(Kadamba Kanana Swami, Mayapur, November 2011) Lecture – Caitanya-caritamrta part 7

Devotee: In Fiji, when the temple opened in Sigatoka, just over the fence, maybe four or five metres away from a house that was owned by a big businessman. When the temple's kirtans got going, he'd get very disturbed. So he started a court case to have the temple closed down and move out of the residential area. So the battle at the court was going on for a few months. One day his Christian friend said:

"Let's go to a lecture by the Hare Krishnas. I want to find out what their philosophy is, because people are always telling me that the Hare Krishnas know the answers to everything. So let's go!"

So this businessman went with his friend, and Tamal Krishna Maharaja was lecturing. So he put up his hand and asked a question, and Tamal Krishna Maharaja said:

"Come and see me tomorrow at the temple."

So he came the next day, and was very patient and well behaved. He waited for a long time and finally got to see him, and after asking him the question, Tamal Krishna Maharaja said:

"Oh, I know who you are. You're our next door neighbour, who is making a court case against us."

He said:

"Yes, that's right"

So Tamal Krishna Maharaja said:

"I have a challenge for you. You take these beads and everyday chant sixteen rounds, for three months, and at the end of three months, if you are not feeling differently about the action, then we will move the temple, and it will be closed down. You have my word for it. Otherwise you have to withdraw the case."

So the businessman was thinking and said:

"Three months is not very long. I will make it six months."

So for six months he was chanting sixteen rounds. He was doing it secretly and would creep out of the house, jump over the fence and go to the maṅgala-ārati, and chant the sixteen rounds. His family didn't know anything about this. At the end of the six months they were all surprised that he withdrew the court case. And he became the vice temple president! He was called Nityananda Chandra Das and is now the temple president of Dallas!

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, Mayapur, November 2011) Lecture – Caitanya-caritamrta part 7

So if anyone has a story, then please tell us. I have one also. There was a hells angel, who was the king of hells angels. His name was Peter and he had a big motorbike. He wore a German army helmet and underneath it his face was covered with a black cloth with two holes for the eyes with red rings around it. The letter 'Jack', with 'Lord to spare' were on his back. He was a huge big guy, and somehow or other met the devotees (as they were travelling on sankirtan) and they gave him some cheese sabji. And he like the cheese sabji…boy did he like the cheese sabji.

After that they came past a few times in the area and each time they met him, he said:

"Cheese sabji!!"

So they had to cook cheese subhji for him. One day we heard a sound in Amsterdam, and it was a motorbike coming into the street. It was incredibly fast and terribly loud, which stopped in front of our door. When the door was opened, there was this hells angel in a German helmet, with everything on, including the black mask, and he said:

"Cheese sabji!!"

And we understood! We didn't know who he was, but we gave him cheese sabji. So from that time on he sort of became a devotee, but he stayed as a hells angel. So one time we were on harinama and he was sort of following behind. We were going across the street, and were just crossing the street, when there was a car there (the driver in that car was really aggressive) which was trying to drive into us! Out of nowhere, suddenly this hells angel flies into the sky and with his big metal boots he walked over there towards the car, by making noises….'crack…crack…. crack' and jumped up on the other side and gave that guy a look, who became totally quiet – that was devotional service!

It wasn't that long but later he died. But I will always remember Peter for having done that devotional service.

Do you want to go your Mother?

GLORIOUS KRISHNA

Do you want to go your Mother?

Posted: 25 Jan 2012 12:50 PM PST

Krsna's pastimes in Vraja are filled with loving sweetness evoked by the Vrajavasis. What sweet mood would cause the Supreme Personality of Godhead to utter the words, "Do you want to go to your mother?"
Srila Jiva Gosvami describes kumara Krsna's playing with Balarama and Their friends in the Vrindavana forest just after they have begun to care for the young calves.

Sri Jiva describes:
"After arranging that the calves eat the green grass that surrounded them, the boys playing until lunchtime. At that time Krsna and Balarama played Their flutes. They and Their friends hurled fruit and other projectiles at each other, kicked each other with angling-anklet-adorned feet, and enjoyed mock-fighting pastimes in imitation of bulls fighting amongst themselves.

They enjoyed water-pastimes, and, decorating themselves with forest-ornaments, They wandered about. The two brothers became filled with wonder upon seeing the varieties birds and animals within the forest. They playfully began imitating the sounds of the animals, but when They imitated the roar of some dangerous forest-beast, Their friends became, for a moment, frightened. They then enjoyed pastimes of wrestling. Grabbing each others' heels, they made a great commotion.

Krsna and Balarama continued to watch as the calves ate grass and drank water. Krsna approached one calf, massaged the calf's face and limbs, hugged the calf, and said in the calf's ear, "Do you want to go to your mother? I will take you to her."

Losing everything for Krishna is a Gain

Posted: 25 Jan 2012 12:40 PM PST

yasyaham anugrhnani harishye tad dhanam shanaih - Krishna says if I especially favour anybody then I take away everything from Him. That is Krsna's special favour, akincana vittaya.. when one becomes finished of all material opulence. To lose material opulence for Krishna's sake is not loss but it is a great gain. When one is akincana then Krishna becomes the only riches. This position, Krishna except yourself, I have no posession - this position is very nice, when we simply depend on Krishna - that is first class position of Krsna Consciousness. The result is that when one takes only Krishna as His posession, immediately he is posted on the transcendental position and at that time He becomes happy with Krishna. When we become dependant on Krishna, we become self-satisfied with Krishna.

Thoughts for the day!

Thinking about Thoughts
I have been reading Bhakti Tirtha Swami's Leadership book. Here are a
few interesting thoughts on thoughts: … People are responsible for the
energy they generate. Much of this energy takes the form of thoughts,
words and deeds. Although people easily perceive their words and
actions and frequently observe their impact, they may be tempted to
believe that their thoughts have no effect. However, they would be
mistaken. Although invisible to the naked eye, thoughts are things.
They are individual electrical entities that group themselves with
similar energy to form clusters. They are real; they are substantiev;
and they are a force that everyone can learn to balance and control…
Nothing exists unless it is sustained by thought. Therefore, the
easiest way to control and manipulate energies is by thought
processes. People can control their words adn actions simply by
changing theway they think… p48/50 Monitor your thoughts carefully. As
you think of someone lovingly, angrily or lustfully, note how that
person becomes unconsciously affected by your energies. p62 March 2,

Ornaments and Scars The behaviour of a disciple can be an ornament
for or a scar on the reputation of the spiritual master HH Radhanath
Swami

Milk and Lime water Reflections 5: Srila Bhaktisiddhanta's 64
principles for community, by Bhakti Tirtha Swami Principle 31 Although
the activities of a devotee and the misdemeanour of a pseudo-devotee
appear to be alike, there is a heaven and hell of difference – like
milk and lime water. …Although surrender never depends on work, we
want our internal life to correspond with our external life. A person
might try to solely think of Krsna without doing any service, but if
he or she has the ability, the person should act. Krsna, who resides
in the heart, knows the degree we are holding back. Krsna knows what
He has given us and knows what we have. He is watching to see what we
are going to do with what He has given

Four Principles of Community Building& The Four Principles of Balance

Four Principles of Community Building
1. Treat everyone you encounter as if the success or failure of your
spiritual life depends on the quality of your interactions with them.
2. Think of the personyou love the most and aspire to treat everyone
with that same quality of love.
3.View all conflicts as your own fault first.
4.Realize that people in your present environment might very well be
the people with whom you will live out your life and who are likely to
be with you at the time of death. - His Holiness Bhakti Tirtha Swami

The Four Principles of Balance
1. Place more emphasis on having loving Vaishnava relationships. See
all interactions as a cry for love or an extension of love.
2.Go the extra mile to care for and protect women and children. The
Bhagavatam mentions that when elders, brahmanas, cows, women, and
children are not protected, not only does the individual who does not
protect them suffer, but the entire community suffers.
3.Keep a healthy balance between spiritual and material life, but make
sure the second supports the first.
4.Remain loyal to Srila Prabhupada's movement (to God, Sri Krishna)
but do not be sectarian. We remain loyal to Srila Prabhupada's ISKCON
but to respect all Vaishnavas, all persons, all living entities. - His
Holiness Bhakti Tirtha Swami
