who observes the vow of Kamika Ekadashi, are both said to obtain the same fruits.

One who observes Kamika Ekadashi also obtains the fruits obtained by one who gives away a milch cow, along with other things, in charity. The excellent man, by worshipping Lord Vishnu in Shravan, has worshipped the Gandharvas and all Devas including the serpents.

Therefore, sin-fearing men should make all efforts to worship Sri Hari on the day of Kamika Ekadashi. This vrata of Kamika Ekadashi is the best observance for the emancipation of those who are drowning in the ocean of samsara (the world) full of the mud of sins. The fruits obtained by one who observes Kamika Ekadashi are much greater than the fruits attained by those who are devoted to Knowledge of the Self.

One who observes Kamika Ekadashi and remains awake during the night never sees the fearful Yama and never faces calamity.

Lord Vishnu is not as pleased by being worshipped with red gems, pearls, lapis lazuri, corals, etc, as by being worshipped with Tulsi leaves. The life-long sins of one who has performed worship of Sri Keshav with Tulsi leaves are definitely destroyed.

'Salutations to Tulsi Devi, by whose darshan all sins are destroyed, by whose touch one's body is purified, by paying obeisance to which one is cured of all illnesses, by sprinkling water upon which even Yama is frightened, planting of which brings about the vicinity of Lord Krishna, and offering of which at the feet of the Lord, bestows one with the fruit of liberation.' (Padma Purana, Uttarakhanda: 56.22)

Even Chitragupta is unable to know the measure of punyas attained by one who performs deep-daan (offering of light) throughout the day and night on the day of Ekadashi. The dead ancestors of one, who keeps a lamp burning in front of Lord Sri Krishna on this day of Ekadashi, remain in heaven and are gratified with divine nectar. One who burns the lamp using ghee or sesame oil is worshipped with crores of lamps after his death, and goes to heaven."

Lord Sri Krishna said, "Yudhisthira, I have described the importance of Kamika Ekadashi before you. The observance of Kamika Ekadashi destroys all sins. Therefore, everyone should most definitely observe this vrata. The observance of this Ekadashi bestows heaven and great punyas. One who listens to the importance of this vrata with faith is freed from all sins and obtains the abode of Lord Vishnu. *

Eat with eyes??? How is that?

A Bhakti Yogi is directly In contact with the Supreme Lord right from the beginning of the process of devotional service. When he chants Hare Krishna mantra, Sri Radha Krsna dances in the tongue of the devotee and when he offers food, The Lord directly accepts and eats the food with His eyes.
If a tree which has been created by The Lord can eat with his legs(roots) why is it not possible for such a creator to eat with His eyes?

From Brahma samhita we learn that Angani yasya sakalendriya vritti manti- all senses can do the activities of all other senses. Means He can impregnate material nature with just His glance without physical contact unlike us where physical contact is necessary.

From Isopanishad we learn that He is far yet He is near. Even though He is situated far in His abode Goloka, He can perceive whats going on here in every atom with His inconceivable potency because He pervades the whole creation. There is not a place that He is not in.

A devotee is therefore easily progressing in spiritual life but for impersonalists who worship the void, making progress is difficult in spiritual life and may fall down easily from the process of self realization and God realization

The 5 levels of ego

Within the body there are five different departments of existence, known as anna-maya, prana-maya, mano-maya, vijnana-maya, and at last ananda-maya. These are enumerated in the Brahmananda-valli of the Taittiriya Upanishad. In the beginning of life, every living entity is food conscious. A child or an animal is satisfied only by getting nice food. This stage of consciousness, in which the goal is to eat sumptuously, is called anna-maya. Anna means 'food.' After this one lives in the consciousness of being alive. If one can continue his life without being attacked or destroyed, one thinks himself happy. This stage is called prana-maya, or consciousness of one's existence. After this stage, when one is situated on the mental platform, that consciousness is called mano-maya. The material civilization is primarily situated in these three stages -- anna-maya, prana-maya and mano-maya. The first concern of civilized persons is economic development, the next concern is defense against being annihilated, and the next consciousness is mental speculation, the philosophical approach to the values of life.

If by the evolutionary process of philosophical life one happens to reach to the platform of intellectual life and understands that he is not this material body, but is a spirit soul, one is situated in the vijnana-maya stage. Then by evolution of spiritual life he comes to understand the Supreme Lord, or the Supreme Soul. When one develops his relationship with Him and executes devotional service, that stage of life is called Krishna consciousness, the ananda-maya stage. Ananda-maya is the blissful life of knowledge and eternity. As long as the living entities are situated in the lower four stages of life -- anna-maya, prana-maya, mano-maya and vijnana-maya -- they are considered to be in the material condition of life, but as soon as one reaches the stage of ananda-maya he becomes a liberated soul.

Matter comes from spirit - life comes from life not from void

The Mahat Tattva -The Total cosmic material/matter comes from Maha Vishnu in the beginning of creation of this material cosmos. Just as a person comes in contact with a fragrance of the flower without even physical contact, the Supreme Lord impregnates the Mahat by His mere glance and Universes are created. Garbhodakasayi Vishnu enters as the soul of each material universe and maintains it. Ksirodakasayi Vishnu enters into each atom and pervades the Universe. He becomes the smallest in size that He enters even into the smallest individual soul to maintain them.

This is the origin of Universe according to the Vedic scriptures. Not big bang theory which speculates that the hot gases becoming cold after million yearand suddenly all wonderful universes and people are there. These are childish thoughts from so called scientists.

Intelligent people can ask a question like where did the hot gases initially come from? There is no starting point for these bluffers to begin with. We are fooled right from our school days in text books with these speculations.
