I am the fire of digestion in the bodies of all living entities BG#15.15

Bhagavad-gita As It Is | Part [BG.15.15]

TEXT 14:

aham vaisvanaro bhutva
praninam deham asritah
pranapana-samayuktah
pacamy annam catur-vidham

TRANSLATION:

I am the fire of digestion in the bodies of all living entities, and I join
with the air of life, outgoing and incoming, to digest the four kinds of
foodstuff.

PURPORT:

According to Ayur-vedic sastra, we understand that there is a fire in the
stomach which digests all food sent there. When the fire is not blazing
there is no hunger, and when the fire is in order we become hungry.
Sometimes when the fire is not going nicely, treatment is required. In any
case, this fire is representative of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
Vedic mantras (Brihad-aranyaka Upanishad 5.9.1) also confirm that the
Supreme Lord or Brahman is situated in the form of fire within the stomach
and is digesting all kinds of foodstuff (ayam agnir vaisvanaro yo 'yam antah
purushe yenedam annam pacyate). Therefore since He is helping the digestion
of all kinds of foodstuff, the living entity is not independent in the
eating process. Unless the Supreme Lord helps him in digesting, there is no
possibility of eating. He thus produces and digests foodstuff, and by His
grace we are enjoying life. In the Vedanta-sutra (1.2.27) this is also
confirmed. Sabdadibhyo 'ntah pratishthanac ca: the Lord is situated within
sound and within the body, within the air and even within the stomach as the
digestive force. There are four kinds of foodstuff—some are drunk, some are
chewed, some are licked up, and some are sucked—and He is the digestive
force for all of them.

So Krishna Consciousness is quite refreshing because here we see Krishna Himself is active. Krishna Himself has desires! He is not a God who is seated on a throne and sending blessings down to those who are doing good to others! No, He Himself is intriguing and entering into people's lives, even unasked for and just deciding to interfere…. and upsetting everything – like rollover their car. Or doing something else exciting. Just to bring them to the point where they start to think that:

'What am I doing here?'

So in this way one can see Krishna's hand in this world and that's not difficult to see!

The emblem of servitorship

Isvara Puri became the spiritual master of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. One could ask the question:

'Since the Supreme Lord is not exactly as limited as we are in His choice for a spiritual master, so why didn't Caitanya Mahaprabhu directly choose Madhavendra Puri?'

He could have made Madhavendra Puri appear a little later…. He could have just edited Isvara Puri out of the pastime and just been a direct disciple of Madhavendra Puri, no problem. But no He didn't become the disciple of the great famous ācārya…………………………….the interesting part is that the qualification of Isvara Puri was that (not that he was not the famous ācārya) he was the humble servant.

That was his outstanding quality, since we recall that during the last days of Madhavendra Puri he was bedridden and actually paralysed! Such a devotee had to go through that suffering, but yet he was given service by Isvara Puri who with such a dedicated manner had cleansed his body even from stools and other things. Disease can be rough. He was the emblem of servitorship.

It was his incredible service attitude that qualified him to become the spiritual master of the Supreme Lord………………………………. So He is highlighting service attitude as a very important qualification!
